Kelly Clarkson Drives 'Stronger' to Hot 100 Summit
In what an RCA Records representative terms a "perfect storm" of radio airplay, digital sales and pop culture prominence, Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" rises from No. 2 to No. 1 on this week's Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. The uptempo pop anthem becomes the original "American Idol" champion's third leader on the list.
Clarkson first reigned with her "Idol" coronation song "A Moment Like This" for two weeks in 2002. She returned to the summit with "My Life Would Suck Without You" for two weeks beginning this week in 2009.
"Stronger" soars to the Hot 100's top spot with top Airplay Gainer honors, charging 33-15 on the Radio Songs chart (58 million audience impressions, up 49%, according to Nielsen BDS).
On the Digital Songs survey, "Stronger" spends a second week at No. 1. The song sold 237,000 downloads (up 6%) in the list's tracking week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The sum marks Clarkson's second-best sales week, outpaced only by the debut frame of "My Life" (280,000).
Aiding Clarkson and her new leader's profile, the singer performed the national anthem before Sunday's Super Bowl (Feb. 6) in Indianapolis. With 111.3 million viewers on NBC, the NFL championship game became the most-watched event in TV history, according to Nielsen.
"Stronger" also serves as the soundtrack to Toyota's current TV spot for its Camry model, in which Clarkson, from the driver's seat, leads a sing-along of the song with the seemingly unlikely trio of ESPN's Chris Berman, Bravo's James Lipton and the Travel Channel's Andrew Zimmern.
As Clarkson motors to the Hot 100's top spot, Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" descends to No. 2 after two weeks at No. 1. The song pushes 4-2 on Radio Songs (127 million, up 8%) and holds at No. 2 on Digital Songs (after leading the tally three weeks ago) with 165,000 downloads sold (down 1%).

At least she is taking advantage of the HUGE stepping board AI offered her...
I'm disappointed in Clay -- He was REALLY REALLY good -- but kind of gave up after coming out...
I CANNOT BELIEVE that "what's his name" from Birmingham actually WON that season...
Oh well -- AI is more about RATINGS than actually FINDING a SUPER STAR...
That ALSO disappoints me...

"There’s death on the horizon,
and I’ll run to behold your sacrifice..."
I don't see why people even bother going on AI anymore. After 11 seasons, only 3 or 4 of them have actually had major success, and most weren't even the winners.
And Kelly is the only one who actually shed her "AI" stigma and became anything actually close to being an idol. Well, her and Carrie Underwood.
Clay is still REALLY REALLY REALLY good. Maybe your disappointment is that he loves songs with great melodies, which you don't find much in pop music anymore. He loves the classics from the 50s/60s and rock anthems from the 70s/80s.
You won't ever hear him on the radio but that is a tragedy because voices like his should be appreciated.
He curls my toes.
Kelly Clarkson has come a long way since her AI days..and she's still one of my favorites.
So, this weekend I am going to see Kelly Clarkson in concert for the first time ever!
I am super excited and cannot wait, especially because it will be my birthday. I idolize the woman and get weak in the knees at the thought of possibly meeting her after the show. Anyone else a Kelly fan and been to one of her shows?
Went to see her a few months back on this tour....it was FANTASTIC! I've seen her twice before and this was def. her best! She's not only an amazing singer/performer but she's just so damn adorable and funny too! haha
I am a huge Kelly fan but have never seen her live. Have fun.![]()
I've been once. I wanted to go this time around, but sold out. She is awesome and real.
HELL YEAH!!
I am using JUB to give a birthday shout out to one of my favorite musical artist of all time, Kelly Clarkson!
Kelly Clarkson turns the big 30 today!!
Kelly, I was never a fan of you for most of your run on Idol. But all of a sudden you came out of nowhere and just starting owning the entire competition when there were just a few contestants left.
Since then, you've been the best thing to ever come off of Idol. You're still ranked as the #1 Idol by Billboard, and while Carrie Underwood may rival your CD sales in the US, she doesn't get as much radio dominance, single sales, and worldwide success as you. You are the only Idol to score #1 singles in both UK and Australia.
And Kelly, I just love your voice. You need no studio tricks. You have one of the best voices EVER in pop music. And I've personally related to so many of your song lyrics. Your songs have helped me get through some of the tough times.
I wish you all the success in the world. May you have another 30 years of awesome music, happiness, and love.
Now I'll put down my favorite songs by you!
#5. Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)
#4. Because of You
#3. You Love Me (love the lyrics)
#2. Already Gone (to all you bitches saying this song is a rip off, it was written and produced before Halo by Beyonce)
#1. Hear Me (was never a single but is my all time favorite song by you)
Once again happy birthday Kelly! I wish you success in your TV show Duets! Please keep making more music. Your voice is divine.
Can you believe all this time has gone and she's 30 already?God I feel so old!Glad she is continuing to
put out some great music...she had been in a bit of a lull buzzwise the past couple of years before "Stronger"
got her back on top.Saw her National Anthem performance at trhe Super Bowl and it was one of the best.
She still seems to be the genuine, amazingly talented woman who won the first American Idol ten years ago....
happy birthday Kelly and much continued success!!!
Happy belated B-Day Miss Clarkson.
Eternal youth and endless life. I'll sacrifice everything and everyone to obtain it
Kelly Clarkson - Dark Side
man...I love Kelly...but the two people she picked for her team on Duets...were not the best. The guy has chops but "Breaking Your Own Heart" was not the right choice for the two of them. The girl sounded alright on "Stronger" but as the other superstars were saying that their voices were blending so much they couldn't tell who was singing, well yes they were blending and then Kelly just out sang the girl
From her upcoming greatest hits CD this November! This is one of the new songs she recorded for the greatest hits CD, but it will be released as a single.
Thought I'd share
Love it![]()
God she's had some good songs, my favorites would i guess be:
- Since you've been gone (obviously)
- My life would suck without you
- Low
- Breakaway
Well actually never mind because that list will just keep going....
Randy Blue is win.

LOVE KELLY CLARKSON

Eternal youth and endless life. I'll sacrifice everything and everyone to obtain it
I was not here for much of anything from her past album "Stronger" meant nothing to me. I L-O-V-E this track though.
It has some borderline progressive house synths in the versse. I'm always here for that. It creates such an uplifting vibe.
I heard the first two lines and cut it off. The cheesy lyrics... bothered me.
Love Kelly... not this song though.
"There’s death on the horizon,
and I’ll run to behold your sacrifice..."
I hope her greatest hits has all her top 10's except "A Moment Like This", since that song is so Idol and not Kelly... So her her 9 top 10 hits and 3 new tracks plus a few non-released singles would be great.
You Love Me, Impossible, Hear Me, Addicted, Chivas were all not released but are awesome IMO.
Here's the album cover for her Greatest Hits album

Official video:
She's gone back to her Breakaway era look & sound. Love it!
Just read that with the release of the Greatest Hits Chapter 1, she'll also be releasing the Smoakstack Sessions Vol. 2 which has me VERY excited!
OMG
Her voice just gets better and better!!
That's my Idol!
Big Kelly fan here. I saw her live last January and she was absolutely phenomenal. Unfortunately, she's left me feeling pretty meh lately. I mean, "Stronger" is arguably the most generic song I've ever heard, but then she went and topped it with "Catch My Breath" which sounds like one of those awful American Idol coronation songs, like "No Boundaries" or "This Is My Now".
I hope Kelly regains her spark soon!
get ready for greatness!
Jewel is releasing a Greatest Hits album and is featuring 2 new recordings of classic Jewel tracks. 1 being "You Were Meant For Me" feat. Pistol Annies and the other "Foolish Games" featuring the one and only Kelly Clarkson!
Take a listen to the track over at Muumuse!

^Awesome update. Also in other Kelly news she's working on her next studio album. She's been saying it will have more positive, happy songs as opposed to some of her recent releases.
lol, honey, way to quote a November post to reply in January! Almost all of Kelly's songs peak really high on itunes initially. Catch My Breath is doing just fine. It peaked at #4 though I believe
#15 on itunes right now, and #24 on the Hot 100~
Amazing how songs that play to an artist's strength and do justice to them have sustained performance. I don't know about your body, but this song definitely makes mine move.![]()
Kelly Clarkson has stated multiple times that she actually doesn't give a crap about being a star or having #1s. She just likes music and doesn't care about the fame that comes with it. Any song in the top 30 is actually pretty amazing.
As long as we're comparing stuff, it's very easy to find comparisons.
Since the real reason you are here is because you're still not over Your Body's failure as a single, I shall kindly remind you that the lead single of Christina Aguilera's last album peaked worse than Catch My Breath (which is still charting). The lead single of Christina's Bionic peaked at #23, but by your standards I guess that's not a hit too.
I would worry more about Christina's last 2 albums not going Platinum and the singles all performing poorly.
Don't hate, it makes you look so ugly.![]()
Point being you are so pissed over a disagreement I had with about Christina's current material that you bring it into other topics like a sore loser. It's almost like, don't you have anything better to do than to creep into another topic, quote a post from November, and start shit about it now, when it's 2 months old?
Geez, get a life.
No what actually happened was you came to this thread and decided to quote something well over 2 months old to bring in a discussion from another topic. Don't track your shit in this house. Leave your shoes outside.
Lotus bombed, get over it and yourself. It's unhealthy to be so obsessed with anything's success (or lack of). Seriously. I'm not even trying to be rude when I say get a life. Move on. Enjoy Lotus yourself. Stop changing IPs to request Christina songs on the radio. If Christina has said that she doesn't care about success now, you as her fan shouldn't either. Let it go.
Congratulations to Kelly Clarkson on her third Grammy win this Sunday!!!
Kelly won the Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy for Stronger, beating out Florence & The Machine, Maroon 5, Pink, and fun.
What the hell was that hideous dress she was wearing when she went up to accept her award???
^^^^
Still too skinny compared to the way she looked on the Grammy Awards.
for couple of gay men, you guys sure are intrigued by a woman's figure. Her curve, her weight, her figure.
how insiduous
Loved the acceptance speech
3x your size...wow. I didn't know there's an alive skeleton. But then thu nhu may, chet cang som cang tot.
I'm so sick of people talking about her weight...she's not that fucking big. She was 19 when she was on Idol...we've all packed on some lbs since we were 19...ridiculous.
LOL Kelly on Ellen's pic. Love it
I'm only picking up half of the weight conversation as I have a few people blocked on these forums and they could be posting? Idk?
But, Kelly's weight doesn't really affect her chart performance because she doesn't sell an image, she sells a voice. This is also why Adele does well. But there are other artists that are built on their overall image, and not just their voice, who take considerable backlash and their sales suffer when their image fails to deliver. This is why they constantly try to be risky, edgy, and re-invent themselves. Examples include Madonna, Lady GaGa, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Katy Perry, etc. Some fare better than others (Madonna's longevity is amazing) but others not so much (Christina's career to me is pretty much like a terminal cancer patient at this point).
As far as I'm concerned Kelly came off a singing competition and a decade later is still going strong. And her voice is like honey, it just gets better with age. She doesn't act promiscuous or sultry in her songs & videos because she doesn't need to. She and Adele are my favorite female vocalists right now
Grats to Adele on her win too! Honestly in that category I wanted either Adele or Kelly to win because of their respective vocal abilities.
Penayforray...why the hell are you posting in this thread? You obviously don't like Kelly Clarkson...stop wasting your time in a Kelly Clarkson thread.
you're a winner....and also the winner of my first blocking on JUB!
