Why are sexually transmitted diseases on the rise in America?

According to the mag it is because it is easier to get casual sex using chat apps etc? Do you find it easy to hook up using social media? Are you worried and using rubber? I think gay guys are more permissive and indulgent so they just drop their pants when they get drunk

Lots of reasons, ignorance about STDs being a gay thing, small populations sharing dating pools, prep and the virtual disappearance of HIV has people feeling comfortable, funding for STD awareness and prevention programs stays getting slashed and some places are still teaching abstinence even though it's been a huge failure. Plenty of blame to go around. Schools. Church. Government. Peers.

To Die For Re: Why are sexually transmitted diseases on the rise in America?

"The very young do not listen.''

Nor do they seem to remember History. Remember the famous quote by George Santayana? "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

    Well, they're repeating it.

Anyone who was around 20 when AIDS first showed up is aware enough to know that the preponderance of quick, mindless, sex - via "dating apps" (sex apps, really) is a fertile ground for new STDS blossoming into existence. And HPV is growing by leaps and bounds. And some people - who weren't even around during that era - are cursed with a fatal lack of interest in understanding anything about the plagues of the (recent) past.

Hence, History is repeating itself. Welcome to the Future.

Re: Why are sexually transmitted diseases on the rise in America?

As with all sexual matters, culture is a big factor. The US has multiple cultures under one roof, and the differing treatment of sex and sexuality by those groups is indicated by the incidence of unplanned pregnancies and STDs. If the culture represses sexual conversation with minors, then higher disease and pregancies (teenage) are sure to follow.

The suppression of open sexuality conversation and education varies significantly by region, race, and religion. In the South and in Appalachia, a higher STD rate prevails, and teenage pregnancy is epidemic. This would predictably correspond with higher poverty rates, higher religious fundamentalism, and more social taboos with sex. When the children are presumed to be chaste and not allowed any sexual outlet in puberty, then they sneak around and are less likely to have safe sex practices. I'm sure a truthful survey would reveal that Fundamentalists incur more teenage pregnancies than the rest of society. It is certainly obvious from casual observation.

And subcultures who have less education, lower high school graduation, and more single parent households face the same issue. If talking about gay sexuality, and the subculture doesn't admit its own incidence, then gay STDs are statistically higher.

The CDC has data that shows Asians with lower incidence, half that of the Caucasian population, and Hispanics at twice the rate, and Blacks at six times the rate. The South is also a standout, which overlaps the Black and Undereducated and Poverty categories.

    https://www.cdc.gov/std/stats/default.htm

People can argue all day long about why the stats vary by region and race, but they do, and significantly. Obviously, race isn't a cause of the problem, but culture and attitudes toward parenting, sex, access to health care, and other factors are.

The same populations, Southern, Black, Religious, and Poverty, exist alongside members of the same groups who do not have the same incidence, so education, income, health care, and different religious tenets mean the same groups change as they change culture.

The alleged ignorance of the need for safe sex is often an excuse after the fact, with convenience and shame being larger factors in the decision not to have birth control and condoms. The conversations teen peers have about sex are all over the place, and the internet is covered with references to safe sex, so it isn't really so credible that a society with cell phones in every kids hands is suffering from much real ignorance about the risks of sex. Just because they aren't studying it in a classroom doesn't mean they never heard of STDs. It's interesting that this thread contains a list of responsible parties in society and that parents were not included. How laughable is that.

It's not a question of blame. It's a question of societal responsibility. There is plenty of open discussion online and in the media about sex and sexuality, including disease. If subcultures within the population pretend their kids are not sexually active when they are, then we all suffer from the consequences.

It would be pretty hard to be number one on a planet where the data is kept from public consumption.

Show a chart with STIs by incidence by country, including the entire globe. I defy you to find such data. It's only out there by grouping of US & Europe. The rest is deliberately obscured.

People have way too much free time and spare energy. Sex is free and, for many, there's nothing else to do.

A lot of casual time = a lot of casual sex.

I reason there's lots of casual sex that is protected. It's more to do with casual sex among ignorant and/or careless people or youth.

Do I really need to draw you a road map? For whatever odd reason I have faith that you can get their on your own, but in case you seriously need me to spell it out for you.... I did not mean a literal disappearance of the disease, that would be a stupid thing of me to say with some places in the US rivaling third-world countrys' HIV rates, what I meant by VIRTUAL disappearance is that people with HIV don't look like ghosts anymore, hell some of them look healthier than some negative people. You do not "see" the disease as you did in the early days when people were wasting away sometimes only a few years after diagnosis. And sadly I believe you truly didn't know I meant that.
