The anti-abortion part doesn't bother me at all,indeed I'm very sympathetic.His mother chose to have him despite being in a tough personal; situation.Being against,or deeply ambivalent regarding most instances of abortion is very ethically defensible.It's the anti gay part of Focus on the Family,which is indeed a major cog in their agenda,that's indefensible on all grounds and would be the reason I was appalled by the commercial.The hypocrisy of the group is contemptible,and it is commmon with most of the social conservative organizations to sour their so-called Christian values with the acidic vinegar of bigotry and intolerance.

I appreciate your post because I predicted that if anyone responded it would be "I dont care, he's hot." I love how you pointed out the white straight muscular jock part too. Gay people love to nitpick about anything another gay person does. The self hatred within the community is almost unbelievable. A perfect example is how any thread about Adam Lambert turns into a bashfest. But a white straight muscular jock could be a Neo-Nazi rapist and people would be saying how they would give up their souls to rim him.

Another good example: Kanye West gets mercilessly bashed (here and on several gay blogs) for being Kanye West and especially after Taylorgate, even though West is one of the only rappers who has come out and said that gay people need to be treated equally, and he's even criticized hip hop for being too homophobic and urged the community to change that. Did gays in general thank Kanye for that? No. Instead he is constantly ridiculed for things that don't matter at all.

Meanwhile Tim Tebow et al can form an alliance with any homophobic group they want, and gays are all, "But he's still hot" and "It's his right to free speech." I don't think I need to point out that this hypocrisy falls along race lines, straight male worship, and conventional notions of beauty (big pecs, thick neck, blue eyes etc).

Choice is great when it isn't going to affect the life of those who are here already...I don't like Focus on the Family and if you read my post while without thinking up your preconceived talking points,I don't like the organization specifically because of their anti-gay views.I also support birth control and safe sex,things conservative religious groups foolishly oppose.Abortion is as best very questionable ethically to defend....even Bill Clinton tried to play it down the middle when he supported abortion rights but said abortions should be rare.Hiswords being that abortions should be "safe,legal and rare."It is a shame that liberals who say they believe in human rights for everyone have ceded the moral high ground to the social right regarding abortion.I'm defending only the viewpoint expressed in the commercial...not the group.Their actions against the rights of gays for equality under the law are morally abhorrent,very un-Christian.

We're not going to convince each other regarding our stands on abortion rights....CBS has said it has adapted its policy on accepting advertisements on issues so unlike the time a couple years back it would not air a very positive pro-gay marriage ad as too controversial...if a similar one is produced and marketed to them or other stations it should air as well.

Note the referral to Focus' Web site at the end of the TV ad. That TV ad is just to get people to go to Focus' Web site, where there is doubtlessly tons of deceptions, half-truths, distortions, and outright lies. I've seen all this before and come to expect nothing less than that from that organization in the nearly 20 years that they've been in my state.

You can't take anything those people at FOTF say at face value. There's always some agenda, sometimes hidden, sometimes not. Doesn't matter whether James Dobson is running it or not. I've seen waaaaaaaay too much in 20 years -- I wouldn't trust them one bit.

The story (supposedly, if you believe anything those people say) is that her pregnancy was difficult and her doctor advised her to get an abortion. She didn't, and eventually delivered Tim.

But, if it was a difficult pregnancy, traveling that far, to return to the US, probably wasn't an option either. Most women with that kind of pregnancy get put on bed rest. And the Phillippines' laws on abortion are pretty tough:

There is no law in the Philippines that expressly authorizes abortions in order to save the woman's life; and the general provisions which do penalize abortion make no qualifications if the woman's life is endangered.

Sorry, bud. This TV ad is a friendly, cheery little ruse designed to get people to go to their Web site, where they'll lay their political traps. I've seen FOTF do this kind of stuff before. They haven't changed.

I actually don't care if FOTF is anti-abortion; I don't really have a horse in that race. But, they should be honest. That's what I really despise about them: they lie. Like a rug.
