Portland-Seattle Meet Up Round 3?

Hi there fellow Pacific Northwesterners!

Is there any interest in another Portland JUB meet up towards the end of the summer? I'd love to see Danjjo and Kuli and everyone again. I miss my friends.

Antdak, when do you move away from Portland? Can we do one more before you move?

I think that having this one in Washington would work for those up here who can't afford to drive to Portland. But we have several cities that would have suitable venues, so let's not limit ourselves to Seattle yet.

When I lived in Tacoma Silverstone was my neighborhood bar. Very casual, a little sleazy, a fun, easy going place. I went there a lot, no one should have any problems with the place, but I'm sure that no one will fall in love with it either.

Does Seattle still have the Tacky Tourist Cruise? I used to visit friends in Seattle in early August, and it appeared that this cruise happened the first Saturday or Sunday in August. I only went to one, and it was in the early 80s, but I was told that it was an annual event. It was the most fun I had in Seattle. The boat was huge, with a huge drag queen (and proportionately large wig) sat on top and startled the unsuspected straights on this boats or on the beaches. Participants dressed in drag as "tacky tourists", and there were contests - like "Miss Palm Beach" etc. Many straight guys mooned us as we passed by while drag queens took their pictures. One very cute straight guy fell off his boat in Lake Washington when he suddenly caught sight of us - he had been sunbathing on the front part of the boat (whatever that is called). Unfortunately I did not take my camera. I asked my friend if I should, and he said, "No, the memory will be burned too vividly in your memory," and he was right, but I still wish I had photos.

Yup, the Queen City Cruise is still alive and kicking after 26 years. For some reason I didn't go last year, but knew a bunch of people who did.

Summer is a busy time in the PNW I think, because we're all trying to enjoy the weather while we can If something got organized in the summer in Seattle, I'd probably go. I'd probably rather wait until fall to travel though, even if it's as close as Kitsap County or Olympia.

There's some limited chances I could be a long-distance visitor to a meet, if it's after Labor Day. There's a chance I'll be making an Oregon trip in September.

I am not saying this to make fun of you, but if you don't go to a meet, how will you meet anyone from the forum. I will be going for the first time also, so you wouldn't be the only one there who doesn't know anyone.

Now, let's get this meeting back on track. I am going to propose three dates and events. Maybe we could work around one of these.

Saturday 08/11/2007 Triple X Drive-In in Issaquah. There is a Cruise-In on Saturday nights, and if the weather cooperates, there are lots of cool cars.

Saturday 08/25/2007 Starkies Bar in Portland. There is going to be a car show at Starkies Bar, There is a group of people in Portland who want to start a LGBT Car Club in Portland. The Car Club I belong to will be assisting to organize and set up the car club.

Saturday 09/01/2007 Labor Day weekend. Renton WA Location TBD

^ All dates are impossible for me...urrgghhhh...everything that I most want to do is invariably scheduled during that VERY IDENTICAL 3-4 week period. The above conflict couldn't possibly be more exact and precise. Oh well.

But it's great seeing something proposed, as this thread has "kicked around" for quite a while now. I feel that "more JUB meets" is always better than "fewer JUB meets." Something that encourages the community to meet each other is a good thing.

But as far as somebody being shy about going to something where there will be people you've never met, keep THIS in mind:

^ I like this idea though I did honestly think we should do a Seattle area event because the last event we had was Portland. We missed the Greenwood Car Show!

Sad to say, though I live and work in Seattle, I have no idea what's in Renton.

Here is what I was thinking. We could meet in Downtown Renton, There is a Piazza right next to the Metro Transit Center. Right next to the Transit center is a Municipal Parking Garage. We could meet on the Piazza, walk a couple of blocks to either a sports bar or a BBQ joint, or both BBQ then the sports bar. The bar has pool tables, dart boards, and food. The BBQ joint I am thinking of is Cedar River Smokehouse. On 08/12/2007 there is a Muscle Car show at the triple X drive-in in Issaquah. If anyone wants to do that as an option, I can work out a plan for that show. Parking will be an issue for Car shows at the Triple X, but I know a couple places we can park which aren't too much of a walk. A word of warning though, The portions are large at the Triple X, and they don't take checks or plastic, so if we go there, bring cash.

EDIT: Another idea, We could do Portland and Renton or Issaquah.

SECOND EDIT: September and December have a fifth weekend, Would a fifth Saturday or fifth Sunday meeting be of interest to anyone? It could alternate between Seattle and Portland

I originally picked out the first, since it is Saturday. But Sunday would also be a possibility. I know that any one day isn't going to work for everyone, so I will offer the option of meeting on Sunday. Again, I can't be there, but...wow...is that all? Just TWO? You and Zeremonie can meet at any "unorganized" time - it's sad if at least five or six people don't show up.

I know there's more members than this in your area. C'mon, these chances don't come up all that often. Don't be discouraged because only two seem to be coming so far - the more who aren't discouraged, the higher the number will go. There was a little bash in Portland with three JUBbers last weekend, and that apparently went well.

Z, I should have invited you, but when gentry gets out this way it's on very short notice. He doesn't know until a couple of days ahead of time. And, last weekend wasn't as much a meet-up as the week before.
