Everytime It Rains - Ace Of Base

I see dark clouds out my window
I know the storm is coming any minute
And the thunder just confirms my fears
And I know that tears are in it
I'll be crying, unable to stop
Look, here comes the very first drop

'Cause everytime it rains
I fall to pieces
So many memories the rain releases
I feel you, I taste you
I cannot forget
Everytime it rains, I get wet

Darling, I am still in love with you
As time passes by, it just intensifies
I know I'll never be with you again
I'll never find another with that kindness in his eyes
I'll be trying, unable to stop
Look, here comes the very first drop

'Cause everytime it rains
I fall to pieces
So many memories the rain releases
I feel you, I taste you
I cannot forget
Everytime it rains, I get wet

On sunny days, I'm alright
I walk in the light
And I try to think about the love I live without

But everytime it rains
I fall to pieces
So many memories the rain releases
I feel you, I taste you
I cannot forget
Everytime it rains, I get wet...
Someone asked me once how I could know that I'm gay if I've never slept with a woman. I've never shoved shards of glass into my eye, either, but I don't have to give it a shot to know that it's not for me.

The song that makes me burst out into hysterics when I hear it (and fortunately, I only hear it during the holidays) is the "Christmas Shoes" song. The radio station Warm 106.9 in Seattle generally plays soft music but they play Christmas music after
Thanksgiving, and every so often, the Christmas Shoes song comes on. It always gets me. In fact, it's the only song that has ever made me cry. No movie has made my cry, by the way, haha.

Saddest song I can think of is Tori Amos' "Gold Dust" from her "Scarlet's Walk" album. A beautiful song filled with THE MOST gorgeous piano, the lyrics are about holding something so beautiful but only ever realizing it's beauty after it's gone. (That's what it means to me anyway.)

Bright Eyes - Padraic My Prince

i had a brother once
he drowned in a bathtub before he had ever learned how to talk
and i don’t know what his name was but my mother does
i heard her say it once, padriac my prince i have all but died from the
sheer weight of my shame. you cried but no one came and the water filled your
tiny lungs. appear, my dear, and cry for me. it was six years ago today that
i laid you in your grave, your sweet young skin was shining then too.
and so tonight to celebrate i will poison myself.
another coughing, shaking fit in a bathroom that is spinning.
so i close the door and i rest my head on the tile floor,
sickness and sleep turning me cold.
and i am still not sure, is there some better place i could be heading towards?
where the selfishly sick and self absorbed are welcome.
i saw the future once.
i was drunk in a phone booth.
my eyes were wet and red but i could not tell what was said
and through the screams of the traffic voices carried saying
i am sorry
on a day so gray its black inside
watching churches on tv
in a coma you don’t dream you just hope that someone sits with you
babies turn blue when they are ignored like the sky on summer days
before you turn and walk away it has changed you
so tonight to compensate i will poison myself
another coughing, shaking fit in a bathroom that is spinning.
( give in to curiosity. )
It's all you'll ever know.

I'm not sure what the name of the song is but it's by Alanis Morissette. It's on her Jagged Little Pill album the bonus song at the end of Wake Up... I remember the first time I heard i listened to it, it stopped me in my tracks and by the end of it I was bawling. Granted I had just had the worst experience with a guy something i'm still dealing with. But from then on whenever i'm sad and missing him I play that song and cry. It sounds sad I know but it's a good form of release.

If anyone knows the name of the song let me know. I would love to finally put a name to it.

hey Juan...track 13 (last one after Wake up...is not listed on cd jacket) I think is an extended version of You Oughta Know...at the end she sings acappella ...I went to your house...i shouldn't be hear...would you forgive me love...if i cry in your shower....etc... still listed on my display as track 13. You Oughta Know is also track 2 on cd...but not extended.

i 'm not sure if i ever paid attention to that before...didn't sound familiar... good choice for this thread though.
Bad decisions make good stories.

Re: saddest song you ever heard?

Yeah that's the song! I got confused because on the acoustic cd of Jagged Little Pill it's the bonus song to Wake Up, but on the original release it comes after Your Oughta Know. Either way I love the song. I also get really sad when I hear the song from the soundtrack to Baz Luhrman Romeo and Juliet. Kissing You by Des'ree it also gets me choked up every time.

I love your signature that picture is so sweet and erotic.

"Parce mihi domine" from Officium - Sacred Motet with improvisational soprano saxophone.

Everytime I hear it, it brings me to tears and ever since I found the translation to the lyrics the song has become even more moving.

"For Queer as Folk" fans, I think this is the same song used during the last episode of season 1 when the character, Justin get's beaten half to death by a fellow student.

Latin:

Parce mihi Domine

Peccavi, quid faciem tibi, о custos hominum?
Quare posuisti me contrarium tibi, et factus sum mihimetipsi gravis?

English Translation:

Spare me, Lord, for my days are as nothing.
What is Man, that you should make so much of us?
Or why should you set your heart upon us?
You visit us at dawn,
and put us to the test at any moment.
Will you not spare me and let me be,
while I swallow my saliva?
If I have sinned, how have I hurt you,
O guardian of mankind?
Why have you set me up as your target,
so that I am now a burden to myself?
Why do you not forgive my sin
and why do you not take away my guilt?
Behold, I shall now lie down in the dust:
if you come looking for me I shall have ceased to exist.

I think that it's the saddest song ever written, and to ever be written...especially since it was voted number three of the songs that changed the world (the other two were kinda peppy)

On that same tone, integralgonzo, I tear up everytime when I hear Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying".

I hate going fishing. My Dad loves to fish. But I tear up, think about my own Dad, and nearly want to ask him to go everytime I hear:

And all the sudden going fishin
Wasn't such an imposition
And I went three times that year I lost my dad

Ae Fond Kiss
Written in 1791 by Robert Burns as sung by Scottish pop/folk singer Edie Reader.

Ae(one) fond kiss, and then we sever;
Ae Fareweel, alas, for ever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.

Who shall say that Fortune grieves him,
While the star of hope she leaves him?
Me nae(no) cheerful twinkle lights me;
Dark despair around benights me.

I'll never blame my partial fancy,
Nothing can resist my Nancy:
For to see her was to love her;
Love but her and Love for ever.

Had we never loved sae(so) kindly,
Had we never loved sae blindly,
Nor never met - nor never parted,
We would never have been sae broken-hearted.

Fare-thee-weel, my first and fairest
Fare-thee-weel, my best and dearest
Thine be ilka(every) joy and treasure,
Peace, Enjoyment, Love and Pleasure!

Ae fond kiss, and then we sever
Ae fareweel alas, for ever
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.

A couple of other people already mentioned Kate Bush's "A Womans work" and "Under the Ivy".

Years ago while waiting for the Vet to come to the house to put my old dog to sleep I was listening to Linda Ronstadt's "Goodbye old friend"... ...still can't hear that song without tears welling up......

Song to the Siren - This Mortal Coil
Under the Ivy - Kate Bush
When it's Cold - Moby
Time - Tom Waits

Well things are pretty lousy for a calendar girl
The boys just dive right off the cars and splash into the street
And when they're on a roll she pulls a razor from her boot
And a thousand pigeons fall around her feet
So put a candle in the window and a kiss upon his lips
As the dish outside the window fills with rain
Just like a stranger with the weeds in your heart
And pay the fiddler off 'til I come back again

Oh it's time time time, and it's time time time
And it's time time time that you love
And it's time time time

Happiness is a sad song, so said Charlie Brown. There have been, over the years, many sad songs that have been a great comfort to me. One of them is:

Honey Come Back, by Glen Campbell

Honey come back, I just can't stand
Each lonely day's a little bit longer
Than the last time I held you
Seems like a hundred years ago
Back to his arms that never know
The joy of love that used to taste like
Honey come back where you belong, to only me

*hugs* welcome back Stevie.

Regina Spektor - Braille
She was lying on the floor and counting stretch marks
she hadn't been a virgin and he hadn't been a god
so she names the baby Elvis
to make up for the royalty he lacked

And from then on it was turpentine and patches
from then on it was cold Campbell's from the can
And they were just two jerks playing with matches
Cause that's all they knew how to play

And it was raining cats and dogs out side of her window
And she knew they were destined to become
sacred road kill on the way
And she was listening to the sound of heavens shaking
thinking about puddles, puddles and mistakes

Cause it's been turpentine and patches
It's been cold, cold Campbell's from the can
And they were just two jerks playing with matches
Cause that's all they knew how to play

Elvis never could carry a tune
she thought about this irony as she stared back at the moon
she was tracing her years with her fingers on her skin
saying why don't I begin again
with turpentine and patches
with cold, cold Campbell's from the can
after all I'm still a jerk playing with matches
it's just that he's not around to play along
I'm still an ass hole playing with candles
Blowing out wishes blowing out dreams
Just sitting here and trying to decipher
what's written in Braille upon my skin...

I love sad songs, I don't know why, I think it is because sadness/sorrow is/are such strong emotion(s), and easily take over. In addition, they are familiar, and there is always comfort in the familiar.

I have many, but currently some favorites are
Bad Diary Days and June 18, 1976 by Pedro the Lion
Not a Friend by Sebadoh
My Darling by Wilco
and pretty much any Bright Eyes song....

"June 18, 1976" By Pedro the Lion

You were born in KC, Missouri
To a girl who wasn't married
After your birth she brought you to the nursery
Kissed your head and told you not to worry
And the quitely she turned and slipped away

In the elevator her heart began to pound
To the rooftop, in her slippers, and her gown
On the edge, she took one last look around
Then closed her eyes and pushed away

Speeding toward the ground
Through the air without a sound
So gracefully

Twelve flights down, nearly naked on the ground
Skin and tagedy always attract a crowd
So it was when the policeman came around
He took more than fifty eyewitness accounts
Each one in awe, for they'd never seen a girl so sad and beatiful

Speeding toward the ground
Through the air without a sound
Speeding toward the ground
Through the air without a sound
So gracefully

"Don't Forget Me" - Harry Nilsson: I have yet to listen to it without crying. I'm actually welling up a bit while typing this.

I've also got a version by Sinead O Connor - simply fabulous! But of course even a 'happy' song can seem sad, if you're in the wrong mood.

"Hazard" by Richard Marx, hands down. That song is so depressing that I can't listen to it.

I don't know the songs name... its either frankly provocative or its called human
the whole song is about how he loves and cares and thats why he is undeniably human its just so nice sounding and saddening and it almost makes me cry... i put it on at work and i started to water i had to turn it off before i started crying around customers.
Mine is the Earth and the sword in the stone, Mine is the throne for the idol
One fleeting moment, and it is all gone, Crownless again Will I fall?

Re: saddest song you ever heard?

Greetings..
Janis Ian's 17

robby

At 17

Met 17

Janis Ian
I learned the truth at seventeen
that love was meant for beauty queens
And high school girls with clear-skinned smiles
who married young and then retired.
The valentines I never knew,
the Friday night charades of youth
Were spent on one more beautiful.
At seventeen I learned the truth.

And those of us with ravaged faces,
lacking in the social graces,
Desperately remained at home,
inventing lovers on the phone
Who called to say, "Come dance with me,"
and murmured vague obscenities.
It isn't all it seems at seventeen.

A brown-eyed girl in hand-me-downs
whose name I never could pronounce
Said, "Pity, please, the ones who serve;
they only get what they deserve.
And the rich relationed hometown queen
marries into what she needs.
With a guarantee of company
and haven for the elderly."

Remember those who win the game
lose the love they sought to gain.
In debentures of quality and dubious integrity.
Their small-town eyes will gape at you in dull surprise
When payment due exceeds
accounts received at seventeen.

To those of us who knew the pain
of valentines that never came,
And those whose names were never called
when choosing sides for basketball.
It was long ago and far away;
the world was younger than today
And dreams were all they gave away for free
to ugly duckling girls like me. We all play the game and when we dare
to cheat ourselves at solitaire.
Inventing lovers on the phone,
repenting other lives unknown
That call and say, "Come dance with me,"
and murmur vague obscenities
At ugly girls like me at seventeen.

Bleven wanhopig thuis,

Zei "Medelijden, alsjeblieft, met degenen die dienen;

Het was lang geleden en ver weg;
