I can't remember the name of the song. It's country and i thought the name was "wait'n on joe" but i can't find it via goolge. It makes me cry every time i hear it. so i have to turn it now.

it's about a guy and his brother who is always late for contrustion jobs. And he's made cause his brother is late again. But he hears sirens soon and turns out joe ran a rail road crossing to try and be on time but is hit and killed.

Re: saddest song you ever heard?

There's this one song called "Best I Can" by the Chris Perez Band. This one really breaks my heart. Chris Perez was the husband of Tejano music star, Selena. For those who don't know, she was shot to death by the president of her fan club. Chris was the guitarist in her band, Los Dinos. "Best I Can" was written about his deceased wife.

When I thought I had your heart to keep forever.
(Forever)
Now I live with how it is, nothing lasts, never.
(Never)
I'm never in a place with too much time, try to leave my troubles far behind.
Everything I did, I did for you.
Now there's nothing left for me to do.
I'm never gonna fall in love again, the way I love you.

You know it's so damn hard letting go...

Standing here, holding my heart in my hands
Yes, I am...
Trying to live every day the best I can.
You know it's so damn hard letting go...of you.

Every day's a brand new start of a pain never ending.
(Never ending)
I can't erase this lonely heart that keeps on remembering.
(Remembering)
Every day I live, I live with you, and with all the things we'll never do.
Heaven holds a place for souls like mine.
Try to leave my troubled past behind.

You know it's so damn hard letting go...

Standing here, holding my heart in my hands
Yes, I am...
Trying to live every day the best I can.
You know it's so damn hard letting go (so damn hard letting go)
You know it's so damn hard letting go...of you.

You can see the video and hear the song for yourself...

This one always makes me cry.

"Where've You Been?"

Claire had all but given up~
When she and Edwin fell in love~
She touched his face and shook her head~
In disbelief she sighed and said,
"In many dreams I've held you near
Now at last you're really here."

"Where've you been?
I've looked for you forever and a day~
Where've you been?
I'm just not myself when you're away."

He asked her for her hand for life~
And she became a salesman's wife~
He was home each night by eight~
But one stormy evening he was late~
Her frightened tears fell to the floor~
Until his key turned in the door.

"Where've you been?
I've looked for you forever and a day.
Where've you been?
I'm just not myself when you're away."

They never spent a night apart~
For sixty years she heard him snore~
Now they're in a hospital~
In separate beds on different floors.
Claire soon lost her memory~
Forgot the names of family~
She never spoke a word again~
Then one day they wheeled him in.
He held her hand and stroked her head~
In a fragile voice she said, "Where've you been?
I've looked for you forever and a day.
Where've you been?
I'm just not myself when you're away."

I'd like to add anything by Antony & the Johnsons.

"Cripple & the Starfish"
Mr. Muscle forcing bursting
Stingy thingy into little me, me, me
But just "ripple" said the cripple
As my jaw dropped to the ground
Smile smile

It's true I always wanted love to be
Hurtful
And it's true I always wanted love to be
Filled with pain
And bruises

Yes, so Cripple-Pig was happy
Screamed " I just compeletely love you!
And there's no rhyme or reason
I'm changing like the seasons
Watch! I'll even cut off my finger
It will grow back like a Starfish!
It will grow back like a Starfish!
It will grow back like a Starfish!"

Mr. Muscle, gazing boredly
And he checking time did punch me
And I sighed and bleeded like a windfall
Happy bleedy, happy bruisy

I am very happy
So please hit me
I am very happy
So please hurt me

I am very happy
So please hit me
I am very very happy
So come on hurt me

I'll grow back like a Starfish
I'll grow back like a Starfish
I'll grow back like a Starfish
I'll grow back like a Starfish

An old standard that gets me is Peggy Lee's version of "Is That All There Is?".
Another real oldie "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" by Hank Williams.
More contemporary "Candle In The Wind" and the revised tribute to Princess Diana.

Goodbye - The Corrs

I never thought one day you'd be gone
Away forever more
No one can say, no one could explain
Why you were taken
Oh, where are you now?
Could I get there somehow?

It's time to say "goodbye"
Block out the sun and pack up the sky
Don't let my tears start to make you cry
Each time I try to say my goodbyes
Try to stop asking "why?"

Tell me it's true, tell me there's something more
Another time for love
One day I'll know, one day I'll be there
Will you be waiting
Oh, where you are now?
Could I get there somehow?

It's time to say "goodbye"
Block out the sun and pack up the sky
Don't let my tears start to make you cry
Each time I try to say my goodbye
Try to stop asking "why?"

Why...

Oh, where are you now?
Could I get there somehow?

It's time to say "goodbye"
Block out the sun and pack up the sky
Don't let my tears start to make you cry
Each time I try to say my goodbye
Try to stop asking "why?"

Why...
Try to say my goodbye...
Why...
Someone asked me once how I could know that I'm gay if I've never slept with a woman. I've never shoved shards of glass into my eye, either, but I don't have to give it a shot to know that it's not for me.

Hey, I may be young, but that's a CLASSIC...

How 'bout Puff The Magic Dragon?

So sad that boys grow up, hmm...

"A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giants's rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So, Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave, oh..."

Everyone should try listening to Cary Brothers - Blue Eyes, it has appeared on several TV programmes and films so some may be familiar with it.

Something else entirely new is a japanese metal song, Dir en grey - The Final (personal meaning). Don't bother looking for the translated lyrics first, listen first. It is tragic and very sad. It should make you feel more than saddened...

Leo Sayer had a pretty good sad song... "Sad Eyes"

"Sad eyes turn the other way
I don't wanna see you cry
Sad eyes you knew there'd come a day
When we would have to say goodbye.."

Kills me... cause I really did love the guy!

Re: saddest song you ever heard?

My younger brother was living in Miami a few years ago (spring of 1999) and in the final stages of lymphatic cancer. This was a few days before he was confined to his wheelchair but he was pretty weak so wherever we went I had his wheelchair close by. We were out on South Beach one morning where Sugar Ray was getting ready to shoot the video for "Someday." I got Matty as close as I could to the stage and we sat and watched as they went through several 'takes' of the song and the video before they were done. Afterwards all five of the guys in the band came down and hung out with Matt and myself for a few minutes before they had to leave. If you've ever had a copy of the single "Someday," you'll find in the liner notes the song is dedicated to 'Matthew Patrick.'

I was always (and still am) having the occaisional bouts of depression and it always seemed as though everyone else I knew or was related to wandered off at about that time. Matt was always there for me and so over time I guess he became sort of my 'hero' for lack of a better term. No matter if I seemingly hit bottom he was literally by my side.

As Matt got progressively worse I started singing "Someday" to him and I guess if there were to ever be a song I could of ever came up with for him that would of been the one. It was just the right thing at the right time. I still can't not hear the song and get teary-eyed.

Someday, when my life has passed me by, I lay around and wonder why you were always there for me.
One way, in the eyes of a passerby, I look around for another try and fade away.
Just close your eyes and I'll take you there, this place is warm without a care,
we'll take a swim in the deep blue sea, I go to leave and you reach for me.

Someday, better things will come our way, no matter what they try to say, you were always there for me.

Someway, when the sun begins to shine, I hear a song from another time and fade away and fade away. Just close your eyes and I'll take you there, this place is warm, without a care. We'll take a swim in the deep blue sea, I go to leave and you reach for me.

Someone said you tried too long, someone said we got it all. Someone said we tried too long, is there a place where I belong? So far, so long, so far away, so far, so wrong, so far away.

Someday, when my life has passed me by, I lay around and wonder why you were always there for me. One way, in the eyes of a passerby, I look around for another try and fade away and fade away.

For me the ultimate sad song is "Amazing Grace," especially as sung by Jessye Norman.

Everytime It Rains - Ace Of Base

I see dark clouds out my window
I know the storm is coming any minute
And the thunder just confirms my fears
And I know that tears are in it
I'll be crying, unable to stop
Look, here comes the very first drop

'Cause everytime it rains
I fall to pieces
So many memories the rain releases
I feel you, I taste you
I cannot forget
Everytime it rains, I get wet

Darling, I am still in love with you
As time passes by, it just intensifies
I know I'll never be with you again
I'll never find another with that kindness in his eyes
I'll be trying, unable to stop
Look, here comes the very first drop

'Cause everytime it rains
I fall to pieces
So many memories the rain releases
I feel you, I taste you
I cannot forget
Everytime it rains, I get wet

On sunny days, I'm alright
I walk in the light
And I try to think about the love I live without

But everytime it rains
I fall to pieces
So many memories the rain releases
I feel you, I taste you
I cannot forget
Everytime it rains, I get wet...
Someone asked me once how I could know that I'm gay if I've never slept with a woman. I've never shoved shards of glass into my eye, either, but I don't have to give it a shot to know that it's not for me.

The song that makes me burst out into hysterics when I hear it (and fortunately, I only hear it during the holidays) is the "Christmas Shoes" song. The radio station Warm 106.9 in Seattle generally plays soft music but they play Christmas music after
Thanksgiving, and every so often, the Christmas Shoes song comes on. It always gets me. In fact, it's the only song that has ever made me cry. No movie has made my cry, by the way, haha.

Saddest song I can think of is Tori Amos' "Gold Dust" from her "Scarlet's Walk" album. A beautiful song filled with THE MOST gorgeous piano, the lyrics are about holding something so beautiful but only ever realizing it's beauty after it's gone. (That's what it means to me anyway.)

Bright Eyes - Padraic My Prince

i had a brother once
he drowned in a bathtub before he had ever learned how to talk
and i don’t know what his name was but my mother does
i heard her say it once, padriac my prince i have all but died from the
sheer weight of my shame. you cried but no one came and the water filled your
tiny lungs. appear, my dear, and cry for me. it was six years ago today that
i laid you in your grave, your sweet young skin was shining then too.
and so tonight to celebrate i will poison myself.
another coughing, shaking fit in a bathroom that is spinning.
so i close the door and i rest my head on the tile floor,
sickness and sleep turning me cold.
and i am still not sure, is there some better place i could be heading towards?
where the selfishly sick and self absorbed are welcome.
i saw the future once.
i was drunk in a phone booth.
my eyes were wet and red but i could not tell what was said
and through the screams of the traffic voices carried saying
i am sorry
on a day so gray its black inside
watching churches on tv
in a coma you don’t dream you just hope that someone sits with you
babies turn blue when they are ignored like the sky on summer days
before you turn and walk away it has changed you
so tonight to compensate i will poison myself
another coughing, shaking fit in a bathroom that is spinning.
( give in to curiosity. )
It's all you'll ever know.

I'm not sure what the name of the song is but it's by Alanis Morissette. It's on her Jagged Little Pill album the bonus song at the end of Wake Up... I remember the first time I heard i listened to it, it stopped me in my tracks and by the end of it I was bawling. Granted I had just had the worst experience with a guy something i'm still dealing with. But from then on whenever i'm sad and missing him I play that song and cry. It sounds sad I know but it's a good form of release.

If anyone knows the name of the song let me know. I would love to finally put a name to it.

hey Juan...track 13 (last one after Wake up...is not listed on cd jacket) I think is an extended version of You Oughta Know...at the end she sings acappella ...I went to your house...i shouldn't be hear...would you forgive me love...if i cry in your shower....etc... still listed on my display as track 13. You Oughta Know is also track 2 on cd...but not extended.

i 'm not sure if i ever paid attention to that before...didn't sound familiar... good choice for this thread though.

Yeah that's the song! I got confused because on the acoustic cd of Jagged Little Pill it's the bonus song to Wake Up, but on the original release it comes after Your Oughta Know. Either way I love the song. I also get really sad when I hear the song from the soundtrack to Baz Luhrman Romeo and Juliet. Kissing You by Des'ree it also gets me choked up every time.

I love your signature that picture is so sweet and erotic.

"Parce mihi domine" from Officium - Sacred Motet with improvisational soprano saxophone.

Everytime I hear it, it brings me to tears and ever since I found the translation to the lyrics the song has become even more moving.

"For Queer as Folk" fans, I think this is the same song used during the last episode of season 1 when the character, Justin get's beaten half to death by a fellow student.

Latin:

Parce mihi Domine

Peccavi, quid faciem tibi, о custos hominum?
Quare posuisti me contrarium tibi, et factus sum mihimetipsi gravis?
Cur non tollis peccatum meum, et quare non aufers iniquitatem meam?
Ecce, nunc in pulvere dormian, et si mane me quaesieris, non subsistam.

English Translation:

Spare me, Lord, for my days are as nothing.
What is Man, that you should make so much of us?
Or why should you set your heart upon us?
You visit us at dawn,
and put us to the test at any moment.
Will you not spare me and let me be,
while I swallow my saliva?
If I have sinned, how have I hurt you,
O guardian of mankind?
Why have you set me up as your target,
so that I am now a burden to myself?
Why do you not forgive my sin
and why do you not take away my guilt?
Behold, I shall now lie down in the dust:
if you come looking for me I shall have ceased to exist.

I think that it's the saddest song ever written, and to ever be written...especially since it was voted number three of the songs that changed the world (the other two were kinda peppy)

Strange Fruit -Billie Holiday.
