The people have spoken. Voters have passed Initiative 502 and beginning December 6th, it is not a violation of state law for adults over 21 years old to possess up to an ounce of marijuana (or 16 ounces of solid marijuana-infused product, like cookies, or 72 ounces of infused liquid, like oil) for personal use. The initiative establishes a one-year period for the state to develop rules and a licensing system for the marijuana production and sale.

Now if they'd just promise to arrest any federal agents who come and interfere....

Seriously, this is a matter of states' rights, and the people's. It would actually need to be the sheriff's office arresting federal busybodies, because the local sheriff represents both the people and the state government.

Oh -- no bail allowed until the constitutional question is settled.

does sound as thought the Washington State police have just raised the amount for minimal possession . Given that Washington State police have a reputation for being relatively excessive ( their traffic police have guns ) would be interesting to see if this amount were greater than BC or the neighbouring states . Not "legal" .

That wouldn't work because of exactly what is noted in the article concerning federal property.

A large amount of these sticky questions will be resolved once a few more states pass the same legality of MJ laws and then the Supreme Court hears the cases the will inevitably come before them and rule in favor of states rights as they seem to more often than not.....

The police here are just following orders -- the voters changed the rules on them.

And their traffic police have guns for good reason: many traffic law violators turn out to be druggies who are more than happy to attack or shoot a cop, when under the influence (and sometimes when not).
