How much are you paying for a gallon of gas? Today I paid $2.45 for regular unleaded. That's 60 cents more than I was paying just 6 months ago.

I work as a repair plumber, which means that I'm in my truck most of the day. I went to fill up my truck today and discovered that I had to pay 14 more cents per gallon than I paid on Monday.

My business has slowed down so much that it's getting pretty frightening. I know that there's work out there, but no one is calling. When it comes to putting food in their mouths, and gas in the car, people are learning to live with dripping faucets, stopped up commodes, and no hot water.

But hey! Bush says that we've got a great economy, so it must be true.

(For my fellow friends here in JUB that don't live in the U.S., I know that y'all probably pay more than we do, but this hasn't been a gradual increase it's been in 10 cent increments, for weeks now. My pay hasn't increased to keep up with it, and in fact I've been losing business because everyone else is in the same boat is myself.)

Monday: I got paid and decided to fill up. Price was $2.259 but the place I go was very busy, so I decided I'd do it later.

Tuesday: Well I forgot until I was coming home from work but noticed the price was $2.299.

Wednesday: When I finally got around to fueling up, the price I paid for regular unleaded was $2.399.

Wednesday night: When I was leaving work, the price was back down to $2.299.

Thursday night: After work, the thing was back to $2.399!!

Friday: Sister came home and reported $2.479 today.

This is not a good time to manage a gas station. Before I left work today I raised the price to $2.65 for unleaded. I feel like I need a bullet proof vest when I go out to change the sign.

BTW, it is extra hard on me as I live 30 miles from work and have to pay full price.

A friend of mine owns a Chevron here in town, and he says that they make about a penny a gallon; the rest of the money pays the tax and pays for the gasoline. All the profit is in the food inside. Plus, you have to sell so may gallons to break even when someone drives off without paying.

Here in Melbourne it's currently about AUD 1.20 per litre.

I think that's about USD 0.92 per litre.

I think it's about 1:3.8 to convert litres to US gallons so I think we're paying about 3.50 - which is still much cheaper than most Western countries.

About 18 months ago we were paying 20% less than we're paying today.

The average price in the UK is 94p/litre. It has risen by about 15p/litre in the last 12 months. 75% of that goes into Brown's back pocket.

I guess I shouldn't complain about paying $2.79 a gallon the other
day. That is the highest I believe I have ever paid for gasoline.

Of course the next day it took me over 2 1/2 hours to drive about 7 miles to get to my home. There was a major accident on the frwy. It was closed. Guess where all those cars end up going - of course on to the major surface streets. Traffic is bad in Los Angeles but I have never experienced anything like last Thurs. What a nightmare. Yet people managed to be very polite when letting other people get in front of them. I would never have thought we could be that polite, but we were. Miracles happen every day.

Gasoline is much more expensive in Europe, but that doesn't mean a large percentage increase in the U.S. isn't devastating to an economy based on cheap oil. We pay much more in Canada than in the U.S. but the difference is all in taxes, as the underlying commodity costs the same on both sides of the border (subject to small differences in transportation costs).

This jump in gas prices will eventually work its way down to everything we buy, as the costs of trucking, heating oil, and manufacturing go up. It's a bit of a scary proposition... especially since almost no one thinks the price will go back down anytime soon.

It cost me well over $80 CAN to fill my vehicle the other day with premium... which was the highest I've ever paid by far.

None of this is cheap. That's the problem. Two years ago I was bitching about paying $1.799. Today, I'd gladly pay that as compared to $2.479! And have you noticed how the refineries are blowing up with regularity every 2-3 months? Hmm. Smells like a conspiracy to me. Or maybe I'm just pissed the hell off about paying an ungodly amount of money to get to school/work and back every day. How much per gallon are we paying in fuel taxes? Why are we paying record high prices when we're "staying the course" in one of the most oil-rich countries in the world?

I paid $2.05 on Friday and $2.10 today. I filled up as I have been told not to expect to pay that price again as a hike is on the way. I saw gas North of Columbus where I live for $2.67. $3 by fall will be a reality I'm told.

I'm very concerned as well, I travel 70 miles round trip to work 5-6 days a week. My yearly raise disappeared 2 fill ups ago. The US lags behind the rest of the world (especially Europe) in developing and using alternate fuel sources. I'm afraid we are about to pay the price.

North Central Florida, $2.54 this morning, $2.68 this evening (low grade). Almost $3.00 for premium grade. Expected to continue to rise so that low grade is $3.00 before the end of the year. This is an atrocity against working people. Not to mention completely without foresight into the dependency of virtually the entire economy on petroleum products and fossil fuel.

The other day I gassed up the car. $2.37 per gallon... With what I already had in the tank, that came out to $24 and change. I know its a little cheaper here (Thursday/Friday last week in Houston, gas was $2.45 per gallon), but when you haven't seen a pay raise in more than 2 years (they have to be voted upon by the legislature) this is a nasty cost of living reality.

Of course I blame "W" for this. But then, I blame the ache in my knee to him and anything else that strikes my ire these days. He's a very convenient scape-goat!

It's around $2.50 here though it might have gone up the past couple days, I'm not sure. I remember when $20 would fill up my Corrolla, now it takes like $27. I feel sorry for all the people who drive SUV's and Suburbans. And come to think of it, I don't think I have seen that many on the road lately....

It's costs me over $50 to fill up my tank(car). And it's been that way for a while I remember when I was younger riding in my mom's car, and gas prices were only 52 cents/litre, and it was around $30 to fill the tank. Oh, how I dream for prices like that. I just hope it goes down from $1.06/litre... but they say that by Christmas it'll be up to $1.40 a litre here...

You made a pounds to dollars conversion. Ok, fine. BUT, how much does the average UK citizen make per year in pounds?

Your $6.17 a gallon, for example, is 3.42 pounds.gallon.

Is a briton spending 3.42 pounds "feel" the same to them as an American spending $3.42 per gallon? Prices in some areas are now above $3. Is this the same "hit" to the wallet?

This morning, as I drove to work, the gas was 2.549/gallon .. left work, drove home, and it was 2.639/gallon ... heard something on tv (weather channel or CNN) that with the hurricane in Louisiana/Mississippi, there was a halt in oil production from the rigs there, and that gas prices would likely rise 10 cents or so ... I got some gas today, hopefully it doesn't go up more, but would rather get it now rather than when it hits 3.009
