When was da last time we saw a politician or presidential canidate often at the beach swimming... playing basketball... regularly exercising, jogging & working out... or even SHIRTLESS?? It's jus different and very refreshing to see.

I think it's great that he & Michelle are very much in2 exercise & dedicated to staying in shape. If they do make it in2 the White House, they'll definitely serve as a positive influence to ALL people when it comes to the importance of exercise and staying healthy and I'm sure many people will actually become MOTIVATED by seeing them exercise and staying active.

LOL. Well believe it or not.. some people do swim with shirts on or fully clothed. Typically obese, overweight, or out-of-shape people who are insecure and don't want their body seen publicly. But when you go to the beach shirtless - exposing your bare-chested body - it's being shown off for everyone else to see. Therefore allowing your body to be seen.. or in other words, "showing off your body". And whether your body is sexy or unflattering.. you're "showing it off" if you opt to be shirtless. And Obama obviously doesn't mind showing his off.

Not just because he is the first black president (yes, Bear 972, it is a significant milestone), but also because he is the most articulate, intelligent, and genuine president we have had since John F. Oh get off it. As a half black citizen this man wouldn't have been able to vote 100 years ago and wouldn't have had the right to even live a free life 200 years ago. This is a milestone in race relations and the African American community has every right to be overjoyed by what is a clear sign of amazing progress in race relations.

Now this is not a night for such pettiness. It's a night of incredible, almost impossible progress that should be celebrated as a victory for the democratic party, the African American community, and for all of America (and probably all the world).

I think some people have forgotten that he's half-white, and I believe some people probably don't even know he is. However, in regards to your second question...being half-black and half-white myself, to "decide" which race one is, the government goes by the person's father's race. His father is black, thus he is seen as black. I'm the same way. Even though I was raised by my white mother and my white grandmother, both British, and have seen my father less than 10 times in my life, I have to mark that I am black. The same goes for Obama.
