Might as well start up this topic since it will happen when John Kerry is appointed Secretary of State.

The election will be sometime in June assuming he is appointed in January after the 180 days "campaign".

Rumor has it that Barney Frank will be the interim senator until the election.

The first Democrat to step up to the plate is Ed Mackey and he is not very well liked in the state [Harry Reid lite]. A lot of MA residents want a younger person to run because Warren is already in her 60s and may get 2 terms out of the ordeal. Course Brown will likely be the GOP nominee.

The breaking news is Scott Brown is NOT running for Senate and is probably eyeing the governorship in 2014 which would be an uphill battle.

This opens the race wide open for the GOP.

Oh lordy, the GOP is really grasping at straws. Ann Romney has hinted that she may consider running for senate. Since Tisei and Weld are out of the picture that really have nobody to field. Their best chance IMO is to have the GOP ballot stuff Lynch's name in the primary to make him beat out Markey.

Given MA's lax requirements for holding office, the basic requirements set by federal law are the only requirements to be in office here. Hell, Mittens had to fudge his tax returns to say his primary residence was in MA while he was governor. So basically any person could run for MA senate as long as they meet those requirements. Winning is a whole other factor.

Well to be fair, the Republicans are forced to put up a candidate regardless of how good they are. Nothing says "our party sucks" when you can't even field a candidate for a senate seat. Congress is a different issue when you have districts heavily gerrymandered.

As a Texan I'm already embarrassed that our new Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz is beginning to make headlines, both in the news and on the Daily Show.

The local major media markets; Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, and San Antonio Editorial Boards paid more attention to his stupid ass headline making comments than his positions, while ignoring any real opposition presented by an experienced legislator with a D associated with his name, and here we are in the U.S. Senate.

Even AFTER the editorial boards recognized their mistake; after the Texas GOP Primaries, and BEFORE the Texas State Wide Senatorial Election when they all endorsed Ted Cruz's challanger Democrat Paul Sadler, it was too late.
