Survivor: Blood vs. Water is the upcoming twenty-seventh season of the American CBS competitive reality television series Survivor, which will premiere on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. As with the previous two seasons, the season will be filmed in the Philippines, but this time at Palaui Island, Cagayan.[1] [4]. The tribe names are Galang and Tadhana, which mean respect and destiny in Filipino respectively.[5] A modified version of Redemption Island, a twist formerly seen in Survivor: Redemption Island and Survivor: South Pacific, was utilized after a three-season hiatus.[6] In this season, remaining contestants may choose to switch places with their partner if their partner is on Redemption Island.

Even the best cast couldn't save the clusterfuck of twists that have been announced this season. Jeff is saying that the game is "39 and a half days" because on "Night Zero" the pairs will camp out in the wild for... some reason? Two people are going to get sent to Redemption immediately at the start of the game because each duel will have three people. And then of course Redemption Island coming back, which I've complained about plenty, and the fact that the loved ones can just switch out with each other on Redemption Island, which is fucking RIDICULOUS. A month or two ago Probst said that there weren't going to be any major format changes this season and fans are already lighting his ass on fire on social media for flat-out lying.

Apparently in Tina's interview, though, she says her ideal final two would be her and Aras, right in front of her daughter.

I really don't mind new twists and turns in the game, but I'm dead tired of the island settings and even more tired of them constantly bringing back previous players. Are they telling us that there aren't any new and interesting people that can and want to play the game? To me it's just a disregard for what viewers want and a serious lack of creativity.

It's been 4 years, 8 seasons ago since we had just a plain old Survivor. No special islands, no returning players, no specially divided teams. It was the first Survivor at Samoa. And it was where Russell Hantz got his fame. But most important, this season had relatively big ratings. It shows that relying on nothing but new "interesting" (but not necessarily likeable) players is all the show needs.

And I watched their pre-show interview to see what he is like, but it was just Colton talking for four minutes and trying to blame his behavior during One World on missing his family and Caleb.

The minor positives I can squeeze out of this season so far:
-Gervase. We haven't seen a Borneo cast member on this show since 2004. It'll be interesting to see how he plays modern Survivor since he was considered a sexist yet somehow still charming and universally-liked victim of a Pagonging in the first season.
-Holy lol at not one, not two, not three but FOUR middle-aged women on this season. Laura Morett will surely *~bring it~* but I'm not sure about the other three.
-Even though I can't stand his fiance, I find the idea of Caleb to be interesting. He's basically a southern redneck but he's also gay. This happened once, barely, on Big Brother (Steven) but never on Survivor.
-If there's any justice at all, I'll finally get to see Hayden voted off a reality show.
-Candice's husband's bare chest.

Why can't we have a regular season with new faces?

Half of these people have played before....and I'm not interested in their spouses, kids, boyfriends,girlfriends tagging along for the ride.

Survivor has lost its magic. The bring returning players back has make it unbearable to watch.

Bumping this for the premiere on Wednesday because Probst has ranked the cast.

In the words of one Parvati Shallownage, it's the same sexist manbabble as always. Five men in his top five with one of the worst as his #1 pick and five women in his bottom five with him singling out Laura as a "Who?" casting choice in the same season that has Monica fucking Culpepper.

And god damn he is really cunty to a lot of these people. Aras is boring. The young girls can't win because they don't have "life experience" even though Kim Sprandlin fucking owned the game. Kat should be a gold-digging whore and marry Hayden after his inevitable win. And like, I hate Colton too but seriously, thinking that he faked his illness and that he quit the first time? The fucking doctor was out there and PULLED him, unlike what happened with Dana a season later (and Probst treated her with kid gloves about it).

Everytime Probst speaks, I'm ever more grateful that the Emmys stopped his Reality Host winning streak by simply not nominating him at all.

I was actually pretty excited for this season (I have watched every season since outback) but am completely turned off that they are re-introducing redemption island. It ruins the entire show for me. I don't really care that Colton is back, they will vote him out early I suspect and he won't last a second at RI plus his boyfriend/partner is hot

As Spiff said above I wish they would go back to how they did things pre season 21, Can't stand returning players unless they are top notch (HvV, FvF1), Samoa was an amazing season.

Redemption Island is just wrong. Jeff Probst has become annoying as hell. Nevertheless, I'll be here for the drama and hopefully some guycandy.

This is utterly ridiculous. Is the idea of two loved ones "competing" against each other for $1 million really considered as competition? "Oh honey, you beat me and brought $1 million home, I'm so mad at you." Really, instead of 20 competitors, it's really only 10. 10 teams of 2.

And we know this will only last two or three weeks, when they rearrange the teams and will no longer be B vs. W. Another argument for just having a regular Survivor with no stupid themes.

Rupert's decision was very dumb, but also very Rupert. Because Laura will probably be the first one voted out of the returning player tribe anyway and he should realize that there's a very good chance he could end up having to duel her at RI.

And okay... Caleb is kind of hot and seems well-adjusted unlike his flailing fiance. He's really not even that chubby either. John and Brad are hot too but Brad is annoying. Tina is still a dried up fake ass ho. Monica and Laura <3

This season has a surprisingly good amount of eye candy. I'm very glad that Aras has decided not to look like a mountain man anymore. Feels like there was a lot of subtext in that decision that was probably cut around. Not sure who to pull for on the new tribe quite yet, though I feel bad for Marissa. Whatever fate befell her it really wasn't her fault one way or another.

If you take up this opportunity to form Survivor's first epic MILF alliance between you, Monica, Laura and Laura and the four of you manage to dominate this game all the way to the final four, I MIGHT forgive you for your perennial Ambore Brkich-Mariano and Jerri Manthey jealousy. Because this is the first season outside of Nicaragua to have so many middle-aged women on the same tribe and if there's one demographic I love even more than "batshit insane hilarious female" it's the "middle-aged female who goes insane early on but eventually buckles down and owns the game strategically" demographic.

Rachel on this season though... I dunno. Who'd she fight with? Rachel vs. any of the over 40 women doesn't sound very fun. Candice isn't that dynamic. Kat's not fiery enough. Colton maybe?

OMG Okay that was better than I expected!

1. Colton hasn't changed at all, we saw that when he yelled at Kat during the challenge which was unwarranted considering he could barely paddle himself.

2. Can't wait to see Gervase's reaction next episode (although I feel bad for Marissa I feel like she will do well on RI and I hope to see more confessionals from her during the season, I like her voice)

3. Stupid Rupert, chuck your *clearly inexperienced* wife on the tribe of returning players, she is going to go so far.. idiot.

4. Laura from Somoa is actually pretty hot now in a weird fucked up way lol, excuse my weird mind

Yes, they captioned it when Colton said he would hit her with this paddle. She said, oh, no or something while looking like she was too busy trying to straighten the canoe than pay too much attention to him and he said oh yes I will.

Some nice guycandy. *Brad and John. Jeff Probst is still making me mute the sound during comps with his insidious yelling and pointing out the obvious. I'm pleasantly surprised that Colton's fiance Caleb isn't what he appeared in his cast photos. He's rather cool and collect. Doesn't look bad either.

Good episode. Just can't stand Redemption Island. I thought they would never bring this back after the reaction to the last time they did this. I never understood why everyone loves Rupert, he annoys me.

The episode wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. But I remembered why I hated redemption island, why dont they put the challenge at the end of the episode ? Because the person voted out at TC is not really out of the game and that's not big cliffhanger to end with this.

Anyway, The only real problem is that there's already wayyyy to much drama/emotional moments : Rupert (please go home); VYtas and his drug addiction, Cotlon and being gay, Laura's pregnant daughter and so on...
At first I saw that as editing (Vytas winning kinda feeling) but then It got really annoying & Culpepper is being ridiculously stupid this first episode.

That said the good things:
- Caleb is very good looking I must say
- gervase is already going bananas and even colton did better in the challenges. Cant wait to see him voted out
- Rooting for Laura M. ; Aras, Marissa (because I feel bad for her and I do think she could be a threat) ; Caleb


The concept of this season is very weird tho.
Because why would monica want the win more than her husband ?? I mean she could care less if she or he win at the end.
Like someone said, it's more a game with 10 contestants than 20.

Too much drama/too many emotional moments is not a bad thing for me. Most other seasons call that "character development" and it's something usually bereft from the Redemption Island seasons. But I'm getting ahead of myself because we only got a lot of those scenes due to the ninety minute premiere and next week it'll be back to wall-to-wall RI, challenges and a token one or two camera whores (BRAD CULPEPPER).

I get why the loved ones would want to beat each other. They're competitive people. Also, I doubt many of these people even live together. Ciera and Katie are adults, and Ciera is married with kids; they probably don't still live with their moms. Aras/Vytas and Gervase/Marissa probably live pretty separate lives. Tyson/Rachel and Kat/Hayden aren't married, and Colton/Caleb are only engaged. That leaves only Rupert/Laura, Brad/Monica and John/Candice as the married couples who share the same households and assets and shit, and even John and Candice were last minute alternates for RC and her dad.

I'm not a huge fan of Candice (I like her a little bit though which I think is more than most here - she's so average but somehow she causes drama everywhere she goes), but it would be fucking HILARIOUS if she and Marissa boot out Rupert first in the next episode's duel.
