A Mesa, Arizona, woman was arrested over the weekend after allegedly chasing her husband around a Gilbert parking lot in an SUV, eventually pinning underneath the vehicle and a curb.
According to police, the woman, Holly Solomon, 28, believed her family’s hardships were going to increase as a result of President Obama’s re-election and she was angry with her husband for not voting.
Her husband, Daniel Solomon, is currently in the hospital in critical condition, but told police officers that his wife “just hated Obama” and was enraged at his re-election.

She ran her husband down for not voting against Obama...crazy?

Henry Hamilton was found dead on Nov. 8, with his home littered with empty pill bottles. According to palmbeachpost.com a suicide note was found that said:

"Do not revive! F*ck Obama!"

Hamilton lived with his partner Michael Cossey, who was the first to find the body after returning home from an evening out with friends.

Cossey says Hamilton told him "If Barack gets re-elected, I'm not going to be around."

What in the world are these people thinking? This is what extremism in politics and political propaganda get you.

We don't need a giant industry, we just need a modest support system. A large number of mentally ill in L.A. County Jail, Crook County Jail, and Riker's Island Jail -- the largest de facto treatment centers for the mentally ill (and drug addiction!) in the country -- would not need the "care" they're given if we just had a modest system that would get them through their initial problems and be there as a resource for relapse.

What we have now is a way of subsidizing the jail industry. We could free up half the space in the country's jails and save many millions of dollars just by providing that modest support.

And BTW, the pharmaceutical companies would fight such reform -- they sell more psych pills this way.

Have you ever spent anytime in correctional custody units anywhere in the nation? I have had the pleasure for a variety of reasons associated with my work. So tell me if a 16yo kid is in a stall separated from the other inmates because he likes to pace aggressively, spit and bang his head against the floor is that a failure to find another layer or being Nuckin Futs?

SPend a weekend watching lockup on MSNBC and tell me that these folks just didnt learn a successful layer .... then head down to any inner city area at around midnight and tell me how that layer stuff is working out for you.... then imagine you live in that environment 24/7.

Mental health care for all would save money on the whole. In jails, they're just given drugs, and then other drugs to keep them docile. In actual care, they'd be kept to a minimum of drugs with a goal of getting them free completely. And in jails, they just learn new ways to act out, thus guaranteeing more crime.

Well Texas finally realized that being at the forefront of incarceration was going to bankrupt the state... so they changed to rehab and training instead of incarceration for many crimes....

Not just their lobby -- the "lock them up" lobby in government is hefty as well. Sheriffs and police chiefs build their little empires and try to expand them at every chance. Prosecutors assist them because it makes them look good to lock criminals up.

Three different mental health professionals have admitted to me that half of what is done "for" the mentally ill in incarceration pushes people toward suicide and exacerbates other problems as well. There are words everyone doesn't like. I used faggot in my post because I thought it was appropriate given the fact that somebody would off themselves (especially a gay man) just because Obama was re-elected. I wanted it's usage to invoke some emotion or feeling from the reader about just how fucking stupid this person's suicide was, and just how truly stupid the person was for doing it.

He is a good man, but he is a product of his environment. Up in New England, there is a weird thing developing now, where gay people are accepted openly so long as they don't always " act so gay". As we, the gay community assimilate into the general society in new england, there is that weird thing....

It's like the way dark blacks are treated by lighter skinned black.

I think the gay movement is heading into the "it's ok to be gay as long as you can pass as straight" in general society, not by really hiding your homosexuality, but by behaving in ways that do not make it obvious on a moment to moment basis. I THINK people are at the point, the older conservative manual labor types, that they want to be courteous, but are uncomfortable with reminders of it while interacting.

I think that's one reason that there is so much teeth gnashing going on at gay pride parades about hiding the flamers and the dragqueens.

The Texas prison phenomenon is amazing. It's been advocated for years, and Texas is about the last place I thought it would take root. But it's been the norm in much of the western world for a long time, so it was known it would work.


On the other strain here, I have at least once heard the word "queer" used in negative fashion, but the response was several gays together chanting, "We're queer, we're here -- live with it, dear". I loved the last line, which made the guy trying to insult just one of them furious.

I heard it another time as an insult and the response was, "Everyone's queer, some are gay". I'm not sure what that was supposed to mean, but then it confused the other guy, so I guess it landed well.

Note that in neither case did the gays object to the word or find it insulting.

Just because maybe you have more qualities associated with straight men than the gay stereotype (so do I, and I imagine so does Giancarlo), should not be reason to label yourself with a derogatory auto-homophobic label. Words matter. The images those words create, the stereotypes they enforce, matter. No self-respecting proud gay man is "straight-acting", even if he's the manliest man that ever manned.
