Interesting statistic on the turnover rate.

Clinton had a pretty nasty first term- with the healthcare reform failure and the "bimbo eruptions". And the impeachment. Perhaps history is repeating itself.

WSJ and CNBC had editorials and articles about the fact that there are still over hundreds of open positions in the Trump Adminstration and many of the positions have no nominee. There's different takes on this- the right-wing Press (WSJ) blames the Democrats for holding up nominations, the left-wing Press (HuffPo) points out that Trump is having trouble finding people who are interested in the jobs. There's validity to both statements.

CNBC's graph shows that the number of nominees is low. The number of failures is relatively high for the number of nominees:
After 500 days, hundreds of White House jobs remain unfilled by Trump administration [CNBC]

Check out the graph on the openings at the State Department. Trump fired all of the ambassadors and there's a lot of unfilled positions. We pretty much have a non-functioning State department.

Those replaced positions are likely to come back to haunt us for decades.

The courts are supposed to be impartial. Loading the Supreme Court with 'pawns' does not seem to make it impartial.

Also, you're probably viewing it from a gay, conservative thought train. God help us and our children if we trip and fall before one of his judicial appointments.

^ I'm also (among other mindsets) viewing it as an old guy who will, inevitably, get sick at some point.

Even if Obamacare continues to exist, an activist court with "their" Justices holding the balance, would say that it's entirely OK for insurance companies (or even Medicare) to rescind coverage as soon as somebody gets sick, or for pharmacists to refuse to prescribe lifesaving drugs BECAUSE RELIGIOUS OBJECTION (and not even having to prove they're religious), etc.

And other points of view as well...would they gladly let a state compile a database of suspected gay people, or those who hang out on liberal sites, etc.?

If some state happened to pass a law that black people and non-CITIZENS couldn't vote, would the current SCOTUS say "SURE, GO AHEAD"? I can easily imagine that. OK, maybe not, but if that same state kept the database of gay people and forbid LGBTQ people from voting, would they let THAT stand? Probably. Federal law does NOT expressly protect gay people against discrimination.

If some corporation set up some kind of processing facility that spewed horrific pollution and everybody within 20 miles downwind got terminal cancer or pre-cancerous lesions, and they tried to sue but the corporation was protected by arbitration in any lawsuits, SCOTUS would *surely* give the corporation unconditional rights.

I hope we'll even be able to RECOGNIZE "America" (and what the concept is supposed to mean) in the next 10-20 years.

He may not like his new digs in the Alexandria jail. He had some great creature comforts at the old jail in Virginia (Manafort moved to Alexandria jail [Politico]):

Prosecutors from special counsel Robert Mueller's office said in a court filing Wednesday that he had unusually favorable conditions at the Warsaw, Virginia jail, including a self-contained cell larger than what other inmates get, a private bathroom and shower, access to a personal phone and laptop computer, and the ability from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. to use a workspace to meet with his lawyers and prepare for his upcoming criminal trials.

Prosecutors also said Manafort was not required to wear the standard prison uniform at Northern Neck. However, in a booking photo released Thursday from Alexandria, he looks somewhat unshaven and appears to be wearing a standard-issue dark jumpsuit.
Not mentioned in the article was that Manafort also had two laptops in the Virginia jail. He was creating emails on one of the laptops which his lawyer would take outside of the prison and send the emails on behalf of Manafort. This did not go over very well with the judge since Manafort was sent to jail because he was emailing potential witnesses in his trial.

Jennifer Arangio, a top National Security Council official, is out. She reportedly clashed with other Trump administration officials, including Stephen Miller, over the White House’s hardline immigration policies and attitude towards refugees.
Bolton and Miller.... the obergruppenführers of the Trump regime.

You would have to have no soul at all to work with them.

edit: sorry. I lost the screen address. This was from VOX this morning.

Jennifer Arangio, National Security Council official, joins the very long list of White House departures

White House attorney Stefan Passantino is reportedly planning to leave the Trump administration in the coming weeks.

Passantino, the deputy White House counsel responsible for policing ethics for Trump officials, joined the administration in January 2017 after formerly serving as an attorney to former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.).

^ It's absolutely amazing how many of Trump's appointees are not only unqualified for their positions, but they're the complete inverse to them as well. One would think that someone appointed to a "communications post" would know how to (or how NOT to) communicate.

    A new hire.

Speaks to everything we have noted in this thread.

    Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

We have a new contender In the stiff competition to be the worst Trump appointee.

It’s Brian Benczkowski, confirmed last week to a pivotal position as assistant attorney general. He has almost no relevant experience for the job, unless you count passing the bar.

What he does have, as former staffer and close friend of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, is the president’s ear from his prior spot on his transition team as well as ties to Russia’s Alfa Bank at a time when Russia’s assumed Most Favored Nation status in the White House.

    Meanwhile, at the exit door...

Aide who attended conference with ties to white nationalists leaves White House [The Hill]

An aide to President Trump who attended a conference frequently attended by white nationalists has reportedly left the White House.

Darren Beattie, a speechwriter and policy aide for Trump, reportedly left the White House after CNN inquired about his speaking appearance at the 2016 H.L. Mencken Club Conference. He was listed as giving a speech at that year’s conference titled "The Intelligentsia and the Right."

I'm beginning to see a pattern here:

CNN suspends Paris Dennard pending investigation of misconduct allegations

CNN said Wednesday evening that Paris Dennard has been suspended from his commentary role, pending an examination of the allegations against him in a Wednesday Washington Post story.

The Post reported that Dennard was fired from a job at Arizona State University "for making sexually explicit comments and gestures toward women."

The Post obtained a copy of an ASU report that described the university's 2014 internal investigation into Dennard's conduct. According to the newspaper, the report "describes a series of inappropriate incidents often initiated by Dennard with the two women in 2013 and 2014." ...

Later, Dennard became a high-profile surrogate for the Trump campaign, appearing frequently on television and in other forums. He is well known to CNN viewers as a political commentator for the network, and for his staunch defenses of President Trump.

Re: Trump Staff Picks and Revolving Door of Depatures

And the Koch Brother's inside man is out via Tweet...

Donald McGahn’s departure: From the frying pan into the fire [WaPo]
White House Counsel Donald McGahn, who has led the Trump administration’s efforts to reshape the judiciary while confronting turmoil in the West Wing surrounding the ongoing special counsel probe, has decided to leave the White House, President Trump announced Wednesday.

“White House Counsel Don McGahn will be leaving his position in the fall, shortly after the confirmation (hopefully) of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “I have worked with Don for a long time and truly appreciate his service!”
Mitch McConnell said that McGahn is the most effective White House Counsel in McConnell's tenture. Hmmm:
Don McGahn Was the Most Productive Person in Trump's White House [The Atlantic]
Trump shows little direct interest in conservative jurisprudence, except as it affects him directly or is useful as a political tool. As a result, McGahn had broad leeway to handle the judgeships as he wanted, as Jason Zengerle recently reported in The New York Times Magazine:

As White House counsel, McGahn has exercised an unprecedented degree of control over judicial appointments. In previous White Houses, both Republican and Democrat, judicial nominations were typically crowdsourced among officials from different parts of the administration … Under Trump, the job belongs exclusively to the White House Counsel’s Office, with McGahn and his deputy, Robert Luther, and about 10 associate counsels identifying and then scrutinizing candidates. This process is unique in White House history.

McGahn worked hand in glove with the conservative Federalist Society, producing one of the Trump administration’s most successful initiatives, despite a few hiccups.
Rumor has it that there will be a mass exodus as others in the WH Counsel's office will be leaving now that McGahn is leaving.

I suspect that after the White House found out that he had been snuggling up to Mueller and.or he realized that he was also in legal jeopardy if he hung around for the end game inside the White House. there was no question but that he would have to leave.

Thirty hours of testimony with the Mueller team is a lot of time, isn't it. That Mueller had that many questions for someone inside the Trump orbit in itself is an interesting fact. Apparently someone has told Trump who John Dean was; McGahn already knew the Dean story and is probably out to avoid going to prison like Dean.

The sad thing is that McGahn loved to leak- especially when the story made him look good. Of course, at this rate there's going to be so few people working in the White House, there won't be anyone to leak about.

I didn't know the White House had any ethics lawyers.

After almost a year in the White House counsel's office tackling a raft of ethics and financial disclosure issues, James Schultz resigned last week and is returning to private practice at the Philadelphia-based law firm where he previously worked, Cozen O'Connor.

    His last day is Friday.

When there is no way for a LAWYER to spin ethics. He's out of billable hours.
In all honesty, this whole shitstorm is pretty ugly when actual ethics bails.
