I liked it. The chemistry between the actors was very good. I was pleasantly surprised to see Mike Vogel in this (sexy!).
Thankfully, this being on a cable channel, the rape\murder scene was allowed some decent production value.

Not sure about this. I missed it, so I don't know about the quality of the show. Just that I'm not sure I want to know more about Norman Bates. I think Robert Bloch did enough in Norman with his books. I just don't want to see happen to him what happened to Hannibal Lecter (Granted Robert Bloch is deceased and has no part in this new show) where Thomas Harris contradicted himself over the course of the later books and revealing too much about his character to the point that he became too sympathetic. Less is more.

News flash (but really, only if you've been living under a rock) nothing is completely original and hasn't been for decades - regardless of what country you hail from.

Any, I watched the first 30 minutes and found it was interesting. Everything seemed to flow and the actors were watchable. I didn't feel glued to my screen & I'll probably watch the rest of the pilot when it re-airs, but it was a decent enough show to watch. I always root for darker/suspenseful/horror themed shows to do well, so hopefully it'll gain an audience.

Yeah I was kinda surprised as well, Norman Bates with a smart phone...aahahahha!
But then it is a re-imagining of the whole franchise. Like how JJ Abrams rebooted Star Trek.

It would have been really cool to keep its proper time period as I love historical fiction and the stylistic design of the 1930s-1940s was awesome as far as cars, clothes and architecture go.

I like it. Good acting. Vera is good in everything. The guy playing Norman has a good read on the character. Interesting watching the development of Norman Bates.

Spooky, intriguing side story developing in second episode with his brother moving in and that book he found.

I honestly did not like the idea of a modern Norman Bates but I decided to give it a chance anyway and it turns out its quite good. Anyone else watching it?

I have to admit I did not like the idea of it happening in modern times and it still bothers me at times (like when you see him with a smart phone) but other than that I quite enjoy it.

Good actors, good chemistry, good storyline, two hot male actors...

Maybe a bit slow at times but we also have those moments with other "horror" shows like Dexter and AHS. And yes it does pick up with time.

I was so distracted when watching the pilot trying to figure out if Norma was played by Felicity Huffman or someone else. Turns out it it's not her.



P.s. I have a fantasy about Deputy Zack taking advantage of Dylan. Hot!

I had the same feeling you did when it started but I've been very impressed so far. The program is well done for what it is and the performances are excellent. Freddie Highmore is superb (and cute!) and I love Vera Famiga. She is brilliant as the mother. I just hope they can keep the visual quality and storylines going. Only 10 episodes were originally contracted but the ratings are taking off, the reviews are excellent and A&E contracted for a second season of 10 additional episodes for next year. I'd say it is a hit.

"plug" in this instance is not referring to hair transplants, it was my way of bumping the thread and to advertise how sexy those two dudes are. Like how an actor may "plug" (advertise, mention, etc.) an upcoming film during an interview.

I'm loving the cast on this show and Freddy Highmore is spot on with his portrayal of Norman. I can see this show continuing for several more seasons.

^loved the dream sequence between Norman and Bradley. I felt it was intentionally shot the way it was to make the audience first think for a split second that it was him and his mother in bed together before they finally show Bradley's face. Brilliant camera work and directing.

^There was a hint of a bromance just starting to develop between Dylan and Ethan. Then Ethan was killed. A shame really, good actor, his character had promise.

This show just keeps getting better with each episode. I just wish it was on HBO or Showtime so we'd have nudity.

Very well acted but of course we know where this all leads to. Norma just is too much for Norman, his brother is unsucessful in freeing Norman from his mom's overbearing influence, and his innate instability devolves into psychotic madness.It's sad, but we already see the troubling signs in Norman's activities...his sudden capacity for shocking violence but it's like he's compartmentalized.... he didn't realize what he did to his dad and isn't outright a sociopath as he does seem to feel emotion, very upset to learn what happened to his father though Norma made certain he didn't know it was himself who was responsible. Norman will be massively let down and crumble eventually so it's just not the kind of show I'd follow. Now if it were a re-imagining to paths Norman can take...either towards or away from certain horror, if their were some uncertainty to the final result, then I could watch but the show is intended as a explanatoery prequel of how Norman became "psycho",lol...so I'll pass.
