Incest has long held a secure niche in porn. In early porn, unrelated models were often passed off as relatives. The coupling of Matt Ramsey (his debut) and Billy Gant as Cousins (1983) was hot but only mildly incestuous. It was more daring to cast models as brothers, such as Jon and J.W. King in Brothers Should Do It (1980) or Paul and Bobby Madison and Joe and Tim Hardy (who were boyfriends, though not brothers) in Brother Load (1983). All three of these are Catalina Video titles available in re-mastered DVD versions. Cousins and Brother Load are directed by William Higgins; Brothers Should Do It did not list a director but stated "in the William Higgins tradition."

Many studios cast real brothers, putting them together, but rarely interacting sexually; they only jerked off - or there was another model there for the sex. An exception is the 1979 J. Brian film, Incest/Brother Love, which featured two sets of twins, the Lee twins and the Christie twins, fucking and sucking. This feature was originally shot on film and later transferred to video and reissued as Brothers. It is still available on VHS from Bijou Video (www.bijouworld.com). The Christie twins tangled with each other in several other films, including 1980's Heavy Equipment.

There were also the identical O'Brian twins, Sean and Tim, who made two films for Toby Ross, also around 1980, in which they sucked and fucked. Of the two films, Duplicated is still available but Twins is out of print.

In the late 1990s, Men of Odyssey introduced Oscar and Gabriel, "the Odyssey twins," and Kristen Bjorn, in 1996, released Comrades in Arms, starring body-building identical twins Nicolai and Boris Otov. Though not twins, possibly the most famous real-life brothers in gay porn are the Rocklands - Vince, Hal and Shane - who made films for many studios before retiring, including the award-winning Gino Colbert production, Three Brothers (1998). But they never had any sexual contact onscreen.

Studio 2000 cast real brothers Cade and John Devilin (aka Devlin) in Cruising It. Cade and John pick up two surfers and go to a surf shack, where both brothers get the bejeesus fucked out of them. In 2000, William Higgins (directing as Wim Hof) cast identical twins Jirka and Karel Bartok in Double Czech, creating a crescendo of tantalizing eroticism that extends over several scenes, starting with mutual admiration, then touching and mutual j/o, then sucking and finally fucking. Double Czech has been transferred to DVD and is available as a director's cut, with incest footage fully intact, from TLA Video (www.tlavideo.com). The brilliant director Jerry Douglas added his own twist to brotherly love - twice! - in 1989's two-character film, Fratrimony and again in 1996, with Flesh & Blood, in which Kurt Young played identical twins. There's even a scene in which the twins have sex (Todd Stevens standing in for the twin and the viewer none the wiser).

Other films to feature brother sex, real or faux, include Brother Hustlers (HIS), Brother Trouble I and II (Catalina), Brotherly Love (Stallion) and The Brothers (Falcon). Real-life twins of contemporary porn include the Woods twins (Mark and Matt) and the Fisher twins (Alex and Alan), all of whom model for Miami Studios. Two identical Hungarian brothers have modeled under many names, including Jack and James Lacroix, Alex and Ian Lynch, Fabrizio and Fernando Mangiatti, Attila and Istvan Lenart, and Daniel and Jean Lautrec. That's practically a different name for each film.

Now, Athletic Model Guild has found a pair of identical Brazilian brothers, Caio and Carlos Carvalho, who are causing a small firestorm in the adult industry. They first appeared in Gàmeos, wrestling in the surf and kissing and rubbing their cocks together separated by a glass door. Their second film, Bronze, has them docking their cocks. In an interview in GayVN magazine, they suggest that their offscreen relationship goes much further, with Carlos telling the interviewer, "I don't think it's even legal to say." Director Dennis Bell has promised viewers the future productions with the Carvalho brothers "will more accurately reflect their real-life coupling."

As tantalizing as it is to see real brothers onscreen, no director since Higgins has dared to depict any sexual shenanigans between them. But we can always hope.
