I say let Texas go along with Mississippi, Alabama and Kentucky.
Yes let them go.
Yes,reduce them to a territory
No, but if they take up arms, don't fight to make them stay
no. Invade if needed to keep them.
I say let Texas go along with Mississippi, Alabama and Kentucky.
Why would we want to go anywhere with Mississippi, Alabama and Kentucky?
ATTACK OF THE LIBERAL ELITE
You wouldn't.
Y'all talk like Texas is the backwoods, but let me remind you that what you are seeing is the political class, Texas is the second most populous state in the union and we have a very diverse population that is underrepresented in our politics, and this is quite deliberate. People here who would vote dem or other don't vote a lot of times because there is no one encouraging them to do so.
Someone up-thread mentioned raw numbers, well, there is a huge well of non-voters here who could be persuaded to be voters given some encouragement, why should they vote Dem, when there are no Dems around?

I am ready to vote to divide the country. The US is committed to a downward spiral economically and politically. Perhaps part of the country could avoid being dragged down. Alas it won't happen, but i would vote for ir.

While there are a lot of Pubs who ARE idiots, Perry has proven not to be an idiot on the subject of his own survival - when he was posturing about ACA the first time I suspected he'd cave, if for no other reason than sooner rather than later the Latinos and African Americans hereabout were gonna figure out that ACA will benefit them the most.

As some of my fellow Texans here on JUB know, I've been a Credentialed Member of the Texas Democratic Party, and Precinct Chair going back to Clinton.
The Texas Democratic Party can't find their asses out of a paper bag, even if provided with a flashlight, a map, and GPS smartphone.
Their strategy seems to be to "wait" until the Latino vote is large enough to actually make a difference in State Wide Politics.
And I'm thinking, that the State Democratic Party could ACTUALLY LEAD!
Texas Latinos voted for Paul Sadler by a nearly 3 to 1 margin over the "Tea Party" favorite Ted Cruz who's only connection with Texas Latinos (or Texans for that matter) is that he has a Latin Surname.
Texas Democrats, and the State Party platform is right on Education, Right on Healthcare, Right on the State's infrastructure, Right on Bi-Partisanship, Right on Gay Equality, Right on Religious Freedoms, but the State Party holds back their financial political "war chests" for "just the right" candidate.
That and the State Democratic Party takes its marching orders from the Democratic National Committee.
Which is one of the reasons why Texas Democrats, and Texans as a whole lose, and have been losing State wide Elections since 1994.
The DNC doesn't want Texas to be a "swing state." It's too big, there are too many counties, too many precincts, and a ground game would be to expensive for the National Party to fight here.
The Republican National Committee knows that to, so the two national parties have reduced Texas (and the loudmouth extremists here) as some sort of "political backwater."
Texas Republicans put their party before the people in every election in this State, and TX-Beau is right:
Because what few Dems that actually put their names on the ballot, and who have a solid message, and ideals that most appeal to the Texas electorate, The Texas Democratic Party is "hands off," refusing to take a lead and back one of their own...while they wait.Originally Posted by TX-Beau
While the DNC leaders in Washington, DC strategize the Congressional and Senatorial Precincts that they think are cheapest and easiest to win throughout the other 49 or so other states.
I could share more, but I'd be surprised if anyone has read this far.
P.S. I didn't vote in the poll because I think that it's just as knee jerk reactionary...extremist...as those it's meant to lament. Why give them any attention, spotlight, or creedance? It's more fun to point and laugh at their spelling, and how inbred some of them look.![]()

^ GC you're enthusiasm and optimism inspire me!
Ted Cruz couldn't shine Marco Rubio's shoes.
Ted Cruz was born in Canada of Cuban decent, which is why most Texans along with Latinos can't relate to the guy. So we traded Scott Brown, got Elizabeth Warren, and Texas sent Ted Cruz in Scott Brown's place.
The last time that I met up with some Texas Libertarians, their leading candidate was fresh from a Star Trek Convention, and hadn't completely removed his Klingon make up.

Bexar County is a major bellwether in presidential elections. Since the 1972 presidential election, the winner of Bexar County has gone on to win the general election. In the 2008 presidential election, Barack Obama carried Bexar County with 52.23% of the vote. This was very similar to his national figure of 52.92%.
Everyone I know here in Florida can't stand Marco Rubio. He's a plastic, fake piece of shit.

I always find it ironic that Texas and others complain about immigrants when only the Native Americians have a valid cause to complain.
Native Americans is a term I dislike....they're not native, they're the first wave of immigrants to the North and South American continents coming in from Asia. Legal immigration is a good thing, and it's pathetic how difficult it's become for those who have played by the rules to have to jump through hoops to become citizens. The cost of processing documents has skyrocketed. We have to control the borders, though in a workable and humane way that gives those here illegally a path to some potential legal status but all carrot and no stick cannot work. We can't keep giving blanket amnesty and swear the problem is solved.... serious immigration reform is something that has to be an immediate priority. Things now look very promising on that front for the first time in ages.
The whole secessionist nonsense is going nowhere... most Texans are loyal Americans who would much rather stay with the United States than go it alone. Just a fucking publicity stunt from some extremists looking to get free publicity and a platform.
And here Ninja thought Texas was complaining about immigration. Actually Immigration Reform is NOT hated in Texas with the same vehemence tea baggers elsewhere hate it - that's what ultimately sunk Perry with the pub "fear the brown horde," base.
To Saucy and his kinda confused rambling diatribe - it sounds like you are saying that Native Americans didn't play "by the rules," but since this was their country and they didn't invite any of us, neither did anyone else.
AN yes it WAS their country until we killed a bunch of them off and took it by force. I will agree it's kinda silly to cal them Americans since it WAS their country long before there was an America North or South. I suppose you'll just have to suck that one up to being a universally understandable reference tag.
ATTACK OF THE LIBERAL ELITE
Confused rambling diatribe? I didn't say they weren't playing by the rules ...they weren't invited here, either. They came thousands of years ago in waves...they were looking for space for their communities and tribes. The term for them is ancient or original Americans.... and I understand full well our sad and terrible treatment of ancient Americans and for good measure those we forcibly brought here in chains from Africa and their descendants. I emphasized they're not NATIVE Americans as they are not native to the Western Hemisphere and really wish that mischaracterization never became the politically correct term...they ARE the first immigrants. I never implied OR stated they weren't playing by the rules.
Well then your diatribe was rambling and confused since your objection to them being called "Americans," certainly didn't sound like anything but spite and all that about them being the "first immigrants," and not native could easily be seen - as in fact I've actually heard those EXACT words and sentiment used to justify the conquest of this continent. If you'd tossed in the ever popular "they weren't using most of it anyway." I'd have said that explicitly.
Methinks she doth protest too much...

We committed Genocide and stole their land. They were the occupants before we did that to them.
Let's not get in the weeds here. We were not just the next invaders of the land. We are the invaders of the land we now exist on. Usurpers.
That is part of our national identity. We all own that with every step we take, every mortgage we pay, every rent check we drop in the mail. We started off as occupiers, and haven't had a problem with continuing the habit globally militarily for our entire existence as a nation.
That's still the GOP's answer to an international problem to this day.... invade and occupy those lands that get in our way or disagree with us.
It's not glamorous, but its what really occurred.

Most of the genocide was unintentional. No one back then understood how people from more populous/crowded areas moving into areas less so inevitably bring with them diseases to which the natives have no widespread immunity. Long before white faces ever seriously settled beyond the Appalachians, four out of five inhabitants of Utah, the Dakotas, and beyond were dropping dead from horrors they'd never faced before.
If the disease issue hadn't been there, westward expansion would have been a far, far different story.

The weeds of true american history.
Ok I will go in with you. The plague occurred when the first round of settlers and slavers passed through in the fifteen hundreds, yes, and they spread the disease in blankets If I am not mistaken. Squanto was one of the slaves they scooped up and brought back to England before the mayflower ever set sail. Hell he had escaped and returned home to America before the mayflower had ever set sail.
I am familliar with Squanto and the implications of his life, that he had to work with the "pilgrims" in Plymouth, because his entire tribe was dead, and he knew English from his time as a slave in the courts of England. He met the pilgrims and spoke engli
So you're shaking some realities here...lol

In Texas, European diseases were introduced in the early 1500's, there were Spaniards and Indians all over the place for hundreds of years before the Texas Rangers. It wasn't "just" disease.
ATTACK OF THE LIBERAL ELITE
Kulindahr Is right. I believe the number I read once was 80 percent of the entire continent having died before the mayflower set sail.

And we know this how? It's strange that after the initial contact the Spanish make no more mention of mass epidemic.
ATTACK OF THE LIBERAL ELITE
I think that the diseases spread among the native americans faster than the europeans moved westward. I think the numbers are estimates based on the abandoned habitats and the bodies found.
Ehh... I saw a thing on this a few years ago on one of the discovery channels or whatever, and It's definitely an estimate. No one was counting heads before we got here.
See though when Spain got to New Mexico which had regular contact with not only the plains but the west, their Spanish diseases caused no epidemics. This was in the 1500's long before the US and when the US got there, they cause no epidemics either, when the US tried to wipe out the plains tribes with smallpox that didn't work.
By the time the US comes along, the age of pandemic is hundreds of years over.
ATTACK OF THE LIBERAL ELITE
I read a rather scholarly article on it recently, and the authors said they were being conservative in their estimates to hold it to eighty percent -- that it could have been ninety.
And the diseases spread fast enough that by the time Lewis and Clark got to bargaining for horses to cross the Rockies, the tribes they dealt with had been rebounding in population for at least four generations. The article noted that via trade links, infections brought by the Conquistadors would have reached British Columbia within a single generation.
Scary stuff.

So 64,000 votes represents 25,674,681 people?
I'd love to see the look on people's faces who don't even have a clue this is happening if it went through.
Paul Ryan couldn't say no to Government money
Michelle Bachman couldn't say no to Government money
Mittens couldn't say no to government money to balance his budget and Rick Perry surely is not either.
Poor Rednecks, they still haven't come to terms that a black man is the head of their country. Poor dat.
