Watched food revolution a few times. An incredibly unlikable guy. He is so bitchy and demanding that he would take situations where he could actually make a difference, and through his attitude drive everyone away. Then he would act shocked and offended when at the end of the episode he was being ignored.

In other words....a chef! Trust me, I've worked with enough of them to know that they make prima-donna's look like Drew Barrymore. I don't know why, but the professions of pilot and chef seem to attract that certain type of thin-skinned alpha male.

I still remember on the show. He took over a Burger joint (non chain fast food type) and tried to convince the owner that you could make a milkshake without milk or ice cream.... and the burgers had to be all natural (note natural =/= more health.....just means more expensive most of the time) and fancy and BS and cost $7 for the burger alone.

Instead of taking the food he found and making it healthier. He always insisted on totally replacing everything about it. Which is why he failed everywhere he went.

It's funny just how badly he has been received over in America. I haven't seen any of the American shows so I don't know exactly how they've portrayed him but he always comes across quite well in the UK shows. Not my favourite chef to watch but he has good intentions (and I love his recipes). He has said he found the American chefs really difficult to work with and customers unwilling to change.

I find him cute. Boyfriend material rather than a quick fuck; he can make breakfast afterwards!

The idea that people need to eat more healthy are right. His opinions on how it should be done are moronic. He treats food like an all or nothing proposition....either its 100% organic, low fat, low sugar, healthiest option imaginable or bust....which isn't how the real world works.

I tuned into the show expecting to side with him 100% from what I had seen on ads for the show. His methods were designed to fail though....because failure makes hot TV.

Have you even seen his recipes? They're not the healthiest options imaginable. In fact, he's one of the most practical chefs on TV, as evidenced by the way he goes into people's homes and shows them how to cook using ingredients readily available at any grocery market. Your mentality is an example of why the food revolution never caught on and why there still is and will continue to be an obesity epidemic.

I can't speak to his recipes since I have only seen him in revolution.

However, what you describe is NOT what was on the show. My mentality has nothing to do with it. His douchebaggery on the show did....and yes he set himself up to fail for drama. I have no doubt whatsoever he was a massive douche intentionally. Doesn't sound like someone with people best interests at heart to me.

I bet you haven't even seen all the Revolution shows either, seen any of his interviews, or read anything on his website, otherwise you would have seen the compassionate, understanding, and down-to-earth side of him that reached out to people struggling with obesity. I watch a ton of cooking shows and honestly.....I have never seen him on except as like a guest once or twice. Why is it my responsibility to go out and track down and watch shows of his elsewhere? Do I need to listen to every single song released by Madonna to decide I don't like her music...at all? No, I listen to the ones I run into on the radio and judge from there. (just an example....love Madonna)

I'm siting here reading this thread and all it's doing is making me sad.

I actually like Jamie Oliver - go onto TED.com and type in his name and watch the speech he gave about the food crisis in America.

I'm married to a THIN chef and my husband is up on all the food theory and health science - what Mr. Oliver speaks about is absolutely correct.

Consider that 75% of every dollar spent on medical care in the US pays for chronic, diet-related disease (this can be found on the CDC and NIH sites).

The claim it's uninsured and illegals making costs soar ignores the fact that uninsured and illegals generally do NOT get care for chronic issues, only acute care.

The reality obscured by insurers who want mandated customers to profit from is that it is the majority of their CURRENT customers who have the *chronic* illnesses that come of bad diets - and why *should* someone with insurance take better care of their health - that's what the insurance is there for - do for them what they won't do on their own.. right?

Given that this translates to 75% of your soon-to-be-mandatory insurance premiums - perhaps we need to pay attention to what Jamie Oliver is saying.

As he said in his TED speech which I will paraphrase here - obesity *alone* costs 150 BILLION dollars a year and it is set to double in the coming decade and we do NOT have that kind of money.

(and what I recently found out also is that pediatric strokes in children 5-15 is up 35% in the past 5 years and the curve on new cases is starting to tick upwards. What's the lifetime cost for care when you're dealing with a 17 year old that's had a decade of diabetes and is obese and requires a triple-bypass? Who's paying for that?)

How much do you want to pay to cover the medical-care costs of those who see food as a way to abuse themselves?

In another two years, come the mandate for insurance. we're going to find out.

I'm glad I'm poor. I won't be paying into this fiasco.

Oliver, who is an international advocate for healthy eating, was in Australia this week to open his Ministry of Food school.…in an effort to promote healthy eating.

The foodie was asked by a reporter if he had gained a few pounds since his last trip Down Under .
