    sampling kibble

So I always try whatever dry food we are going to serve our cats.

I also try their medicines to find out how horrible tasting they are before we try them on them.

Some people think this is bizarre...but I'll bet that other people with dogs and cats do the same thing.

    Do you?

I suppose you love your pets same as your own kids, so yes it is not bizarre behavior.
I wouldn't go that far tasting everything you give to the pet.

Would you taste raw fish ?

    . . . and the what?

Do you think that if you don't like it they won't?

Do you try it with a bit of steak sauce, sour cream or other dressings to see if they might like to dip?

Do you like everything that they like? Have you ever observed one of your cats liking another cat's ass?

I make all my dogs' food and therefore know it's good without tasting it.

But, I don't serve kibble and wouldn't taste raw chicken backs, etc.

The worst thing...is not energy depletion, economic collapse, conventional war, or the expansion of totalitarian governments. As terrible as these catastrophes would be for us, they can be repaired in a few generations. The one process now going on that will take millions of years to correct is loss of genetic and species diversity by the destruction of natural habitats. This is the folly our descendants are least likely to forgive us.--e.o. wilson

No, I wrap my dogs meds in a piece of peperoni, she swallows it right down.
She gets glucosamine mixed into her food, I put a few bacon bits in with that.

To an extent, I can understand that.

My cat brings uncounted snakes, birds, and mammals, and I really appreciate his extrordinary hunting skills, and his earnest efforts to feed me and my family.

No one in my household is allowed to scold him, on the contrary: we all compliment him.

And when he doesn't look, his foodstuff gifts vanish — I hope he thinks that we ate it

In the UK I believe it's the law that all pet foods have to be passed as fit for human consumption. As a child I used to enjoy dog chocolate, it was nice and dry and powdery, like that cheap stuff they put in the coins you hang on Christmas trees.

White worm eggs could be in catfood.

But I've eaten what the guinea pigs were fed. There was carob in there.

    A. I can tell whether it is high in some elements and yes, whether they will like it.

    B. They don't like their kibble with dips or sauces. They prefer their dry food dry and their wet food wet.

    C. Liking and licking ass appears to be something that humans don't necessarily share with cats. While they will lick their own, they only give a cursory sniff of the others' buttholes. Human homos, on the other hand, apparently love to spend hours jamming their tongue up another guy's fartbox.

And Telstra...kibble is not raw ingredients. It has been baked'. And yes, I eat a lot of raw fish.

I'll smell it, but I won't taste it. I will admit that SOME of the canned foods do smell good... but I've never been THAT desperate/hungry.

My cat is extremely picky and will only eat canned food. I've tried dozens of different dry foods. He won't eat it.

Even with canned food, he has his favorites.

I actually do. I find it bizarre that you also do this. I'm very attached to my cat, Mabel and curious about her strange and simple little life.

Lord no, wouldn't make any sense to. Differing tastebuds entirely, or close to. We both like meat but in different forms and close to differing textures. Me thinking something is nasty doesn't mean my cat will. Mind you, I do keep an eye out for what she enjoys and what she doesn't.

What I'm actually tasting for is a bitter underbite to the flavour. Some foods have this. And cats do not like bitter.

I also can tell how much garbage and filler is in the food by taste and texture. Seriously.

I should also point out that I am not the only insane one in the family.

My sister tastes the canned food for her cat.

It should make us easy to feed when we're old and poor.

Do you shit in a tray full of litter every time you get a different brand? If you go through all that just to make sure the food going in is pleasant then you should also check it coming out. Its only logical.
