we gave the world John Candy........ and we mourned his passing
We don't get out of the cities enough. Only Australians and maybe Russians can experience the wild beauty of the earth on the scale that we can and as easily as we can. But most Canadians, especially in the last 20 years, stay in their cities all the time. As a kid you'd go to the lake or the mountains, but I see less of that in the next generation.
We are outward looking, open to new experiences and the best the world has to offer. It is probably fair to say half the country knows more about global events than their own back yard. It spares us from the ignorance and insularity that plagues some places, but often I think we take our own country too much for granted.
And we have annoying mosquitos. And high mobile data rates. And expensive (but good) air travel.
Anyone can be hypocritical ...I don't see how you can generalize to the whole country. Canadians (well at least from prairies) really complain more about Ottawa....American politics are seen as overly complicated so not really complained out. Crossing the border south is not a problem. They know we're just there to shop anyway. Sometimes you get more grief as a Canadian coming back oddly enough than you do from US side. But, if you are not Canadian and want to work in the country, there are fairly strict procedures to be followed. But...strictest on earth...not really. Australia is a bit stricter for example. So is the UK I believe.
we believe in peace keeping.............but we lost some of our kids.
Things I like about Canada (in keeping with this topic)
- there arent many natural disasters. Vancouver has never had a natural disaster. Ive said it before but Ive heard about 'the big one' (earthquake) since 1975 and it hasnt happened . . yet
- gun laws (when you take into account the population ratio, there has not been the school shootings or mass murders that America has had
- Im told we are friendly and the cities are clean so that is a bonus
- Vancouver has been ranked in top 2 for most liveable cities in the World. We may not have the great tourist attractions that other cities in the US has . . . so that would be a negative in my book for not really having an abundance of attractions to see. If I was American, I probably wouldnt visit Vancouver. There's not much to see here
- gay marriage
- I like how we are more quiet when it comes to 'country pride'. (Thats not the right word, you know what I mean). I think America tends to over do it when it comes to 'country pride' . You dont see Canadians chanting "Canada' very often patronage? whats the word?
- the country has produced many talented people
I dunno, I'm Canadian but I don't complain about American politics. I find American politics absolutely hysterical, and I thoroughly enjoy reading about how insane all of the talking heads are down there (ex: Republican? Democrat? When will Americans realise they're two sides of the same coin?)...it's a wonderful pastime of mine. Serious about it? Not at all.

Several of my favourite people live in Canada. One day I will trek across the globe to visit with them and get them drunk and have my wicked, sinful way with them.
"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "![]()

I didnt know that
Approx. 89% of Canada is not habitable, because the climate is too extreme.

Canada schooling could improve so M1thousand was taught this in school ;-)
HEY MAMBO!! MAMBO ITALIANO!!
I love my country dearly, but what's wrong with it? It is way too expensive to live here. In Toronto, a tear down house will cost you $600,000. Insurance to drive, easily $2000 to start, and anything here is roughly 25% more expensive than down in the states (hiya Buffalo! )
But I doubt I could ever leave. I visit America lots and love it too, but here is my home.
"Love me or hate me, both are in my favour."
I haven't been to Canada, other than a quick trip to send a package that needed to be across the border to get to the consignee, in too many years.
Enjoyed our trips to the Canadian side of the Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake and the Shaw Festival, Toronto and Eaton Centre (it's Closed?!) and the Metro Toronto Zoo. Saw Show Boat at the North York Performing Arts Centre back in the day, and Phantom of the Opera at the Pantages in Toronto.
Did Man and His World in '68 the year after Expo in Montre'al.
Don't like the St. Catherine's Bridge - I don't like heights, and that's a BIG one, lol.
Traffic between NF and TO can be a bear, too. And I remember my folks having to deal with the crazy Canucks in The Royal Mount city that many years ago.
But, I've got to say, I like Canada.
And I know, if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest . . .
I visited Canada some 20 years ago. In Quebec mainly. Was a lovely trip. The Canadians we met were all very friendly and courteous. We were astonished, when my mother forgot her purse by a telephone booth in Quebec City center, that 30 minutes later we could get it back at the same place without anything missing in it. Unthinkable in Paris...
Also, we all took 15lbs between all the fantastic meals we had![]()

Division champs great! Playoffs.. pathetic.
^Josh is brilliant.
You should see his show called Please Like Me.
Tiff is annoying.
minor celebrities walking down a red carpet
these idiots did the red carpet when Target showed up in Canada
Josh is brillant.
he's one of people I would like to meet.
I laughed my rather generous "arse" off while watching the video about Westboro.
Being an American who has followed their antics, including them coming to our area for a military funeral, only to be rebuffed by the Patriot Guard Motorcyclists who travel all around the country to form barriers to the incestuous pseudo church - most of them are related.
And I know, if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest . . .
After my country elected a dumbass conservative last night I've seen so many people worshipping Canada on my Facebook feed lol
Actually the greatest problem with Canada is that somehow we can't annex Maine, Vermont, New York and Massachusetts. (The US can keep New Hampshire). These states are almost Canadian in their approach to the world and the community.
We try - and it used to be so easy to pop across at Robert Moses Parkway - Queenston-Lewiston Bridge.
I had to get a passport just so I could pop over.
And I know, if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest . . .
Can we get Justin Trudeau?
And I know, if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest . . .
I love Harper. Point invalid.

Somebody has to?

I don't care if he's a creep. I don't want a high school drama teacher navigating our economy, famous for his father's name. Remember George W. Bush? We've seen this story play out.
We already have LGBT rights, and the public overwhelming supports them. If we lose them, we will get them back. Harper has made no effort to attack LGBT people. He's fine. I don't care.

Justin Bieber kind of cancels all the others out, Neil. Seriously, lol.
And I know, if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest . . .
A friend of mine went on a hunting trip. When crossing the border into Canada, the main thing his group was asked about was their weapons and ammunition.
When crossing back into The States, they were asked about fruits and vegetables.![]()

^ Priorities, eh?
God answers all prayers. Most of the time, though, the answer is 'No'.
What's wrong with Canada?
They end all sentences with "A"
(makes me end mine with "B"
They quit using the penny, now we are getting overwhelmed with them.
(at least they are copper, ours are coated zinc)
They commandeer our innocent fisher men and their boats (you call them boots)
1 - Fonzie says 'A'. We say 'eh?' There is a huge difference. (Americans can't seem to master it.)
2 - And we don't end EVERY sentence with it. Only when it's appropriate. 'Eh?' does, after all, have a meaning.
We quit making them. We haven't stopped using them.
No, we don't. Americans say we call them 'boots'. We call boots 'boots'.
God answers all prayers. Most of the time, though, the answer is 'No'.

And Joni Mitchell, Bryan Adams, Corey Hart, The Guess Who, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Alanis Morisette, Anne Murray, Neil Young, Sarah McLachlin, Barenaked Ladies, The Be Good Tanyas, Nickelback, Loverboy. Also Monte Hall. (I did that from memory... no googling!)
All that talent ALMOST cancels out Bieber.
Send us more.
Great Big Sea, too - but Justin needs a LOT of offsetting!
