Right now I must think of "Haven" from our beloved The_Pianist "Geri".....
Never forget...how I started to cry in front of my PC while hearing this wonderful piece of music...
Fast Car by Tracy Chapman
Not only are the words sad, but the melody is very haunting.
You look like a perfect fit/ For a girl in need of a tourniquet/ But can you save me/ Come on and save me
If you could save me/ From the ranks of the freaks/ Who suspect they could never love anyone - Aimee Mann "Save Me"
Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday
Seven trees
Bearin’ strange fruit
Blood on the leaves
And blood at the roots
Black bodies
Swinging in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hangin’
From the poplar trees
Pastoral scene
Of the gallant south
Them big bulging eyes
And the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolia
Clean and fresh
Then the sudden smell
Of burnin’ flesh
Here is a fruit
For the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather
For the wind to suck
For the sun to rot
For the leaves to drop
Here is
Strange and bitter crop
As singed by billie holiday
Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.
Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.
Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter cry.
many songs from nick cave *sigh*
Check out my very own Body Hair Lovers and Photography Groups!
I also deal with tough times with sad music. It almost inspires me. I dont think that makes sense, but it works!
One of my all time favorite sad songs is Breakdown by Mariah Carey
"Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself."*Leo Tolstoy
Everything Will Be All Right - the Killers.
I cannot leave here, I cannot stay
Forever haunted, more than afraid
Asphyxiate on words I would say
I'm drawn to a blackened sky as I turn blue
There are no flowers, no, not this time
There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find
I'd show a smile but I'm too weak
I'd share for you, could I only speak, just how much this hurts me
I cannot stay here, I cannot leave
Just like all I loved, I'm make believe
Imagined heart, I disappear
Seems... no one will appear here and make me real
There are no flowers, no, not this time
There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find
I'd show a smile but I'm too weak
I'd share with you, could I only speak, just how much this hurts me
I'd tell you how it haunts me
I'd tell you how it haunts me
Cuts through my day and sinks into my dreams
I'd tell you how it haunts me
Cuts through my day and sinks into my dreams
You don't care that it haunts me
There are no flowers, no, not this time
There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find
I'd show a smile but I'm too weak
I'd share with you, could I only speak, just how much this hurts me
Just how much this hurts me
Just how much you...
AFI - This Time Imperfect
Fade to black by Metallica
Life it seems will fade away,
Drifting farther everyday.
Getting lost within myself,
nothing matter noone else.
I have lost the will to live.
Simply nothing more to give.
There is nothing more for me,
I need the end to set me free.
Things aren't what they used to be.
I'm missing one inside of me.
Deathly loss, this can't be real.
I cannot stand this hell I feel.
Emptiness is filling me,
to the point of agony.
Growing darkness taking dawn.
Yeah I was me but now he's gone.
No one but me can save myself,
but it's too late.
Now I can't think,
Think why I should even try, who knows?
Yesterday seems as though it never existed,
but death greets me warm.
Now I will just say goodbye...Goodbye.![]()
This song drove multiple people through the world to suicide.

Blink 182-Adam's Song. For a while I used to listen to the song and never pay attention to the lyrics until one day I did and I realized what a sad song it was.
I think "My My Hey Hey" by Neil Young is very sad cos I always think of the tragic suicide of Cobain. Almost makes you feel suicidal
I think "Heroes" is really sad as it's about a couple expressing their love in a repressive communist regime. They get shot later on in the song. Bowie's vocals have never sounded better or more desperate than before. Brian Eno's influence in this song is perfect with the synthesisers.
"I CAN'T MAKE YOU LOVE ME" -- Bonnie Raitt
There are so many sad songs. I seem to gravitate toward them. Right now, it's a song on the Annie Lennox CD "Bare". It's called "Oh God (Prayer).
Oh God
Where are you now
And what are you gonna do
About the mess I've made
If there was ever a soul to save
It must be me
It must be me
Dear God
Oh how can I survive
Will I make this drop, this dive
When it all comes to this
I'm looking down at a big abyss
Where you don't exist
You don't exist.
But if you hear me
If you can see me
I know I can't be that strong
Cause everything I ever did went wrong
Everything I ever did
Went wrong
Oh God
Now where do I come in?
Gone and broken everything
So I hope you understand
Someone needed a helping hand
It must be now
It must be now
This song wrenches me everytime I hear it. It's almost tangible sadness makes my heart sink.
the intermezzo from Callaveria Rusticana, by Mascagni
"The Rose" by Bette Midler. It's a beautiful song, but when bartending I saw it really bring down the mood in the bar everytime it was played on the juke box.
I second that. I love that song, but it's very depressing. It's so powerful, and the way she sings it, OMG. It's definetely a quality song.Originally Posted by SomethingBlue
olk old song called "Blowin' in the Wind".
"The answer my friend, is blowin in the wind, the answer is blowin in the wind".
"Picture" by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow always makes me sad.![]()
this woman's work by kate bush
Its a toss up between Gladys Knights" Sorry Doesn"t Always Make it Right" It starts off kinda like somewhere over the rainbow, but changes into a masterpiece after the eighth bar. "Baby there's no easy way to here the words I'm sorry , I don't love you..... Or the other one is Larry Gatlins "The Heart". This was from his first album, when he was a hungry young artist. ...I know I had it happen to me time and time again, and it feels like being turned down by your one and only friend. So don't fool yourself by saying that it won"t hurt the pain ain't real. So easy to hurt, but oh so hard to heal...![]()

I think one of the saddest I have ever heard was not really a song as such.
Its a work by Barber called Adaggio for Strings. Whenever I hear that it just makes me totally sad. Its a great piece tho, just very sad.
As a second, I would have to pick Go rest high on that mountain, by Vince Gill.
I heard that one night while I was talking to the bf of one of my friends. I had just been informed that he had been attacked and nearly killed, just for being gay. His bf was telling me about this, that song started to paly, and I was a bawling wreck.
Can't Cry Hard Enough by Williams Brothers (revived by Bellefire)
as well as Bridge Over Troubled Waters by Simon and Garfunkel
- they both remind me of my cousin who died of leukemia... her favorite songs
Tracy Chapman's fast car is an obvious pickAnother one I like is
Roy Orbison - Crying,

or the spanish version on Mulholland Drive:

Tori Amos - 1000 Oceans
Tori Amos - Winter
Sarah McLaughlin - Angel
Dido - White Flag
Mariah Carey - My All
Also, for some reason, a lot of love songs depress me, such as Monica's "Angel of Mine" and things like that. I'm not sure why, really....

"These are the Days of Our Lives" by Queen - resleased just after Fred died.....
two songs by barbra streisand: "some good things never last" and "with one more look at you". the latter one is makes me cry though.
Just like Japanese Porn. Weird but Hot.
too many to mention. right now I am listening to My Chemical Romance's "Ghost of you" and that one's "sad" too. one of the best songs on their album.
I would say for me it has to be Memories from Andrew Lloyd Weber.
"Midnight, not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory?
She is smiling alone
In the lamplight the withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan
Memory, all alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
I was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again
Every street lamp seems to beat
A fatalistic warning
Someone mutters and a street lamp gutters
And soon it will be morning
Daylight, I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life
And I mustn't give in
When the dawn comes tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin
Burnt out ends of smoky days
The stale cold smell of morning
The street lamp dies, another night is over
Another day is dawning
Touch me, it's so easy to leave me
All alone with the memory
Of my days in the sun
If you touch me, you'll understand what happiness is
Look, a new day has begun"
Especially this part...
"Daylight, I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life
And I mustn't give in
When the dawn comes tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin
Burnt out ends of smoky days
The stale cold smell of morning
The street lamp dies, another night is over
Another day is dawning"
The reason is that my mother died on A Sunday morning just as the sun was rising.

I cried wathing Patty Labelle doing her own version of the song "If you Love Me" on her PBS concert special called "One Night Only"
it was the most amazing vocal concert that I have ever seen in my life..I cried multiple times, this woman in my opinion is the greatest living singer...
great picks hella,we have a similiar taste in music -does anyone know where i find the bright eyes' song "it's ok-we can be friends?"-the title of the song is already great.in germany, older records from the saddle-creek-gang are hard to find.
Yes I remember that. They mentioned it while they were sniffing glue and talking about the guy's gay brother.Originally Posted by hella

Bjork - Scatterheart
Ani difranco - Sorry I am
Fiona Apple - Never is a Promise
PJ Harvey - Is that all there is
The saddest songs i have heard are the following:
''My Immortal'', Evanescence
''Listen to your Heart'', D.H.T.
I'm so tired of being here
suppresed by all my childish fears
and if you have to leave
i wish you would just leave
cause your presence still lingers here
and it wont seem to leave me alone
these wounds wont seem to heel
this pain is just to real
there's just to much that time cannot erase
When you cried i'd wipe a way all of your tears
When you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears
And i held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
You used to captivate me
By your responating light
But now i'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me
these wounds wont seem to heal
this pain is just to real
there's just to much that time cannot erase
when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears
when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears
and i've held your hand through all of these years
but you still have all of me
I've tried so hard to tell myself that your gone
And though you still with me
I've been alone all along
When you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I've held your hand through all of these years but you still have
all of me
Buy the evanesence album and experience for yourself
Evanescence:Fallen
all done on piano
May it be with Enya.. Cant count all the times i cried to that song.
Carnival Town with Norah Jones always gets me in a sad mood;
Round 'n round
Carousel
Has got you under it's spell
Moving so fast...but
Going nowhere
Up 'n down
Ferris wheel
Tell me how does it feel
To be so high...
Looking down here
Is it lonely?
Lonely
Lonely
Did the clown
Make you smile
He was only your fool for a while
Now he's gone back home
And left you wandering there
Is it lonely?
Lonely
Lonely
Norah Jones gives me the chills everytime I hear her.
if by Bread
and there is this country song, im not a big country song fan but at the time of my life that this song came out, it really got to me. I think it might be Alen Jackson. it was so sad and about him loosing the person he loved and at the same time was happy for them having someone new, because the person he loved happyness was more improtant than his, it really got to me, because someone that loves you that much, wow, I have loved that much and just dream that someday someone will love me that way.
Family Portrait - Pink
My immortal - Evanescence
and enya's songs
I keep asking myself, wondering how I keep closing my eyes but I can't block you out, Wanna fly to a place where it's just you and me Nobody else so we can be free...
