Brad Cieslowski, a 29-year-old body builder, was kicked out of the Novi Lifetime Fitness Saturday for wearing a swimsuit referred to as 'inappropriate.'

He says that was sexist.

Cieslowski says he has worn the speedo at the gym before and no one ever said anything about it, but apparently several gym-goers complained to staff members Saturday night.

I have contradictory views on this and so I have to re examine how I REALLY feel.

I had a conversation recently with someone concerning beach attire and I remember when I was in my early 20s and I would go to lay out of the beach in Santa Cruz I would wince when the 50+ crowd wore thongs and had their saggy butts where I could see their butt cheeks and tits and I decided that when I was the "appropriate age" I would never subject anyone to that...and I haven't and I won't....

I guess for me it is more about principle...I will often fight for a principle because I believe in it even if it conflicts with my personal feelings...I do that ALOT... I think nudity is fine and would be quite liberal with my "vote" but a little more conservative with my own personal feelings...

So I agree it is sexist and I would defend him BUT I really don't want to see anyone's junk...male or female...at the gym.

I believe is appropriate attire for the environment. Little to no clothes for the beach, sure, go for it, no matter what the age. Skimpy speedos for the gym? Only at the pool. Proper attire in restaurants, schools, etc.

After watching the video, what he's wearing is pretty much completely indistinguishable from boxer briefs you could get out of the underwear section of a department store. Skimpy boxer briefs, at that. The ones I wear to bed every night are a lot less revealing.

So if the gym doesn't allow you to work out in underwear, there was no "sexism" here as he says.

Looks more like jersey sweat/gym shorts than a speedo. Like the kind women wear with words like "juicy" screen-printed on the ass. Which might be common for the gym, but certainly not being in water. If so, I can (and will) imagine what he looks like wet in them. Something made of a more water-resistant, conforming material might hide his junk a little more appropriately. Women might wear flattering attire at the gym/pool, but you wouldn't see them wearing a sweaty/wet t-shirt and no bra without people complaining.

I'm presuming it's referring to the two layers that nearly all swimsuits for either gender you can buy in the U.S. already have built in. It sounds like just a roundabout way of saying: you have to wear a swimsuit in the pool, you can't simply take your jeans off and go in in your underwear.

Yes, all the swimsuits and underwear briefs in my country are sold with that small second layer in the front to hide the penis outline and mop up any incidental leakage.

In any event after watching the video, and seeing the shorts he's in, it's not hard to imagine that after going in the pool, he's basically in see-through underwear. The whole speedo thing seems to have misled a lot of people, he wasn't thrown out for wearing a speedo but for swimming in shorts that look like offwhite underwear and can be seen right through when wet. The lifeguard told him "everyone can see it.."

If you can swim in see through underwear it might as well be a nude pool. I don't think the gym was being puritanical.

1 wear clothes that are appropriate.

2 other gym members complained, so your opinion of what's appropriate is in conflict with the other gym members....change. It's to keep a general consensus of members happy.

Most gyms are filled with guys looking for "meat" in any big city--some branches, neighborhoods more than others--plenty of shit goes on in Equinox--but this guy wouldn't be allowed to wear this at my gym--it looks like underwear. That being said...

Those damn things are ugly and itsy bitsy. I dont want to see anyone in those, man or woman. If I were the lifeguard, I would have let him wear the speedo but ask him to keep a towel wrapped around his waist while outside of the pool. Its not completely inappropriate for swimwear.

I haven't been in a bathing suit for a while but I usually like to have a towel wrapped around my waist even when wearing a one piece, but I can get shy...I suppose that he isn't the shy type. I assume that the man was at one point, walking around the pool area in the speedo. I can see how that could have been a little distracting, especially if kids were there.

Anyway, I can see "The Bulge" while he's sitting there interviewing, wearing those tight red pants, legs wide open. He likes to show it off, I see.

A proper tiny racing Speedo has the lining as well. I assume it's for modesty and to blur the outline of your knob since they are tighter than a pair of normal briefs and so support is inherent.

In the boxer-shorts type swimming trunks, the inner lining is usually for both support and modesty since it hangs directly around your bits and pieces. You frequently see these in association football (soccer) shorts as well, a kind of inner-hammock for your nuts, and it also helps when you get grabbed to not have a pop-out incident a la Sebastian Kehl as shown at the bottom of that link.
