    Re: For profit prisons?

    Fuck no! I am not really in favour of prisons full stop as a method of control, but it will take a long time before we are in a place where that is publicly supported. But the worst idea for prisons at all is to contract them out. They lead to longer prison sentences, lowered rehabilitation and cost cutting in all areas such as medical provisions and education, as these all lower profits. Also it is quite clear that only the state should have the right to punish us, not random private companies the state dumps us on.

    The path to profit is only served by treating humans badly.

    There are some businesses that should not be privatized like:
    Prisons
    Emergency services
    Police
    Army
    Firefighters
    Social security
    law and order,
    Schools,

    .... etc

    Re: For profit prisons?

    Right now in America we have a huge problem with over-incarceration of our own citizens.

    The reason? For-profit prisons own many politicians who help make those laws.

    Remember the racist "Papers Please" law in Arizona? That was for two reasons... to make Hispanic people to be afraid to be seen in public (because the rich white old people pulling the strings are uncomfortable seeing them) and to give prisons a nice HUGE number of people whose only crime was "leaving home without their passport."

    And now, for-profit prisons are saying that they're not meeting their forecasts and need MORE prisoners. Yes, we no longer put people in jail because they did anything so horrible that they need to be separated from society, they're doing it because we need a thicker bottom line.

    For-profit prisons are a horrible idea.
    Gentlemen.... Thank you.

    .
    This is not a minor corruption and injustice issues. Sounds like it is getting worse and worse according to the media. America preaching other countries about human rights are so tiresome when you hear injustices in America.

    the problem embodies one of Americas biggest problems: we would rather spend 50k a year on you to imprison you because we cant be bothered to spend a dollar a year on you in education, healthcare, or anything else.

    In America.

    http://www.npr.org/sections/money/20...-kid-to-school
    On average, it costs $10,615 to send a kid to public school for a year. (That's federal, state and local government spending combined.)
    As the map above shows, that one number masks a huge variation. Utah spends just over $6,000 per student; New York and the District of Columbia over $18,000.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    http://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=66
    Total expenditures for public elementary and secondary schools in the United States amounted to $621 billion in 2011–12, or $12,401 per public school student enrolled in the fall (in constant 2013–14 dollars, based on the Consumer Price Index). These expenditures include $11,014 per student in current expenditures for operation of schools; $1,018 for capital outlay (i.e., expenditures for property and for buildings and alterations completed by school district staff or contractors); and $370 for interest on school debt.
    Quite likely there are more accurate and up to date websites available on line. I just grabbed a couple for quick reference.
    Yeah, let's privatize prisons. Criminals go in..... As time for their release comes up we'll discover they've started a riot or something so they get more time added. They'll stay in and we wont have to deal with them, taxpayer money will continue to go for their incarceration. Companies will make loads of money off of housing prisoners like KFC chickens, allowing those on top to shit on the ones below. Just inject them all with antibiotics, all the medical care they need..... The companies can charge the government for all the medical care they want..... As prisoners die their bodies get incinerated while their names stay on the books, the companies continue to collect for housing them even though they no longer even have the body!
    Sounds great to me.
    Maybe they could grind up the dead and ship that out to some of these 3rd world countries as food, call it grEWl.
    It's never too early in the year,
    to spread some goodwill cheer!
