Urine is considered sterile immediately after it is expelled from the body but it can still serve as a medium for bacteria if it sits out for hours. (Exceptions would also be if there was a urinary tract infection.) As far as the consumption to save your life, it is still debatable. If you are needing to drink your urine to stay alive, you are probably already severely dehydrated and the water content in your concentrated urine will not be enough to really make a difference.
