always been wanting to move out of the state of new jersey for the longest. used to think about moving to upstate new york where i could live in one of those small towns some years ago but not anymore. upstate ny seems a bit boring. to tell you the truth, i don't even have a clue where i'd move to because everywhere in america is pretty much the same lingo except for the whole cultural part of it. not a fan of change. thought about moving down south but that's too much of a huge culture change from being in the nyc area. thought about the west coast too specifically california but didn't hear too many good things about over there for the most part and over there seems kind of scary. my aunt lived there 11 years ago and she died outthere. apparently, she wasn't feeling over there too much at all and i think the stress of living over there as well as other matters in her life killed her.

i like canada but i dunno about moving over there. thought about possibly even over to england since that's where most of my family is at but that's a huge cultural change too. might just stay put in jersey for the time being until i figure something out or get an opportunity to move elsewhere. thought about moving over to nyc but nyc has changed from what it used to be so that's a no.

I was thinking about moving Australia, but the more I researched about the place, the less I liked the country so in the end, the only other place I'd want to move to is the U.S. Culture-wise, it's very similar to my own country except that it's very warm, which I like. The state I want to move to is New York; I was thinking about California but then there's the likelihood of earthquakes there.

new york would seem like the ideal place for you. actually thought that you were living in new york until you told me that you didn't.

i live in new jersey and been wanting to move out of here since i started high school. jersey sucks. i like where i live though. maplewood isn't bad at all. googled franklin lakes and naw, i'll pass. not a fan of bergen county for the most part. one of the reasons why i'm not fond of over here is that everything is too damn distant and compared to new york, you have to do a lot of searching to find things over here. like for example, gay bars and etc. you have to do quite a bit of searching and driving if you live like where i live. it's annoying. i don't have a car either so that just makes matters worse.

if i had a car, man. you better believe i'd drive all over the place in jersey. things are horrible when you have to take the jersey transit bus. i'd go over to the reservation, go to work, drive to bridgewater, go to all the gay nightclubs, go all over the place.

I've been to most major cities in the US and quite a few international cities and I wouldn't leave San Diego for any of them. As far as eartquakes, well, about 6 yrs. ago the city applied to the federal gov. for a grant to do an earthquake study in San Diego. They were turned down flat and told Baltimore Md. has had more eartquakes than San Diego. There has never been a major earthquake in SD. I've been here 35 yrs., and as we do have the ocassional shake, there has never been anything that caused any damage. Of course, that doesn't mean we won't all end up in the Pacific some day and you could buy beachfront property in Yuma.

I have for years now, wanted to move to Rochester, NY. It's 6 hours in one direction to New York City, 3 hours in the other direction to Toronto, and a day trip away from nature views like Vermont and Connecticut,...both which would wonderful in the Fall....

i think that you would enjoy new jersey. the only thing about here is that you have folks moving fast paced in a slow environment. central jersey and south jersey are way better than north jersey though. it's densely populated up here compared to cnj and sonj.

I have dabbled and dreamed for years... and to be completely honest i will probably reside on the road travelling place to place. I am currently buying my mothers place in Ohio but do not wanna live there. Once she no longer needs it to live in I will sell it and buy a small place in Colorado or Wyoming or Montana or Idaho built into the Rockies so it is sustainable with full independence from the grid... not a psycho just dont wanna pay for it or worry... Solar everything along with some geothermals and proper construction to take advantage of all of that....... beyond that the place I will live will have thousand postcard backdrops but this image will remain the same:

If money is no object: Vancouver, Manhattan NYC (or northern NJ as long as I live very close to one train ride away from it), Berkeley, Seattle, Portland, Boston. Possible overseas destinations yet to be considered or explored.

Being careful with money (at least to a degree): Portland? (I think it straddles the line between the two.) Ann Arbor, Reno, Providence, Denver, Hamilton ONT. (I don't REALLY know much about cost of living in Providence, but I assume less than Boston.)

Thrift: Pittsburgh.

Ace-in-the-hole: Chicago, which would probably be in the money-is-no-object group. (Seems I recently heard something that would absolutely make me NOT want to go there, but I don't remember what it was. It didn't have anything to do with crime, though.) Also, not ruling out Cincinnati.

I believe that Pittsburgh, though possibly maybe Denver as well, are the only places I'd consider, which are NOT considered to be expensive.

Many places that would also be on the list of "possibles" except for climate (winter and/or summer and/or too desert'y): Minneapolis, Madison WI, various Los Angeles/Orange County CA, Tucson, Albuquerque, Austin, Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, northern Virginia suburbs, Nashville, Dallas, Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto. (Hamilton is just a TINY bit milder and on "my" side of the winter climate line that I won't violate.)

I haven't really explored New Jersey pricing enough - like perhaps there ARE "safe" places to live which aren't nosebleed-expensive and "one ride away" from Manhattan. Perhaps someplace like Dover or Morristown? I have friends in Metuchen but I don't remember what they told me about the ease of getting into The City (I think there were some issues).

Your town seems to be the perfect place for a mountain castle. I think that generally speaking, Canada doesn't have enough mountain castles; we're lagging Europe in that regard.

I grew up on Cape Cod. Now I live in Connecticut. Not the nice part of Connecticut, the regular part. If you're young, gay, and cute, go to Provincetown on the end of the Cape. If you smoke pot, you must live in Boulder, CO, for at least a little while. (BTDT) I spent a few years in the country, upstate VT, not upstate NY, and it does get a bit annoying hanging out with the same twelve people the whole time. So, be wary of Lewiston. Nice as it is, you'll be the "new guy" until you're fifty.

Me, I want to move to Quito, Ecuador. I hear there's a huge ex-pat community, and you can get a nice apartment with maid service for around a grand a month. I'm just assuming that there are gay people in Ecuador, too.

I do like it here in Saskatchewan, though the winters do tend to be a little less my style from time to time...And on occasion, the summers do tend to get a little more warm than I prefer as well.

I've always liked tell of English weather; not too warm, not too cold, and more on the foggy/raining side, since I love a good rain storm. So, somewhere in the UK would be a good fit for me.

Barring that, and staying in Canada, a move out to the West Coast would also be acceptable but the summer heat could still be a problem...And somewhere in the Maritimes could work, but the winters there can be just as bad or worse than here so I hear.

Either way, for now, I stay right where I am.

I live in New Jersey as well, I want to get out of this state eventually i been researching Florida there's a few cities i want to check out there. Where i live at in Jersey its getting ghetto out here and the cost of living is getting crazy whos going to pay 1k for an outdated 1br apartment and the taxes here are so high. And i can't do the small town thing anymore i feel like a retired person, I'm ready for a big city with a gay population.

I'm not sure about this but have heard it many times throughout my travels. If I had to pick somewhere else it would be Barcelona. I'll probably spend time there in Feb. and Mar.
