"Love me or hate me, both are in my favour."
It saddened me to hear that on the news earlier.
I just wonder what the hospital staff said to her... The exclusivity of the hospital would have meant some disciplinary action would have been taken.
I even wonder if someone in the Royal family (Phillip) had a hand in her discipline. He's always running off at the mouth to people anyway.
"Love me or hate me, both are in my favour."
Actually there was going to be NO disciplinary action. The hospital stated that and neither Prince William or Kate had complained about it. The poor woman was sadly a victim of some very stupid people. Those radio dj's should remember that two children are going to be without their mother this Christmas. And a husband without his wife. Just sad.
Maybe some text or a link for us who don't have a clue?![]()

It's a suspected suicide, but it's not been confirmed that the hoax call is the sole reason behind it.

I'm on my phone but that's an article. Or just type in nurse suicide into google. There's loads of reports.
Horrified by this. Ughhh

OMG! This is so horrible and sad.
While I hate DJS and the stupid pranks they pull,I have to think in this case there was other stuff going on with this poor woman. She wasn't even the target in this case.
Having said that,I have no qualms about them being pulled off the air. It's high time these pranks are shown for what they are, just mean spirited actions designed to humilate others.
That a prank may have been the final push that saw a woman commit suicide is tragic. I don't believe for one minute there wasn't going to be any disciplinary action by the hospital. Did you see the CEO of the hospital in the media the day it was announced. He looked ropable and was mad as hell. Even if there was no disciplinary action to be taken what was said to her? I think DJ's and pranks are stupid and irresponsible but this poor lady must have been in a terribly fragile condition before the prank was done.
I'm not excusing the Australian radio station. It's an unfortunate reality here in Australia that we have a bunch of tools and idiots behind the microphones of most radio stations here. The pull for ratings and advertising has sent some of the most ridiculous people to the top of the game. There's almost zero quality journalism, just stunts and schtick for ratings.
It's interesting to read the twitter feed on this topic. The anger and hate being directed at the DJ's is huge. Calls for death and hanging amongst other things.
But the media as a whole needs to look at this and learn from the experience. They've raised an audience that expects shock tactics, ridiculousness and outright nastiness to keep them entertained. Turning on the radio DJ's is their way of attempting to keep their hands clean.
While the DJ's recorded the segment, it was the producers and the in house legal team who approved it to go to air. No one stopped to think beyond "can we get sued for this or is it going to be millions of dollars worth of free publicity." Had this not happened, those DJ's would have been racing their way to becoming the most famous DJ's in Australia. Now they're the most infamous.
I can't express how sad I feel when anyone feels the only option they have is to take their own life. My thoughts and prayers go to her children and husband.
I hope those in power here in Australian media entertainment keep this in mind the next time they attempt to do something stupid in the name of ratings, but I doubt it. In a few weeks when this becomes
"old news" people like the two DJ's and the rest of the shock jocks will go back to seeing what else they can do for publicity.
The station should loose their license. And of course there was going to be fallout. The privacy of the Royal family was inpeeched by an institution which had long, strong royal ties. What the CEO said in public means nothing.
"Love me or hate me, both are in my favour."
Absolutely deplorable...
What the CEO said in public has an impact on what is going through the woman's head when she made the decision. And if he was that angry publically - when most people are on their best behaviour - you have to wonder what was said behind closed doors.
Yes, the station should be held to be responsible, without the prank and without airing it this may never have happened. But no suicide is simple mikey, and no story is 1 sided.
In today's world this is yet another example of stupidity run rampant.

Agreed that what the CEO initially said had a huge impact, and aggreed that no suicide is simple (I've been exposed to too many). But when a simple error draws the ire of your royal family, your employer, and ridicule from all around the world, i could understand her actions. Hell many have killed themselves for much less.
"Love me or hate me, both are in my favour."
This poor lady must obviously have felt some sort of desperate emotion about this - I'm guessing it was an unneccessary level of shame she felt, even though by all accounts neither Kate nor the Palace had issued any complaint.
From her perspective, this nurse had a high-profile and respectable position in an exclusive private hospital, and then in an instant found herself at the centre of ridicule and derision with her voice broadcast to all across the world. And it was too much of a personal embarrassment for her to take.![]()
And ravenstar may have a very good point - I wonder if in the coming days, it will be revealed that the bigwigs in the hospital were in fact FURIOUS with her for (as THEY saw it) denegrating and ruining the prestige of THEIR hospital.
It reminds me a bit of that weapons expert David Kelly, who became embroiled in the centre of the controversy about Tony Blair's push for the Iraq War and the dossier about weapons of mass destruction, etc. At the height of the conflict in 2003 when his name was splashed across the papers and he was being used as a political scapegoat, he went out and killed himself. The personal affront to his expertise and honour was too great.
Absolutely agree that when something this stupid goes viral and becomes a world wide laugh it has to have an effect. But given the reference to the royal families ire, there was no complaint lodged by St James Palace and Prince Charles himself was seen to make a joke out of it at a meet and greet the other day when he asked a journalist "how do you know I'm not a DJ", hardly something that would have been said if the family were seriously pissed about it.
The prank was stupid, but honestly who would have sen this coming? If we all gave a little consideration to the "worse case scenario" in this situation no one would have thought the nurse who answered the call would possibly commit suicide.
Mostly what I heard in Australia after the story broke was that it was tacky and stupid on the radio stations behalf, but no one took it very seriously until this morning. Now there's calls for tighter regulation of the media industry and all sorts of things.
The prank call was pre-recorded before it was assessed by lawyers and broadcast on 2Day FM.

Recently I heard a 'wise guy' story that I had a party at my home for twenty-five men. It's an interesting story, but I don't know twenty-five men I'd want to invite to a party. ~Joan Crawford
I would hope that the prince appears at the nurse's funeral.
The problem is that usually you can't tell whether a person is dealing with mental problems or not.
I believe a healthy person, although embarrassed, would not have committed suicide over something like this. But for someone unstable it can be more than enough to push them over the edge.
We should always avoid putting people in embarrassing situations because there is no way to know how they will handle it.
It's strange that you recognize it as a mental illness and still in the same post refer to it as a selfish act.
How the hell can a disease be selfish?

Okay it goes without saying that there were other issues in this women's life that brought her to such a decision.
Second it was not the nurse who was pranked but the woman who answered the phone and transferred the call.
Judging by the CEO's anger on the news then how furious must he have been to his staff after knowledge of the prank went viral? Especially considering the close relationship to the Royal Family.
How much impact does transferring a call that became pranked worldwide BUT no one really knows who you are versus being berated in front of people you see everyday and having to show back up?
I am not claiming to know these things but it is clear more information needs to be brought forward.
It is also clear that these pranksters have a record of pranking touchy subjects and should be banned from on air performances of any sort versus a simple license revocation.
Actually in about 90% of suicide cases the victim tells someone before they act. That is why suicidal ideations on this forum are treated with such gravity. If someone even jokes about such a thing they are most likely telling the truth. That is what statistical evidence tells you.
And those rude diabetics! Hoggin' all the insulin.

"Love me or hate me, both are in my favour."
Just to play devils advocate here, it wasn't these DJ's who were involved in the lie detector stunt it was Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O who are both the highest paid DJ's in Australia and the worst offenders of this sort of stupid crap.
They were who I was thinking of when I wrote my original post about Australian Radio.
Frankly, every radio station in the world has idiots who prank call. This one sadly had some horrific consequences when the prank back fired. Shutting down radio stations is a bit extreme unless you plan to have every shock jock who thinks he's funny taken off air and their employers as well.
2 JayHawk you should count higher unfortunately. I've lost track of the amount of scandels the station has had to deal with. Sandilands and Jackie O are forever being hauled up in front of the licensing tribunal. Frankly I agree with you, it's not going to happen though. For all the PR disasters, they're the most recognised names - therefore the highest advertiser revenue generators - in Australian Radio.
Quite frankly I'd like to see a return to radio that had content rather than shock but given the way the media is in general I highly doubt it'll come to that.
well, that radio station is finished.
one thing about the closet/you don't have to hurry/it will be bad tomorrow/so brother, don't you worry![]()
Terrible, terrible business. Rest in peace.
And who da fuk listens to the radio anymore?
I do and I'm glad to say that most here in Toronto don't do stupid shit like that.
"Love me or hate me, both are in my favour."
They must have different radio rules in Australia, or since it was in a different country they thought the rules didn't matter.
Here in the US you will not hear a live prank call. You have to tell the other person they are on the air before you speak to them.
Any prank call you hear like on Howard Stern show are usually fake. Especially in the last few years. If they are real they have to be recorded off the air and permission to air has to be given.

A mental disease is just that... a disease.
As someone with a serious mental disorder I know from experience that you can reach a point where you are not in touch with reality and are not thinking rationally.
So it is annoying when people afterwards are like "ohhh how selfish of him to decide to do that". It's not that simple. If I lost someone to suicide I wouldn't grieve it any differently than loosing someone to cancer.
In his autumn, before the winter, comes man's last mad surge of youth
Of course. But they feel that way because of lack of understanding.
If you commit suicide while thinking irrationally because of a mental disorder, then it's not really any different from dying from any other disease.
Of course not all suicides go into this category. But I personally believe majority of them do. Mental disorders are more common than most realize, very often undiagnosed.
Plus mental disorders are often physical as well. If you are depressed because of genetics you could argue that it's a brain disease.
I have attempted suicide three times in my life. Twice I remember it as an outer body experience, kinda like I watched myself do it. The other time it was a complete blackout, I just woke up in the hospital and had no idea why I was there.
