No, I love animals, but I see the limitations many people impose on themselves because they can't leave a pet to travel, or enjoy themselves for more than a couple of hours away. It's really increased lately. It's like friends have infants at homes.

I love birds, but I wouldn't want a parrot for the very reason that it's a lifetime commitment. I don't want a non-human affecting my freedom.

I've had cats and dogs, fish and birds, but I will be very deliberate before getting one again. And I think it's different for single people than families because it's a single point failure.

For those that wouldn't have it any other way than to have a pet, more power to them, but I would rather not be bound.

If you didn't get your pet the day you were born, or very shortly after, odds are it would out live you. Then what? Not likely anyone would want an elderly pet to care for on its way out.

Most people know better than to aquire a pet when they, themselves, get too old.

Perhaps like the pharaohs the animals can be buried alongside us when we die, kill them first of course.

Yeah, better is the dog who hasn't ever been, who ain't not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

But if they've been delivered into this bloodied vale, might as well make a spell of it, long as they're in good company.

No -- it would NOT be GREAT.

I feel like Alistair that a pet would confine me, but I can see a single person having a pet for company, because it can be lonely living as a single.

I would love our animals to live as long as we do, but not in discomfort and pain.

I can't imagine a day in my life without an animal companion.

The prospect of someday being in a care setting, without the constant presence of a cat is actually one of the few things that I find crushing. I will lose the will to live completely.

My amazing boy cat, Homer, lived to 19. His last year was a little tough. And he wanted to vote so badly; I reminded him how he hated to travel and also that he could always vote when it counted on "American Idol."

Would it help if all your JUB friends pitched in and had you put down at that point? We could buy you beneath the garden gnome in the flower bed.

I don't know. I'm ok with their lifespan.

Will you adopt more fur babies? What happens to them when they out live you?
