I know some people think they can change meanings.
Hipsters and the artistic think they're above the rules of normal men but what is this new fashion I see in CE&P which says—
Irish people are 'not white'
Italian people are 'not white'

You took this directly from a CE&P discussion and if you felt like discussing it in the thread it came up in, you should have posted there.

No, we totes do. It's just that it's considered good manners to carry one conversation in one topic, not post each new reply in a new thread ^_^

They're saying these Irish people aren't white
The intellectual elite bend any meaning to meet their intellectual conceit

Who's they? And where have "they" said that? Quotes, links and context or stfu and gtfo![]()

Roly, you are the intellectual elite.
.
No we aren't. We discussed the historical fact that Irish were classified as non-white officially and socially in American history, and you are presenting that point out of its context in direct response to that discussion, except you ran away to another forum to do it in a new thread and presented it in an intentionally context-omitted manner.

I don't know. What do eugenics say on the subject?

I suppose the intellectual elite would judge the southern Italians to be more non-white than the Northern Italians.
.
As someone who clearly doesn't belong to the intellectual elite, trying to make suppositions seems an exercise in futility, no?
I am LOVING how you're using the term "intellectual elite" as if it's an insult, and not an honor.
By the way, you are American, living in America. Just as an fyi![]()

Whatever gets your prole pride aroused, Pat ^_^ Hate on those librul elites, keep posting Republican speech, snide innuendos and cowardly attacks from the side. You do nothing but boost my ego![]()

I can't believe this. Irish people are not white and Italians are not white???Don't tell me Asians are not white either.

The discussion was about 1920's American social attitudes which were virulently anti-immigrant, in particular against, but not limited to, the Irish and Italians. Irish were commonly referred to as "white negroes" during this time period.
You taking that discussion and running up here and saying "down in CE&P THEY SAY IRISH AREN'T WHITE!" is a failure of reading comprehension on such a magnitude that it's very obvious you're misrepresenting the discussion on purpose for your usual 60 IQ trolling attempts.

You know Grimshaw.
Every time I read one of your threads and see how far stupid can go...I'm delighted to be part of the intellectual elite.
I'm not sure you know this, but at one time Irish Catholics, Ashkenazi Jews, Bulgarians, Sicilians and a host of other European and all non-aryan groups were actually not considered to be 'white' in North America. Or in Germany for some of them.
Surprised?
You shouldn't be.
If you even had half a clue or understood any history outside the shores of your own penal paradise, you'd understand that your skin colour isn't always what the Aryan Nation and their ancestors are judging 'whiteness' by.
I've got Irish heritage and I'm so white I glow in the bloody dark.
Whiteness was never defined by skin tone alone in the U.S. At a time when whiteness was a requirement for naturalization, Japanese of pale complexion challenged the courts for inclusion into whiteness and were rejected on the basis that they weren't part of the "caucasian race." So East Indians challenged the courts for inclusion into whiteness since they are anthropologically caucasian, and were rejected on the basis of "you are not white in the ordinary everyday understanding of the term."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitene...ial_definition
Whiteness required for all but former slaves to become naturalized citizensEven among Europeans, those not considered white at some time in American history include Southern Europeans (Spaniards, Greeks, Italians etc.), Irish Catholics, Eastern Europeans and Germans.[19][20] Early on in the United States, white generally referred to those of British Isles or northwestern European descent.[21]
U.S. rules that Asians cannot qualify for whiteness because they are not caucasian.
U.S. rules that East Indians while Caucasian are not "white in the ordinary sense" and their Aryan blood has been diluted through intermarriage.
Irish considered an inferior sub-white race because they were not Anglo Saxon and were of Celtic origin.
http://www.pitt.edu/~hirtle/uujec/white.htmlIrish and Africans Americans had lots in common and lots of contact during this period; they lived side by side and shared work spaces. In the early years of immigration the poor Irish and blacks were thrown together, very much part of the same class competing for the same jobs. In the census of 1850, the term mulatto appears for the first time due primarily to inter-marriage between Irish and African Americans. The Irish were often referred to as "Negroes turned inside out and Negroes as smoked Irish." A famous quip of the time attributed to a black man went something like this: "My master is a great tyrant, he treats me like a common Irishman." Free blacks and Irish were viewed by the Nativists as related, somehow similar, performing the same tasks in society. It was felt that if amalgamation between the races was to happen, it would happen between Irish and blacks.
Now, Pat, when you have the first clue what you're talking about, we'll see you in CE&P.

Recently I heard a 'wise guy' story that I had a party at my home for twenty-five men. It's an interesting story, but I don't know twenty-five men I'd want to invite to a party. ~Joan Crawford
In Canada, Irish people were considered "foreigners" no matter how long they'd lived here. Italians were almost another species. There was a sharp curve to climb for people who felt like assimilating. But that's a hundred years ago.

Somebody trollen.
Grimshaw. Face it.
Another Epic Fail thread.
Why are you so focussed on race anyway? At your age, I can't see as it should much matter any more.
I should have added that at times in the 20th century, it wasn't even a case of some European and western Asian peoples not considered 'white' enough.
They actually had 'scientists' who weren't even convinced they were human enough. With horrifying consequences.
Oh, he knows all about those. He's a fan.

You know you've hit rock bottom when yet another thread dealing with race delves into a debate on how white a white person should be to be considered white.
wtf.![]()
It is true however, that southern european / mediterranean people were not really considered white. They would have been set aside as "swarthy."
