I was being asked Do you have more fun as a poster or replier?

JUB is a very large community, I don't know of stats about who is the majority, lurkers or contributors (in terms of posting), but as far as new threads are concerned it's usually the same (relatively) few guys who contribute to JUB's dynamism (thank you guys for that btw )

In my case, I have more fun as a replier, I lack the imagination to create new material or the things I have interest in are of no interest to my fellow JUBbers.

Mostly a replier, though i have made a few threads myself.
Though when i say myself, i've just lifted them off other sites.
Most of them just limp along and quietly die of lonliness.

I am slowly adjusting myself to a lurking life.

My hit thread was "Dedicate a song to someone" and a mod buried it in Fun & Games. Whoever that mod was, he/she/it(starwarrior was a mod then) knew very well that I will burn the moment I post in F&G. But whatever. According to my therapist, I am over it. GL created the same thread and it's still here at JUB. I don't know what that means but the tears of the discriminated will never stop! You hear me, moderators! I have seen Les Misérables! I know what to do now! Viva la revolution!

My threads tend to die a slow painfully neglected death so I am mostly a replier/lurker.

Oh well, it may just be age related.

Sometimes I will have multiple tabs open and be lurking in one while posting in another and replying in yet another.

I tend to make threads in CEP and I think the election debate thread was the bestest so far for number of replies. Although in CEP the idea is whatever the topic is and after about four pages typically the discussion is so far afield it doesn't matter.

I have tried a few HT posts but I just aint a trendy bitch.... ?!

The threads I truly admire are things like Centexfarmers Political cartoon thread that has been here for years and years... or Snapcats Funny Amateur pics thread.... those are amazing in the longevity....

Yeah I was going to say... one way to keep a thread going FOREVER seems to be to not make the novice mistake of posting your pics all at once, but wait and put up 1-3 every 15 or 20 replies. Then you get basically a whole added page of praise in between each set.

The convention to apply here is that a poster initiates conversations, ie is an OP

Mostly a replier but sometimes a poster. I like to make threads if I can find something "original" or something that isn't posted about much or a thread I haven't seen on here before.

Does it mean you want to make a post and try to think of something?
Or you think of something or wonder about something and start a thread?
What comes first?

If you REALLY want a long thread, here's what you do.

1. Start one in Hot Topics (not CO&R) entitled "Is he gay?" or "Mixed messages from friend" or "I'm going crazy!" The more low-key the better, however.

2. Post about some guy in the periphery of your life. Maybe a guy in one of your classes, or the guy who works at the grocery store you go to.

3. Give a couple of very vague indications that the guy might be gay AND interested. Keep them very subtle. He seems to dress nice. He doesn't seem to have a girlfriend. When a hot girl walked by, he didn't look twice. He seems to look at you a bit longer than he would seem to. He seems a bit nicer to you than one would assume. Only list two or three.

4. Suggest that you find him mildly intriguing, and wonder aloud if there's some way you can find out he's gay and/or interested, without actually telling HIM that you're gay and/or interested.

5. Post back in two or three days. Thank everybody (sweepingly) who gave any suggestions. Don't give any sign of following any of the suggestions. Instead, list one new sign that the guy might be gay or interested.

6. If everybody seems to think the guy is definitely gay or interested, post instead a counter-example to suggest the guy is straight and/or not interested to throw the thread into confusion.

7. Never post any interaction with the guy that isn't exceptionally desultory. But point out as many things in that conversation that might be consider proof positive or negative towards your hypothesis.

8. Repeat steps 5 thru 7 until your thread reaches the tenth page.

9. Collect your Official Gargoyle JUB Soap Opera Thread Award.

I'm a bit of a poster and a bit of a lurker, but I've chosen poster from the poll options because, lately, I guess I've been posting a bit more than I used to.

I've created threads, but the vast majority of them disappear into the land of obscurity (aka page 2 and beyond) relatively quickly.

I reply to threads, but not as much as I want sometimes. My laptop is fucked atm, so I only come on here on my phone or iPad and let me tell you....it's a major pain in the ass being on JUB using either of those.
Like a lot of my threads, the majority of my posts go on ignored, in fact there have been instances where I've noticed someone say pretty much exactly what I'd said prior to their post, and others engage them in discussion.

It doesn't bother me. I'll just mosey on by until I've "clicked" with more people or have found whatever clique it is I fit into best. When it comes to number of posts, I guess I'm still a bit of a newbie.

Finally, the lurking. As I said, it's a pain in the ass sometimes to reply to threads using my phone or iPad, but there aren't many threads/posts I don't read. I'm still trying to get to know everyone, so the more I read by them, the more I'll feel I "know" them, if that makes sense.

I think, somewhere inside, I try to be careful. I've been a member of numerous other forums before, and have actually been banned from 3 of them. It's not that I'm a nasty person. In fact, in all 3 cases, I was defending someone else whom I felt couldn't defend themselves and things got a bit carried away. But I'll do that for friends.

Maybe I should be worried about making friends here....?? Lol

I basically never enter a forum anymore presuming I know what will get you in trouble, almost regardless of the rules, because every forum enforces (or doesn't enforce) those rules differently. There are forums where people can troll all day long as long as they don't use profanity and it's fine. There's forums where you can conduct yourself totally civilly and get banned for 'trolling.'

You will never-EVER know if ANY thread you decide to create will be a HIT or a MISS...The traditional definition of a JUB-Hit thread is defined as a thread that takes on a life of its own...That means even if you never post in the thread again it still lives on......When you are the OP and you don't have to do anything but sit back and watch your thread Live on for pages and pages by the will of the people that automatically makes you a Jub Thread Master. If you can repeat it a few more times in the same Forum or anywhere on this site you become a Jub King..

Since I've been here I think the ONLY Juber in Hot Topics that averages the most hit threads about 90% of the time is IllgetBi....He can have "Boo" in his thread title and that Shit goes on for pages...

So popularity is a secret weapon if you got it...

Also creating 24 different Threads in 24hrs in one forum does not Crown anyone as a Great Thread Starter. If your 24 Threads ain't worth Shit they will die the same death every time, every day....Trust that....

I'd say this describes me quite accurately.

I read most of the threads that are posted in Hot Topics, but post in very few of them. I try to avoid repeating what has already been said by others, and I also tend only to speak when I feel I have something relevant to say. Sometimes I find myself wishing I were more outgoing, and that I'd get more involved in the forums as a whole, but overall I think I fit in quite nicely as an infrequent voice around here.

I read quite a lot of threads and in the past I would reply quite often - but I don't have as much time for JUB as I used to, so now I only reply if I feel an absolute burning NEED to post. If I have something that MUST be said.....

I was just having a discussion with a JUBBER earlier tonight about thread creation because of this topic. Mostly, I get ideas but just don't create them cause I worry if they're discussion worthy. But if people are saying the area is feeling a little stale and fights are erupting cause people are bored, I might start making more.
