It may give the illusion of everything looking "bigger" but only because half of it isn't hidden in the hair. Generally though, you have what you have and hairy, or hairless, it's still there.

I read somewhere--don't remember where, maybe even here sometime--that shaving is indicative of the obsession gay guys have with appearing young. I don't know about that, but maybe there's something to it. Looking prepubescent might make the guy feel like he's returning to a younger, more innocent stage of his life.

I only shave my balls and do it at the sink after I shaved my face with the same Gillette disposable razor, but don't use an one from the day before. It must always be new and the blades sharp. Then first wet you balls. I try to use colder water so the balls react an get cold and firm. Then shaving cream (any kind will do from a can) Then shave away....Stand and try one foot up on the sink so you can look in the mirror and shave undernieth. I like to do around my ass only between my cheeks. I leave all my pubic hair in place....Sometimes I trim it low...I don't like a wild hairy bush....When done, my balls feel clean and smooth as a baby's ass and they are very sensitive. No cuts and I have been doing this for 15 to 20 years.....Oddly, my wife has never asked me if I ever shaved my balls. She just thinks that is how they are....I love that too.

I'm surprised so many people have issues with itching. I've been shaving for years and have never had a problem with it. I think it has a lot to do with using the wrong products or shaving methods. I use a simple Mach 3 razor with gel shaving cream. I don't think the conventional shaving cream works well. Also, make sure you're not shaving top-to-bottom on your balls. You always want to shave up, from under the balls, to the penis. A good rule of thumb to avoid bumps is: if you're shaving above the penis, shave down; shaving below the penis, shave up. You should avoid shaving bumps and itching that way. If you shave often enough (I do it weekly, I'd say), you'll run into less problems. If you're doing it for the first time in a long time, I'd recommend trimming the hair shorter first, as long hair is harder to shave.
