While watching Downton Abbey I was interested to see how a reformed prostitute was treated in 1925. The Earl ordered his wife and children out of the house where said female was working as a cook.

Oh how different times are now. I doubt that such a scene would take place today. Why, you might be a prostitute, or a slut, or even a murderer. Or you might be friends with those who are. Or perhaps someone in your family is any or all of those things.

Now are you man enough to say if you wear a notorious mantle or do you intimately know anyone who does?

Well I smoke , like smoking , and do not intend to quit . I am also a rather strict vegetarian , have always had long hair , am a fairly exacting atheist and rationalist , politically rather extreme and eccentric left , and bisexual - so if I am mild as milk personally there would seem to be something to alienate and bring out rabid murderous opposition in virtually everyone .

Most of my gay friends and many of my straight friends know I was a prostitute and knew I was at the time. Also a few professors and one employer. I believe many of them thought and think it was cool, and some of the gay friends say I should have taken it a step further and done porn. As far as I know, my parents don't know, but other family members do. I'm no longer surprised when I discover that people with whom I've never discussed my professional sex adventures, casually mention my past, so I guess the word is out and has been for a while, but as far as I know, it's never been used against me. One can't google my name and read "...was a prostitute for ten years" or find a link to naked pictures. If that somehow happens, I figure BFD, I like the pictures. The bottom line is that I'm otherwise such a conventional, even conservative sort that I enjoy the slight notoriety and raciness, and if the knowledge is scandalous to some, all the better. Moreover, when the wisdom of those adventures is occasionally questioned, I counter with a narrative that traces my current success to that time. In any case, I imagine it's only rarely a topic of conversation these days.

Some of my gay university friends also hustled, as did a few of my friends today.

Of course, unlike the Downton character, I'm upper-middle class, educated and have never been without resources. I've always been in control, which makes all the difference.

but speak of this thread and the question, who gives a fuck. i know i don't. i could care less about a reputation. i don't know what everybody in my family or what they do. as long as nobody's doing anything that could get me into some drama, i'm good. so far so good. no need for unwarranted or unnecessary attention. bad enough, i'm airing my business out which i should be keeping to myself BUT i just can't handle suffering in silence.

There's more: my paternal grandfather kept a mistress for twenty-five years--house, income, the whole lot. My father tells me she was very nice, probably nicer than his own mother. I have an aunt who had a child out of wedlock when she was sixteen, the child was adopted and never seen again. This didn't keep the aunt from making the "best" marriage in the family, that is, to a very rich man. My mother was very angry when she heard that one of the children from that marriage told me about it, as it was supposed to remain the deepest of secrets. I have a friend who knew he was adopted, but didn't find out until he was in his late twenties that his mother was one of his father's cousins, and his father a "handsome drifter". And I heard, years afterwards, that a girl I briefly dated in high school--seemingly perfect, from a perfect family--was sexually abused by her father. The mother of another girl I briefly dated ran off with her psychiatrist. A grad school housemate, whom I introduced to escorting--very hot, one of the most seductive guys I've known--ended up the partner of one of his clients, a prominent Canadian politician. Not a friend, actually, but I'm acquainted with a woman, the divorced wife of rich bigwig, whom I've heard met him when she was a call girl, and that he left her for another call girl he had hired for a 3-way.

I'm notorious in my hometown, for reasons that I find incredibly uninteresting. It's a small town that's very gossipy so information quickly spreads and mutates. For example, I remember being rather shocked to find that I have a reputation as a heartbreaker.

Here, I have more control over the amount of information people have about me and because of this, I think, with the exception of close friends, people are much more curious about me than is warranted.

I have a bad name in my college because me and my family had a huge feud with some of the annoying self centered lecturers. But It's just one department anyway and the other department like the fashion, media, Interior or Illustration probably didn't know who I am anyway lol.

I don't have much drama with my college friends though. Just a few very homophobic people.

I'm usually the notorious one with family and friends. But who do they come running to when shit hits the fan, or when they have some issue (usually sex and/or relationship) that falls outside the norm. They don't know I am bi, but they know I've got a wide and vast amount of experience and education on stuff that doesn't fit in their little podunk worlds. They know I don't judge harshly (some stuff you really do need to set them straight on), and I don't go telling anyone else.

I have a notorious past that started when I was about 14. I used to fuck my female cousin a lot and that went on for at least three years. Later when I was in high school I used to have sex with two plumbers (never at the same time) who were in business together. I was about 16 or 17. One of the guys was a friend of my cousin's, who was also a plumber. The other plumber was middle aged with a wife and kids. My escapades with them lasted about a year.

Around that time I started missing a lot of school. Instead of going to class I would go to an adult movie house that was right near City Hall in Philadelphia. After I sucked off every guy in there I would ride the subway from one end of the line to the other. I used to play footsie with many guys who sat next to me and that sometimes led to sex with them. The subway also went through Temple University's campus and I met a lot of college guys that way.

When I was in my early twenties I had many drug addict friends, although I rarely did drugs. One of them used to suck off guys at a crack house. These guys were practically unconscious and I think that's what used to turn on my friend the most. He's probably a necrophiliac today.

After all that I became pretty vanilla although I still went to adult theaters for anonymous sex. Today I am happily partnered and may be the biggest prude in the Western Hemisphere. LOL.
