Just BTW, when posting an image, it's better to use the little icon of a mountain at the end of the message tool bar. That both generally gives a larger image and allows the image to appear when quoting a message.

I illustrated the difference in my post right above this; when I quoted Mikey's post, it doesn't show the image, just says "attachment" with a number, so I found the original image and included it using the mountain icon for putting pics in messages.

Agriculture didn't have much impact until populations got large enough that forests were cleared to make crop- and pastureland. The Romans began another sort of deforestation, cutting forests around mines to fuel smelting. But the real observable change in atmospheric CO2 begins in the Age of Exploration, when European powers essentially deforested the continent in order to build wooden ships first to explore, then to colonize, then for navies to protect the colonies, then for shipping as the colonies prospered, followed by increased naval building. And there is evidence on which an argument can be made that the "Little Ice Age" might have been longer if not for that deforestation.

It's worth noting that while the extent of forests in Europe has increased substantially since nations stopped building wooden navies, it's still much less than half of what it was about the time Rome was founded, so that lack of trees that may have saved the planet from an ice age is continuing to help warm the planet.
