Do you use your dining room?

I'm old school in that I still use my dining room. Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Birthdays, special dinners and anytime else we want. And I like it to look just right. So far, in the past 15 months, I have switched the chandelier four times. Nothing looked quite right... until today. I found this gem at The Re Store, a charity thrift store that supports Habitat For Humanity. I just love it!! Custom made and led crystal. 24" across.

Do you still use your dining room? Wanna buy a chandelier? I have a few extra.

Re: Do you use your dining room?

We have used our dining room when we have had company maybe a couple times a year. We are having company less often now and may not use it for a year. Still the dining room table collects all sorts of things including our monthly calendar and is a good place to work on a picture puzzle. We have recently been getting bids on some electrical work and a new furnace and, at our invite, they have used our dining room table to sit at and do their estimates, those that did them right away and didn't email them to us later.

No separate dining room here, we usually eat in the kitchen, or have the plate on a tray, if watching TV.

Re: Do you use your dining room?

    I do.

I've entertained there a couple of times this year, but I also made a small sitting area just at the front of it. When I bought this house, I had a wall removed because the foyer was too dark and wasted.

The result is I have a much improved entrance, a view to the woods and pool from the point of entry at the front door, a multi-purpose dining room that serves excellently as a sitting room on most days, and is the center of my home.

We do have a separate dining room because it is an old farm house.....but mostly just eat at the table in the kitchen or in the living room if we are alone.

We've always had the dining room, with an extendable round table, velvet-like chairs and matching baroque furniture, but it hasn't been used much before the rearrangement. There was a hanging ball chandelier made of porcelain that we always risked to break during a pillow fight, which I replaced with a more compact glass ceiling light.

My house was built in the 1950s and has a kitchen / dinning room combo with a narrow counter top between them. It was a common design in the 50s. Kind of the start of open plan houses. It did have a plain light fixture over the table. I found some pendent lights at Lowes that had a 50s vibe to them. I clustered them at various hieghts for a retro look.

We have a table in the kitchen and are able to see the TV from that spot. Breakfast and diner are at the table. Lunch is in the LR.

Re: Do you use your dining room?

There was a dining room in the house I used to live in, and it was mostly used at lunchtime. Other meals were eaten on the lap in front of the tv. Today, in my flat, I have my breakfast and lunch at the table in the kitchen, and my evening meal on my lap in front of the tv.
Sometimes, when there were guests, the dining table would get used as a games table.

Always when we have guests, whether family or friends. Our daily meals are eaten in a four season porch that has glass on three sides. Most of our guests prefer there, too. Several nights a week we eat on the patio where we cook out. Doesn't anyone else eat outdoors?

I have a dining room, but only use it when I have guests. It's a bit of a waste of space really.

I believe the bumpkins call it a sunporch.

There's also sun lounge, sun parlour, sunroom, . . .

I've always referred to mine as the solarium, as the roof/ceiling is glass as well.

Re: Do you use your dining room?

BTW, calling it a four season room seems terribly redundant to me. That's the same as calling it a year-round room - like every other room in the house.

    Weird.

^ I've always heard 3 season room, where I live a full windowed room would be way too cold and hard to heat during the winter months.

We call it four season because it's heated and we use it year round unlike a traditional enclosed porch which is used only when weather permits. Ours is really not a porch but just a dining area off a family room. It overlooks our backyard.
