Wtf The nerve of some people!

Monday my neighbor came over and told me her electric had been shut off. The electric company had shut it off several times over the summer. She'd pay the minimum it took to get it turned back on and the reconnect fee. Now they won't accept anything but full payment. She said she owes $3,600! We asked if she couldn't apply for help, and she said she tried but made too much money. (She told us how much, more than I make) the house, her childhood home was inherited from her dad and she doesn't have a car payment so she should have enough to pay the bill over the year. I feel sorry for her but she's in a place she put herself.

Well to get to the point, she left the house but her drug dealing nephew is still there. I came home from work and there was two extension cords running to the outlet on the back of my house!

I unplugged them, went over to the house and told him I'd call the police if he did it again. I'm not heating their house for them! If they want electricity in the house, pay the fucking bill!

TL/DR version: my neighbor is stealing my electricity!

I would have called the police or sheriff and had him arrested for theft.

If drugs are involved guns might be around as well, be careful.

That was pretty nervy. I wonder if there is a switch so you can shut off the outside outlets without affecting any indoor use. Our front outlet has an indoor switch which we use to turn on and off our Christmas lights, but our back outside outlet is hard wired and can't be turned off.

My sister has a friend whose daughter and her boyfriend asked if they could park their camper in her driveway and come into the house to shower. She knew where this was leading and told them no. In our suburb you aren't allowed to park a camper in residential areas except for a brief time to service it before a trip or for the winter.

If my outside plug sockets were on a separate circuit, I'd turn them off at the distribution board to make absolutely sure.

Electricity arrears of $3,600 seems an awful lot. It would take me several years to run up a debt of that amount even if I never paid the electricity company a penny. Makes me wonder whether they might be using it to grow cannabis.

^ they were using electric space heaters for the last 2 years. Their furnace got red tagged by the gas company.

Re the outlets on my house: They put them in when I had the house resided and insulated. The one on the back of the house was tied into the outlet in the bedroom, the one on the front of the house tied into the living room. I did shut the air conditioning unit off so they couldn't tamper with that. I'm also going to put a lock on the main panel coming in off the pole.

Maybe it would be easier just to turn the outside circuits to 220v for the time being. You won't have to guard what he can't use. You can go back to using them later after you switch them back to 110V.

As long as he doesn't break into your house now.

You might want to file a complaint anyway, but not press charges, just so that there's something on the record.

If they were using electric heaters and their electricity is turned off, in this cold he will either soon move out, or he will try starting fires to keep warm. Hopefully he won't catch the house on fire.
