* are young in fact and in appearance. As in "could pass for a high school student".
* have a minimum of body hair between their nose and feet - maybe a bit under the arms, a bit around the pubes, but that's about it.
* weigh less than average. No curves anywhere.
* have a generically "cute" face. Nothing "rugged", just sort of androgynously "cute".
* aren't too bright.

I realize I'm putting myself on the line with that last bit. But please note that I'm not saying everybody who meets the other characteristics meets the last one. Just if you there's a pretty smart kid who has the other characteristics, I wouldn't think of him as a "twink". I tend to think of "twinks" as...well, simple. Young, inexperienced, pretty shallow, enjoying idle chit-chat about this and that. And please note I'm not putting myself above them. I don't think I'm "better" than twinks. I'm just not in the same social sphere.

It was invented back in the 70s, I think. It references the Twinkie (soft, sweet, full of cream, generic, and completely forgettable). It's actually rather derogatory when you think on it.
