    Living in a material world

And I am a material girl!

No not really, actually I don't own much, but my relationship with material things is healthy. I personally enjoy having a small quantity of lost lasting quality things like clothes and such as opposed to lots of stuff. I don't form attachments to things either.

    Are you a material girl?

I like the stuff I own, and tend not to be too grabby about the stuff I don't. The weird thing is - I eventually get a lot of it anyway. Several years ago, I wrote a short list of (modest) things I wanted that I assumed I'd never get. So far, I've gotten all but one. I may get that last one, or I may not. I'm fine either way.

I love my things, though i don't have all that much.

I tend to hang on to stuff "hoard" though that's usually cheap stuff like books and records.

At this point in my life I like things more for sentimental reasons than their material value. I collect music in all formats but for my own enjoyment rather than its monetary value. I often think that I do not want large amounts of money because like Cyndi Lauper sings "Money, money changes everything".

I used to watch during the opening credit for that car to get air on the jump.

I thought the opening credits had a clip of a car leaping a hill and getting air time. Maybe I mixed it up with Mannix or Cannon or something.

The more stuff I have the more pointless and worthless it all seems to become ... you can't take it with you when you shuffle off this mortal coil ... I've started giving away all the useless stuff that I don't really need.

I spend more on some things than most people and less on things than most people.

For certain articles of clothing, I'll spend more than the average person. But socks, for example, I probably spend less. Etc.

It's weird. I guess it all depends on what's important to you.

I have been down the path of materialism, new cars, boats, motorcycles, antique cars and all kinds of electronic "toys" (not the sex toys)
When the economy changed as globalization took it's toll on the middle class I changed with it. I now have a used car and live in a mobile home, owe no bills and am retired, I might add that I have never been more content. The content part started long before the retirement did, it was great to get a pay check and know that it was mine.

I'm not that material, it's just stuff. Nice to have, most can be replaced if lost, stolen, damaged. Of course I do have my favorite stuff, but it's not necessary for me to live.

That was actually a joke but If somebody stole my posessions I would be livid and most likely would tear up.

I probably could live without my belongings; obviously I did before I bought them.

But now they are integral parts of my home décor and I would be loathe to lose them.

Some of my bits and bobs have been with me for over 40 years so the sentimental value is quite strong; but if really necessary I think I could get rid of everything and just start a clean sheet with the basic minimum.

I had someone break into my car and steal all of my CDs (I was moving them from one place to another). And that was back before the mp3 days, so when I lost those, I lost my entire digital music collection. I was surprisingly less broken up about it than I thought I would've been. After that, I decided I could probably handle losing any number of my material possessions. Not that I'm in a hurry to test that theory, though.

Most of my stuff is replaceable; however, there are a few things which mean more in terms of sentimentality than anything else.

My three guitars, for instance - each can be replaced with a similar or identical guitar. But the replacement will not be the old Hondo Mk II which I learned to play on when I was 16 and which has 21 years of my sweat and fingerprints all over its neck, the battered old red Epi which was bought from a pawn shop by my mom for my 19th birthday that I played in the band with, or the newer Epi I helped a friend buy even though I wanted to buy it for myself and which she eventually sold to me five years later.

I would also miss my epic CD collection, even though none of them are limited edition or irreplaceable. And I have some clothes which I would be loath to have to replace; boardshorts in particular since I find I don't really like the current style or designs nearly as much as the ones I have. And my plentiful collection of undies, of course .

I would probably hunt down and kill anyone who made off with any of my books.
