Please read this article about a lesbian gay advocate (very oxymoronish). This lady is absolutely disgusting. Reprehensible. She worked on legislation to banish gay marriage when she was married to a guy in her 20's. Now, at the tender age of 53, she's working to undo her own work.

I think the one thing that makes me distrustful about her and people like Mehlman is that they still hang out in the same tent they helped erect in the past.

I see some of this stuff as now being an opportunistic attempt to figure out how to peel away support for the Democrats by making soothing noises about how the Republicans really do like homos.

Maybe you're not grasping the fact that since we aren't gay Republicans desperately trying to cobble together some kind of intellectual honesty and integrity in being gay Republicans, we don't have a vested interest here in going out of our way to say these people who sought to codify discrimination against gay people into law having a late-life turn around are great people doing something awesome.

Like I said, someone who didn't live their life into the 50's doing this and suddenly turn around are far more commendable than these people are. There is nothing to praise here.

Great good for them they managed to reach the point in their personal development in their 50's+ that many of us reached by 18, only we got there without actively participating in persecution of gay people.

By your logic someone who lynched black people and later realized it was wrong is equal or better morally to someone who had worked for black civil rights all along.
