By the way, as a "did you know?" point, the term "mongoloid" is only medical - never racial - in Bulgaria, but it is used as an insult the way "retard" is used here.

That we are capable only of being what we are, remains our unforgivable sin.

Regardless of its use by unsophisticated persons to insult other individuals who may not correspond with a desired intellect, physical characteristics, personality, or those who suffer from certain medical maladies; contemporary physical anthropologists use the term to reference racial populations according to their genetic and physical characteristics.
I am aware. I just meant that the word ONLY means the medical condition in my language, when used on its own. To make it racial, you would have to only use it in the "mongoloid race" construct. If used at an individual, it implies retardation.
That we are capable only of being what we are, remains our unforgivable sin.

I don't know what you keep trying to imply. I am talking linguistics, not culture or education.
That we are capable only of being what we are, remains our unforgivable sin.
- Gene Wolfe
Huh? O.o Hate speech? I said something as a linguistic point of interest that the same word has only half the meaning in one language that it has in another, in no relation to any topic previously discussed here. Chill.
That we are capable only of being what we are, remains our unforgivable sin.

I put up a couple of "likes" on Susan Rice's FB page
Anyone else ?
Does anyone actually think she's a good pick.
That this pick is ........ Smart ?
Well...back to topic....I really don't see her being confirmed as Secretary of State.
Who are some other choices?
Beyonce would be good
She could negotiate deals and perform
It hasn't even been said that she is even thought of as a possibility.
BEWARE! Harassing the Indian may result in sudden and severe hair loss.
Yes, at a minimum.
I refered to the mental process and I see how associating these people with Mr McCain, who I did in fact refer to as McGollum, could be insulting and insensitive to people that are born with an unfortunate genetic disorder.
I think any group at this point would feel insulted by being associated with him.
To all the members that suffer from downs syndrome, I deeply apologize. I would prefer your company to that of Mr McCain
I am not amused with Mr McCain's desire to smear a woman with lies, and so I gave him the same treatment that he gave her to prove a point.
That point being proven, I had carefully chosen words that were meant to offend, only Mr McCain, not any others.
If there are people here who suffer from this, or care for people who do, My actions were insensitive to them.
My apology, unasked for, but inferred needed, goes to people that are disabled. In any case, if this is the way that the board moderation interprets it's Code of Conduct then, that is what it is. I am a guest and the house rules are designed to create an even playing field. I will comply, respectfully.
But I am not apologizing to Mr McCain.
To the topic....
Rice will not be the next SoS. Kerry will stonewall Obama in the senate if he does not get in the admin. He's old and he wants to retire with a year or two in exec service and the period on his career.
Kerry has too many favors out to not be able to sabotage the nomination.
McGourd is shooting the GOP in the foot to get a committee seat, and it's one of the most ridiculous political moves he's ever made. He fears the irelevance of his next assignment, the committee on indian affairs.... they oversee the reservations, I believe.
The democrats are TRYING to give Scott Brown his seat back, so we can have a swing GOP senate voter.
McCain seems to think being on the native american committee is below him. I think he's below the senate's acceptable standards of behavior and needs to be investigated by the ethics committee.
Until that happens, I intend to give him what he gives to the innocent people that are in his political way.
PS... His daughter has recently stated that she is considering leaving the GOP over the way the party has handled the election and it's aftermath, and that's more of a personal condemnation of her father than I could ever give.
for secretary of state, I think the "wide" amount of deference is crazy
it's a critical position - it's not ambassador to ireland
my guess is that had we done a poll HERE with an 85-15 progressive split, her name would not have appeared as a candidate
she's a teacher's pet play - one who has no biz being in the convo
that was BEFORE Benghazi spontaneous silliness
and before UBER progressive Obama loving talking head Dana Millbank offered some insights into her conduct and her ability to get along with others
outenzee
if the president goes to the mat, one must wonder why the fuck he would
that'd be worthy of an investigation
Yeah, I personally would prefer Kerry, but actually don't think there is anything disqualifying about Rice whatsoever... a president is supposed to have a lot of flexibility in his appointments... that is when he isn't surrounded by a bunch of obstructionists. I would be far more concerned with the character traits that Loki listed previously than anything about Libya... which is imaginary and a witch hunt targeted at the messenger.
I also think a Rice pick would show strength the Obama campaign could give a flying fuck about the GOP's ridiculous conspiracy theories. It's funny... the GOP first claimed Obama was throwing Rice under the bus... and THAT was outrageous... now that he isn't... THAT's ALSO outrageous. Go figure...
strength? how so? by being stupid? obstinate? picking a friend over the most qualified? that's strength?
that's childish
your focus on what the GOP "thinks" is sorta silly and off point
and a deflection
lots of that going around
convos about mccain when the topic is rice
convos about xyz when the topic is journalistic integrity
seems there's a market for noise not the topic at hand
the topic here is secretary of state - prob the # 1 position next to pres.
This thread is about the possibility of Rice as SoS... is it not? I'm tired of this nonsense that McCain... who is the most senior and animated critic of the possibility of Rice as SoS (see the connection)... the conspiracy voicebox of the GOP... is completely irrelevant. He is completely relevant as his behavior is 100% indicative of the GOP's/conservatve media's obsession with the false premise around Libya and what Rice's role in that situation was.
And, if you read my post, I never said he should base he decision on showing up the GOP on their ridiculousness (I actually said I prefer Kerry)... of course it should be on qualifications... which she coincidentally also has. That would just be one consequence...
Rice is not the right person for the job.
Aside from all the political considerations, I think she simply does not have the basic social skills needed for that position. I base my opinion on interviews that I have seen with her. She is very dismissive of those who ask her questions she does not like and is a bit too, how can you say politely, well she is a bit too arrogant.
I have never cared for her, and I think she as been a less than average UN rep. She is better than anything Bush fielded in the UN, but that is not the best of standards one can use to judge her.
What of substance has she accopplished in the UN since her tenure began? Sec Clinton took the lead on the Libya intervention, so that was not her work. What votes has she gotten through the security council? How has she moved russia and China to stop blocking the UN intervention in Syria?
The US has a much more respected global profile in the world since Obama took office, but I can't see any reason that she was part of anything good.
Blaming her and vilifying her for Benghazi is bellow the belt. It's just not within her purview to have done anything but repeat info that others gave her. As ambassador, she does not make up policy, she repeats what policy papers she's been given by other agencies. She acts at the convenience of the president and represents his interests.
She does not make policy.
well it appears it's rice v kerry - it's not a "possibility" as in it's a long shot - read BP's Massachusetts takes over the world essay
I understand you don't like McCain and our resident Masshole (I say that with all due respect) has outlined 100 different vile cuss words to describe Sen. McCain who I will never forgive for his DADT performance (a losing one at that) and lost great respect for during his most recent re-election campaign where he had to go the right of a right wing challenger
that said - he's a war hero - POW - not many of those still living - and for that I and I feel all americans should respect that service, conduct, etc.
back to topic
beyonce is a better choice IMO
as silly as it sounds imagine a cabinet of hollywood stars/starlets, singers, etc.
I wonder if Bill Clinton would have some free time for the job?
He was pretty fucking good with foreign as well as domestic affairs.
That's been a secret fantasy of mine for a while. Big Bill has been after a different position up until now. He wanted to be Secretary General of the United nations, But they listed him as a populist impossible candidate.
http://www.unsg.org/candidates.html
It may be he would do it, to improve his chops there. The Clinton Global Initiative seems to not have been enough for them just yet.
I could get behind Bill.... it wouldn't be that historic at all for a President to serve in a future admin... He definitively earned his spot in an Obama Admin by getting so many opinions and votes headed the right direction.
THis is what SHE said on monday.....
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp...8ba77b1e43.131Susan Rice, the top US diplomat at the center of speculation about a top job in the new Obama administration, said Monday she is happy to remain the US ambassador to the United Nations.
US media reports have made Rice a strong contender to become US secretary of state in place of Hillary Clinton or President Barack Obama's national security adviser.
"I love my job here at the United Nations. I always have, I always will, especially today, and I look forward to continuing to serve for as long as President Obama would like me to," Rice told reporters after the United States secured a second term on the UN Human Rights Council.
So all this week they have been fighting over a job she has stated that she does not desire to have.
As a certain Texan would say... Bless your pea pickin heart.
How clever of you to have copy and pasted something that someone else sent you that didn't have the Brass tacks to just post themselves.
Well that's the Pudding on top of the Pie.
Boston i think it comes down to the initial weighing of the cocks to see whose is biggest.... it could have been any issue but they had to test the waters.... republicans now know deep down inside that they suck. I think it is no surprise that right after everyone reacted with incredulous indignation at McCain's stupid antics you saw first Boehner and then McConnell concede that revenue (A.K.A. Raising Taxes) was on the table....
Sounds strange because of the other Rice in the Bush administration and now this Rice ?
Can't they pick other people with different name?
NEVER LISTEN TO A ONE SIDED STORY AND JUDGE.
^^^
It's an American conspiracy to confuse the rest of the world.
Hmm don't see any of the righties in here admitting they were completely wrong and so was John McCain now that Patraeus has completely defused the conspiracy idea.
But I suppose never admitting you are wrong is par for the course....
Susan's Sunday tour in addition to the fabrication of the "spontaneous reaction to the video" also included the campaign lie that al Qaeda had been decimated
Liar
Stooge
Both
Take your pick
Petraeus testimony is anything but positive for WH
It proves what was known when
That the cover story was bullshit
I can't wait to find out who came up with the crazy fake video response and how they got almost everyone to go along with it. There has to be a movie or book deal there.
De-NILE.... lol
The same hearing agreed that the white house changed one word... Consulate to Mission.....
Another oddity is after the video was featured on the Egyptian evening news and after the outrage sparked riots in many places it is funny that no republican can actually agree to that... everyone of the outside the mainstream and haven't realized they lost horribly for their stupid tirades republicans still claims the video had no effect... While it certainly didn't in Benghazi is did in many other places...
Odd..
Kinda like McCain is an out of date asshat who made the Navy a better place when he left.....
What is really tragic is instead of actually finding out details that can prevent a future occurrence of the same failures the republican members of the panel are more intent on some fake conspiracy theory that was concocted to bolster a failed Presidential bid INSTEAD of focusing on why intel was so out to lunch to ignore months worth of indicators, that the response system for a diplomatic mission was so crickety that in eight hours military assets were not deployed.... those are the key issues... not Susan Rice. But once again the right seems intent on focusing on what can hurt Democrats and not what will help America. Sad and pathetic.
^Exactly...you raise two very good points here...
First... yes... indeed... the conspiracy balance beam that the right is standing on is getting ridiculously thin... I suppose at this point they are hoping the Obama reelection campaign bribed the entire intelligence community on signing off on the talking points and they weren't changed for security/classified reasons?
Second... this is extremely key too... this imaginary witchhunt is:
A.) Indeed ignoring the real problem... that this incident was a MASSIVE intelligence failure by the intelligence community (not Susan Rice) that needs to be improved... as correcting this actually makes us safer... not shooting the messenger in the aftermath...
B.) Certainly a distraction from creating... um... jobs...
McCarthy is smiling today. That mullet McCunt id continuing his work all too well.
The GOP has no shame. They lie. It is institutional, and as we see here, it is endemic in their base.
Lie and smear... sour grapes for losing an election. The hate and mud party is having a roll in the filth, come one come all.
Actually what's "tragic" is the stupidity showcased by those in love
Blinding any judgement they may have once owned
Susan was given bad info
Susan is stupid
Susan is lying
Those are the options
Pick one - any one - and tell me that this is a good thing
What's also tragic is the idea that the truth gets in the way of anything
Things that went wrong here:
Lack of response to security requested
Day of attack no help given
Story made up about what happened
Weeks - months of bullshit
All points to Pres. Major shortcomings
While his base defends the indefensible
Nope it is all McCain's fault for being a failed legislator who can't seem to get the argument right since it keeps getting knocked back into his face.... him and his new bitch Lyndsey now that his old prison bitch Lieberman is headed out to retirement...
At least you're starting to give us more options...
I'm going to go with a.). She was given bad info... by the intelligence community... certainly not a good thing... but not indicative of a cover up in the slightest... nor is there any evidence to suggest otherwise... but I'm patient...
I'm going to go with a.) again here. While we still don't know the exact nature of the security requests, I will agree with you the handling of the situation BEFORE the incident seems pretty flawed and I hope the investigation turns up things to help us make our troops safer in the future. And, I certainly believe the administration's handling of these details should be examined thoroughly.
I personally don't think it will ever come out in the wash BUT the reason forces were not used is because of the almost rebllion like nature of the republican response to using air resources in the liberation of Libya... had we committed ground forces to save our people the right would have claimed warmonger... I think that was the over riding hesitation to put in people.... we shall see what they come up with ... but guarantee aportion of the failure is blamed on ROE... ROE that is situational and set based off the political situation primarily. I have been in too many of these theaters where we didnt do what we COULD have done to stop or arrest an assult simply because of ROE.
First salient statement on this Issue... I know you will join me in Supporting our President who started the investigation and desire to find the truth about what went wrong....
as far as looney right wing conspiracy nuts? Lyndsey Graham was allowed to just blather on meet the press but was ask very exact questions about his allegations... such as going on a tirade about a cover up and then when ask if the President was covering it up Graham said ... no I think... and then went off not answering the question... he did that multiple time...
so anyone who follows politics KNOWS the politician who doges every question is on the wrong side of the argument and they know it.
McCarthy now
Jesus
More progressive terrorism bullshit
By the loudest of the loud
But you're right about the lying part
The only lies here are perpetrated by the Admin and their human moat
Obama is right "come at me"
He's got a chubby on this for some inexplicable reason
When he should bow his head in shame
As his inactions prior and during helped cause the death of 4 brave Americans and his actions after have disgraced their memories and insulted any intelligent person's intelligence
You can spout your hateful bullshit about McCain all u want over and over again
Doesn't change the fact that the president is the lead player in this fiasco and his conduct has been disgraceful
