    Short Story Anthologies

I've decided to enter a short story into a new anthology I saw advertised on Facebook. The theme is killer plants which I thought was sort of cool, besides submitting a short story for consideration is an attempt to take my writing seriously.

Has anyone else ever submitted a short story to an anthology, or been published in one?

I did. Actually, I was requested to write it by the editor of one of the 'Chicken Soup' books: Chicken Soup for the Canadian Soul. It was the story of the liberation of Mons, Belgium by Canadians near the end of WWI. I received a small fee for my effort. It was rather fun. I even got in touch with the mayor of Mons for some background information.

Will do Taz, if it doesn't make the final cut for the anthology I'll stick it on my blog.

Awesome. I'm hoping to get a fee for my novel but not this. If I get into the anthology it just gives me a published writing credit which I'm hoping for.

    Good Luck, Ravenstar.

I'm nore of a reader than a writer.

A bunch of us have suggest, strongly at times, that Neil should offer "Brad" up to a publisher to help him earn some extra money.
So far he has just as firmly declined.

And I know, if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest . . .

^ It's not even a passing thought. It would require a complete rewrite to fix all of the screw-ups, and it took long enough to write it the first time.

Urgh, editing is the bane of my life. Particularly structural edits like you're talking about. I'm lucky to be surrounded by Grammar Nazi's who love nothing more than pointing out all my grammatical mistakes. The structural re-writes etc however are mine alone. I need a good structural editor but who has the $$ for that.

It's great that you're submitting something. I hope they take it. I love anthologies. Among other reasons is discovering new favorite authors.

I've had four short stories accepted, all what I like to think of as literary erotica. Two are in print (Best Gay Erotica 2014 and a lesbian BDSM collection). I took back the rights to my digital one and might self-pub. The fourth (planned for print) is held up in some sort of mess with the publisher. My stand-alone novelette is a short story too, according to some definitions. Rather than put it in an anthology, they had me stretch it out. That's the one linked in my sig.

More info here. Free copies by request.

I was thinking more along the lines of inconsistencies than grammatical errors. You know, birthdays changing, physical appearances changing, stuff like that.

I remember the novel of yours I read, it was great fun and very naughty It's still on my Kindle and few of the ebooks I've read sit in the library after I've read them.

That's why I mentioned a structural edit as well, that's where you pick up all those inconsistencies. Grammar is my bug to bear lol, so is changing hair colour, and names of characters lol.

Shhh. Don't tell anyone, but if I forget a character's name and it's too much bother to go back and search through chapter after chapter to find it, I just write the character out of the story by never mentioning him again.

    Neil,
With the volume you have written in Brad, it's really not surprising that some of the secondary characters only spent a passing amount of time there and faded off into the Sunset as it were.

^ Especially the accents. It's easy enough to speak an accent, but sometimes tough as nails to write one and make it recognisable.
