today was the absurdity/criminality of what doctors/hospitals charge patients - especially those w/o insurance

how an operation at age 63 (no medicaid) might cost 25k vs. 66 year old guy $1,500

how medicaid is actually a great bargain/smart because it puts a marketplace/lower value on the cost of medical expenses that in the absence of can charge ANYTHING

that people unlike at the grocery story don't comparison shop - don't check bills

how a hospital can charge you crazy ass markups on things like aspirin

always a good segment - today really good

What we need is a compilation of what republicans and dems want. A market defined by qulity not quantity along with a system that requires people to plan for the known expenses like a check up or colds. Insurance should be like covering a fire at your house. You wouldn't use your home insurance to fix the front door lock if it was broken would you? How about the water heater failing? Same goes for health care.

Subject whether Obama's leadership is the root cause of all sequestration failure or if it is a equal failure on both parties.....

I agree there are massive missteps by Obama. But the other side isnt this above the board bunch of adults Scarborough is making them out to be.

My sense is that BOTH sides want the sequestration because it is much easier to put back than take away.... they will try to use their media machines to create the "message" to put it on the other guy. Whatever message comes out of this it will be the midterm rally cry. No idea who wins the message war yet. Sad part about their plan? They need to cut about two trillion more than what sequestration does to get us back on track.... the early cuts were easy. The new fiscal wins will only come through strategic planning.

Isn't it amazing that the President is saying that the small sequester cut will make such a huge impact on the economy -- would the same thing happen the other way around -- a small increase in spending cause could do so much good. We need to cut more.

Still snowing in KC -- not sure how much we have, but not the 12-18 inches they predicted. Staying home today, my satellite is out because this snow is sticky -- trees, shrubs are hanging low -- some people without electricity -- the radio says that roads are worse than last week because of the wet snow -- we had rain / freezing rain before the snow. JH's Kansas is experiencing outages because the lack of utilities being underground.

Special Note to Kansans: Do not touch downed power lines, keep your kids off the roads so the snow plows can go through, and make sure you ventilate if you have a generator running.

I'm surprised there's been no sequestration thread on JUB yet... I kinda agreed with their consensus this morning, both sides are being ridiculous.

the President obviously has no interest in taking a leadership role, but if I hear one more Cabinet Secretary take to the airwaves to give a doom and gloom scenario (without mentioning that the cuts wouldn't all be immediate and that they've got some discretion over how they're implemented), my eyes may roll full on back into my head.

on the Congressional side, the Senate hasn't passed a budget in god knows how long and the House seems pretty eager to let these cuts go into effect.

tbh, I'm not shedding too many tears, it may be the only way we'll see the DoD's budget cut (and nevermind the fact that we're no longer engaged in 2 wars)

My U-verse works great, the power is on and has been on in most areas but there are tree branch outages. On both sides of the border. I shoveled out our building of the apartment complex and every bit I lifted was up to my knee... perhaps I have less than twelves inches from the knee down.... god knows I dont have twelve from the waste down..

Is it possible Jack that there were different accumulations throughout the region? I wonder if that affects power outages... you know twice the heavy wet snow? Are you confusing Medicare and Medicaid?

Medicaid is a welfare program and Medicare is a part of Social Security. They are not the same program and often confused. Many people don't understand the difference yet have big mouths acting like they know what they are talking about (I am not talking about you in this case) ramble on as if they know what they are preaching as faith. They don't know shit.

Medicaid is available to the poor and lower income. Medicare is a program you do not get unless you , or a Parent, spouse paid enough credits into the system through pay roll tax wirthdraw. Medicaid is not age restrictive and Medicare is for those 65 or older, those who qualify for SSDI under 65, and minors of social security deceased parent.
In addition their are a number of hybrid programs for lower incomes & minors who also qualify for some Social security, but have to much income to qualify for Medicaid.
The income levels for full Medicaid for a single person is pathetic and in some states like Texas past a disgrace. It is operated by the state.

While you brought up the gov program the same could be said about private health insurance who works out very steep discounted rates with providers yet if you had to pay for it solo there would be no discount. A Doctor may accept $110.00 for a office consultation from United Health Care Insurance but if you didn't have that coverage (uninsured) he would charge you $240.00 for the exact same consultation.

It is every bit as equal in the private insurance sector from group policies as it is with Gov Medicare that the consumer hasn't a clue as to the cost of drugs, test, & routine cost. It can't be said that only the gov Medicare patient is ignorant.

The cost factor is incredible. Most/many hospitals will not allow patients to bring in their prescriptions citing legal liability and compliance issues. Forcing the patient to have no choice but to be charged outrageous rates for medications they take daily for their health conditions which are sitting back at their home.

How about dental care??? No one touches that cost either.

Here is a helpful hint if you have a hospital bill not covered by insurance. Offer them 25% of the charge and tell them you will pay them that day if they accept the payment. Nine times out of ten they will. I, on behalf of my firm, was paying a hospital bill for an employee. That's what I told them to tell the hospital, and the hospital accepted the payment.

Today at the start Rev Al was on the show and one of the host... not Joe or Mika was taking the helm today after he had been on a week long snow vacation with his young kids... he told that story and in the end someone said "Rev Al is here... do you have some skiing stories to share...."

Rev Al without missing a beat says "Uh Uh Uh NO, I don't have too many of those, I may have picketed a ski place once... it was in the white mountains..."

After I stopped laughing, I continued about my morning. That is why MJ is awesome. Often, I cannot stand Rev Al. Even when he has a point. Tonight in the course I was in almost every person described themselves as having conservative values but when the subject of Hillary Clinton as President was brought up not a single one was against the idea. I've never seen a group more angry, frustrated and hateful than republicans who label themselves as conservative and christian. We even see that in this forum. People who preach the word of god in one post then rip apart someone in another. I'm convinced the root cause of this hate is because there is a black man in the white house.
