The young are often told to save love for later, that now is the time to play, as if you can't love and play with the one you love.
Youth is a time for love and learning how to love.
How old was the author when the poem was composed?
It’s cute, but sort of reads like typical dried up old lady hindsight.
I’m glad to know you’re ok.
I like the poem, too.
I suspect you are at an age where emotions keep you in a whirlwind. That’s ok, too. Go with it and learn. And definitely feel free to talk about it.
Sorry, I didn’t see your image. I block most of that stuff on this site.

That's a beautiful poem Jason, and as you know, I can relate.

"When I was one-and-twenty..."
by A. E. Housman (1859-1936)
When I was one-and-twenty
I heard a wise man say,
'Give crowns and pounds and guineas
But not your heart away;
Give pearls away and rubies
But keep your fancy free.'
But I was one-and-twenty,
No use to talk to me.
When I was one-and-twenty
I heard him say again,
'The heart out of the bosom
Was never given in vain;
'Tis paid with sighs a plenty
And sold for endless rue.'
And I am two-and-twenty,
And oh, 'tis true, 'tis true.

you know, they really beat the idea to young adults, teenagers and even kids that they have to experience love and sex so early. it's ridiculous. bad enough, the peer pressure from the peers will make anybody feel like shit if they're not dating by the 8th grade.terrible. at least, that was the case about 10 years ago back in high school. dunno if it's the same now for the younger crowd now. it does seem more acceptable to be a 20 year old virgin with no experience now compared to 10 years ago where someone was viewed as damaged goods. people would look down on you if you weren't fucking at a certain age.
one thing about the closet/you don't have to hurry/it will be bad tomorrow/so brother, don't you worry![]()
The poem comes from A Shropshire Lad which was published in 1896. Houseman, who was 37 at the time, was neither old nor a lady.

"What, still alive at twenty two,
a clean upstanding youth like you ?
A very good parody of Housman's verse. Look it up and see the following lines. By Hugh Kingsmill. Housman thought it was good !
Nothing makes you look younger than heaping helps of denial.

Just found this thread, Jason...
Youth and love can work...
My first love, Vincent, and I were only 16 when we fell in love.
We were together 7 years.
If it hadn't been for that fuckin' car crash, he would still be with me....
I loved him THAT much!
The Three Musketeers... Bashful, Chrisglass, and Ronboy!
^Ron we both had the same loss. Feeling your pain my friend.
