He and Mark are great friends for years. Dancing in competitions since they were little boys. They still perform together in a "Band" (Check out YouTube for a taste)
I've seen video of them dancing in a club in LA recently...HOT!!!

Luckily on DWTS, the viewers votes are combined with the judges votes. This helps (but still doesn't guarantee) the truly better dancers to advance. Yes Derek is hot, but c'mon, what is this? High school? Derek is a great dancer, but Shannon is only meh.
