I am not excited exactly. I'm curious to see this movie. The original was so perfect that I don't understand the need for a remake. The sequel was terrible. The only thing about Carrie 2 that I liked was the guy. I don't even remember his name anymore. He was the older brother on Home Improvement, at the time I was in love with him and JTT.

Fingers crossed that this remake will be at least half as good as the original and far better than thet sequel.

Zachary Ty Bryan. Of course! Back when I was in my teens... man, I loved Home Improvement for him and JTT...

But you're right, he was totally unlikeable in Carrie 2. Still, he was my favorite thing about that movie. I don't even remember the movie that much... other than the girl jumping off the school. That scene was insane.

So the remake was intended to be a tv series? That seems undoable. How do you make a series out of Carrie? A girl can only blow up so many times before it gets boring.

I wiki-ed The Rage: Carrie 2 and got caught up in all of the real life events that inspired some of the context of this sequel. Brutal stuff.

The Shining was also remade for tv, I think about 15 years ago. It aired as a miniseries. I didn't like it as much as Kubrich's film, but it was still worth seeing. It was actually more true to the book than Kubrich's version. King actually endorsed the tv version, and even had a cameo in it.

The Shining television remake was better than the original in some regards, but overall wasn't as good as the original. I thought Jack did a much better job in the original than the guy in the remake. But I thought the actress who played Wendy in the television version was SO MUCH better than the chick from the original. SO MUCH BETTER.

The hotel used in the remake was also the one that inspired King to write the shining in the first place. So that was really cool.

They elaborated the backstory, which I really enjoyed. You got to know the characters a lot better.

But the ending to the original movie was so good! Totally different than the remake and there really is no comparison. But I own both on DVD. Both are great.

The remake was more faithful to the book. Hedge Maze (original movie) vs topiary animals. Axe (original moviel) vs. Oversize croquet mallet. That, along with jack's quick descent to crazy town instead of the gradual slide was part of why Stephen King dislikes the original.

Both are good for their differences.

Female Directors To Watch Out For In 2013


At the film festivals so far this year we have seen plenty of excitement surrounding the work of female filmmakers.

And that excitement looks set to continue throughout the rest of 2013 as there are some fantastically talented women at the helm of some of the most anticipated films.

So we take a look at some of the female filmmakers that you should be keeping an eye out for this year.

- Kimberly Peirce

Carrie is one of the most anticipated horror movies of 2013 and marks the return to the director's chair for Kimberly Peirce.

Peirce grabbed everyone's attention with Boys Don't Cry but Carrie is her first film since Stop-Loss as well as being her first foray into the horror genre.

Carrie is a big screen adaptation of the Stephen King novel of the same name and will see Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore star.

There is already a lot of excitement surrounding this movie as the early trailers have promised much. This could well be the movie that puts Peirce back on the map.

The trailer looks horrible and terrible, nothing like the original.

I kind of knew this upcoming remake will be terrible. Remakes hardly surpass the original.

The original 1976 Carrie is a classic.

Chloe Moretz needs to take acting lessons from Sissy Spacek.

But I think I will still catch this in cinemas only because I do love horror movies, and there isn't much good movies coming out in October.

Also, there are two hot guys in this....Ansel Elgort and Alex Russell.

Chloe Grace Moretz determined to play Carrie

Chloe Grace Moretz has revealed she was determined to land the lead role in the 'Carrie' remake and couldn't imagine anyone else playing the role after she read the script.

Chloe Grace Moretz knew she had to star in 'Carrie'.

The actress takes on the iconic titular role in the upcoming remake of Brian De Palma's classic 1976 horror film, and says she couldn't imagine anyone else in the role after she read the script.

She explained: "I went in for a meeting with MGM. They were like, 'Oh we have a couple of projects we'd like you to think about', and I was like, 'Oh cool.' They said, 'One's Carrie', and I was like, 'Oh God, what does that entail? What type remake is it gonna be? Is it gonna be a real, beautiful movie or something slasher-y and tentpole-y?'

"They sent over the script and when I read the script, I just inhaled it. You know when you read a script within three hours, you know that it's a movie that you have to do. Immediately I read the character of Carrie and I couldn't imagine anyone else doing this role. I couldn't imagine going, 'Yeah, here's the script, you go take the role.' I felt the need to go and fight for this role to the death, and that's exactly what I did."

The 16-year-old star admits director Kim Pierce was initially unsure about casting her in the role, but this only fuelled her even more to land the part.

Moretz added to Collider.com: "As an actor you always want to be challenged and you always want to have someone tell you, you can't do something, because I always want to be like, 'I can do it and I'll show you I can and I'll do it better than anyone can.' "

'Carrie', which also stars Julianne Moore, is in cinemas later this year.

I don't think this new movie could top the original. I don't know why Hollywood insists on remaking movies that don't surpass the originals. Hollywood needs to come up with more original kinds of movies and not keep on remaking the same ones over and over.
