Last night was EPIC! I can't believe we chatted for 4 hours, it didnt seem like it was that long at all! Thanks to everyone that stayed up to chat, especially those in other countries where it was WAAAYY past your bedtimes, you guys are troopers!
We just created an account on cam4.com so we can have a little more freedom to get naked on the next cam show. Somebody pointed out that we wont be able to make it a private chat, so I guess we can try to use it as a promotion tool as well. I think we're gonna shoot for Wednesday or Thursday night this week.

I guess this thread and Pique's deserved ouster make this as good as place as any to say something that's been puzzling me for a long time. I really believe that I think much more like a typical straight guy than like a gay. It might be why I wonder about the attitude that's so prevalent on these boards.
It seems that everybody assumes that a gay4pay guy is taking advantage of us gays. I think the opposite. We are taking advantage of him. He's being degraded in HIS eyes(not ours) and in the eyes of the "straight world" by being brought to the point where, in order to make a living, he has to abandon his principles of what is ok and what isn't. I must say, I don't feel that he is doing something wrong, but he appears as though he is to str8s.
My opinion is that, to think that we gays are being degraded is (wait for the cliche that I hate) "self-loathing".

I'm not sure the thread wants to go full bore on this topic (maybe a side thread?), but I'm always willing to put in my two cents.

I generally dislike absolutes when it comes to sexuality, whether it is being promoted by gays or str8s, at G4P guys. I'm sure you are right that many str8 guys look down on A-Z, and maybe PC's problem on the thread was that he felt he was being condescended to.

BUT, I think what makes Austin and Zane so enjoyable to watch and interact with is they don't seem to feel taken advantage of, degraded, or that they are abandoning their principles. They seem at home in their bodies, sexually adventurous, and get a bit of exhibitionist pleasure from others watching them.

Only they can answer for sure, but I would feel saddened if they are doing their website only out of desperation, a feeling that they have to do something very distasteful to themselves in order to get money. While I'm under no illusions that they think gay sex is the coolest thing ever, they certainly seem comfortable enough with it to convince us watching. That is their "hook."

I'm talking about "OK" and "not OK" strictly from the conventional str8 point of view (that is, what these guys think of themselves and what their friends will think of them). I'm definitely NOT talking about morality or absolutes. Very interesting... I think there are actually two completely different topics here. 1.) Is the assumption that gay4pays take advantage of gays, and 2.) How we morally view ourselves having gay sex.

The first one is tricky because when I first started working in the industry, the entire gay4pay market was entirely confusing to me. I would read things on forums saying how horrible our videos were and how nobody got hard and what a waste of money the old site was, etc. I couldn't figure out why gay guys would pay straight guys to have sex and then be disappointed in the performance because they weren't into the other guys. A lot of the comments were so harsh that it really left a bad taste in my mouth in regards to our members. In a way, I thought maybe these 'bitchy queens' as the old boss referred to them, were just jealous because we were making a living doing what they would do for free any day of the week. Keep in mind, that we were pretty blocked off from having any fan interaction, so I was basing my judgment off of what I had read.

Over the course of my employment at the old site, we had chance run-ins with fans on the strip and we had an opportunity to get to personally know some of our gay fans and start to understand what our work meant to them. (One night on the strip, Austin and I were actually approached by scouts for SeanCody and told us how much more money we could make working for them, SC even tried adding us on our personal MySpaces to get us to leave SCM.) But the point I am trying to make is that Austin and I both came from relatively small towns, (mine was actually called a village) and so when we came to Vegas, atleast for me, it was a bit of a culture shock. At all three of my jobs that I've had in Vegas, my bosses were gay. I learned very quickly that gay people weren't exactly what MTV and the rest of the mainstream media portrayed. A lot of them were a lot like us and we'd shoot-the-shit with them for hours. Ask some of our fans like Frank and Rich how much we enjoy talking to them on the phone for way too long hahahaha. As we met more and more of our fans, it became more apparent to us that our fans didn't just like us because of the sex we had on film, that they really just appreciated who we were as people as well- something that I think our fans and the entire gay community deserve in return. So, while I can see where someone might feel that Gay4pays take advantage of or exploit the gay community, thats just not the case with us. Now that we are on our own and have complete control creatively, we are having a blast creating a place for ya'll to get your rocks off. It's almost like a challenge for us to get it just right.
As far as us feeling like we are doing something wrong morally, to say that never crossed our mind would be a flat out lie. There was a lot of hesitation at first when the gay4pay idea was proposed to me, I often wondered what my parents would think if they found out or how some of my crazy religious friends would react. I thought that if anyone from home saw it, they would immediately think I was gay. I was single at the time and wondered how am I ever gonna find a girl that is even remotely okay with this (I got lucky ). And in fact a lot of the members even blogged that I had to be gay. There have been plenty of times where I just wanted to say fuck it and get out. When the old company was moving to Kentucky, a small part of me was pretty comfortable with the idea of never going gay-porn again, I could go back to being normal Jared, go back to school, just settling down.

I started talking with some fans on the blogs to let them know how we were doing and the love and support they showed us just kept pouring in. It was a little overwhelming and almost unanimous- the fans wanted more and would support a new site venture. We talked it over for a few weeks and finally decided that if we did indeed start a site of our own, we would dedicate it to our loyal fans and we wouldn’t half-ass it- we were ALL IN. I knew that if we really wanted it to have a successful run, we had to up the intensity level which meant I was finally going to bottom- a bunch of times. What once seemed like a 'moral-burden' to us, is now an exciting mission to make the most worthy product on the market. We stopped worrying what others would think if they found out and decided if they weren't supportive, then those aren't the types of people we want in our lives anyways. We know we can't and won't do this forever but for the time being, I feel pretty lucky getting to work with my best friend on a daily basis and we are getting a chance to meet so many great people in the process.

On a side note, we know we are unfortunately going to have to deal with people like Pique on a regular basis, that's just the nature of the beast. However, as I write this on MLKJ day, it still frustrates me that we still have people today that live and breathe animosity as if it adds anything positive to anything at all. I am assuming you are a member of the gay community which has fought long and hard for peace and equality. The mere fact that your name is PiqueChampion (definition of pique: to affect with sharp irritation and resentment, esp. by some wound to pride) makes me believe that you are a very sad, lonely, 'available' person who celebrates bringing down others. I must have missed the PSA in school where they said only the wealthy could fall in love and 'breed'. And for someone who got all upset and assumed my girlfriend was a homophobe, it sure does seem a little hypocritical to assume that precautions weren't taken to prevent pregnancy.

I thought your post was very fair, I just hope I answered your question at least a little bit. I think we kinda came to the realization that if we took too much stock into what people perceived us as, then we are definitely in the wrong profession. All we can say is that we are straight guys that have open minds and do gay porn. If someone perceives us or that as gay, then chances are they've already made up their mind and we would be wasting our time trying to convince them otherwise. On our new site, you're going to see us do things that are so much more intense than our previous work, that we actually anticipate more people questioning our sexuality and that doesn't bother us at all, we're pretty comfortable with who we are and we totally understand. Zane, if you intend to look on gay blogs and message boards for feedback, you need to be careful with how to take the things you read. You see, we (meaning us gays) tend to be snarky and cynical - which is kinda understandable when you consider all the bullshit that's thrown our way on a daily basis, but many people cross the line.

I'm not against cynicism - on the contrary, on small doses it can be healthy and entertaining. But there's a difference between snark and aggression, and when you have grudges stored up from earlier injustice and discrimination, you tend to turn a bit mean. That, I think, is the case of PiqueChampion and a lot of gay people (and others) commenting on the internet.

Look at Towleroad.com if you have the chance and see what I'm talking about. It's an amazing blog with gay news, mostly related to politics, but it has THE WORST commenters this side of YouTube. It's either people taking small things out of proportion and ranting about how it "offends" them, or reactionaries cursing the "bitchy queens" and going on and on about how gay people are ridiculous, frivolous, etc. - as if they weren't a part of that group. And I didn't even mention the trolls!

It's clear to anyone who's paying attention that you guys are genuine. But it's not everyone that will take the time to know what they're talking about, some people will see "gay 4 pay" and jump to the worst conclusions. In those cases, maybe you should make an effort to just ignore them. If they really cross the line, report them or talk to a moderator. Just don't take it personally.

And about the moral aspect of what you're doing: the only important thing is that you guys feel OK doing it and have fun. There are situations where straight guys try to find an audience with gay people while providing barely any content they enjoy and endulging on pathetic double standards (*cof*Cody*cof*Cummings*cof*), but for most people, seeing two guys having unwilling awkward sex? Not hot.

You should talk to a lawyer before you do something like this. It's possible that "please don't allow our scenes to be pirated for the next 3 months" could be interpreted as tacit permission to pirate.

True, it would in a sense be allowing pirating after the moratorium time. But to pretend the sites don't exist is to have de facto pirating happen anyways. AZ isn't likely to have a team of big scary lawyers able to halt the pirating easily. Go visit those torrent sites, you'll see files from pretty much every gay website available. So maybe the best option realistically available is to work with the sites to slow the immediate pirating. Austin and Zane are young enough that they have likely downloaded music illegally. Same general issue here. (I'm not trying to impune AZ's character, just making a generational observation) So they can try to slow the downloading at the torrent end, and work with the fans / customers to prevent posting of the material on the sites in the first place.

Torrent piracy takes a cut out of all porn producers profits, but it happens, and happens alot. The morality of that is for another thread, but at issue here is its impact on a fledgling website. I want AustinZane to be mucho-successful, so I wanted to raise the issue with them so they could take steps to mitigate the problem. I'm no lawyer, so nothing I say is legal advice, just observational advice.

I did watch the camshow, and I know there was talk/advice about good free places online to advertise, which I hope you pursue. I have some advice on the flip side.

Don't get abusive or legalistic with them the way some sites have (including the old SCM), just ask politely and explain that if the content goes out to everyone for free, you won't get the business off the ground to make more scenes. I know some of my fellow gays may squawk at this limit, but I want you guys to succeed. We all I bet have downloaded free porn, but snipping from an established business is functionally different from doing it to a start-up, even if morally the same.

And all three sites have forums in which those of us who are AZ devotees (we need to come up with a cool name) can spread the word about how great you are. Maybe even you make one scene or an extended teaser available for upload, so that people can see a bit and then go join.

Just my two cents as I was on the forum of one of those sites. Opinions to the contrary anybody?

I personally wouldn't advocate using torrent sites. The adult industry is going to be extremely pro-active this year on piracy. Already this year it has succeeded in closing down two of the biggest torrent sites with 3million members between them. More torrent site closures will follow - and possibly file hosting companies. I would personally look to the tube sites where official content can be posted - there is less likelihood of many tube sites being closed down - they'll receive a shedload of DMCA notices, but the legitimate sites will be fairly safe.

@AustinZane: I'll be in touch over the next couple of days with some more in depth information, suggestions and advice.
