I'm reminded of a farming family that was featured maybe a couple of decades ago or so on a CBC TV program. The single mother was begged by her kids to go into some other sort of farming that didn't require killing the animals so she switched to raising Angora rabbits. They bred them in a variety of colors. They didn't shave the rabbits as that would reap the short coat hairs with the long and produce a wool that sheds a lot. Instead they harvested the wool by plucking them - which is pretty much just petting them. The Grandma spun the wool into yarn. They also knitted and sold finished items from the yarn. She said they're best selling item by far was men's angora underpants.
