    Looking - Season 2

Can’t wait for the new season of Looking! Got any scoop yet?

Season 2 of the HBO drama will add three recurring characters: Malik, an African-American staffer in the mayor’s office; Sammie, a female-to-male transgender who lives at the shelter where Agustín gets a job; and Brady, Richie’s new redheaded, slightly punk beau.

    Re: Looking - Season 2

Season 2 of the HBO series Looking hasn’t even started filming yet but that didn’t stop the enthusiasm for the show, its cast (Jonathan Groff, Murray Bartlett, Frankie J Alvarez, new full-time cast member Lauren Weedman) and creator Michael Lannan at Saturday’s Outfest panel, Inside Looking.

The warm and chummy group took to the stage at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles to talk about how the first season was received and what we can expect with the second season, which will premiere in early 2015 on HBO.

‘Looking’ Season 2 Spoilers: New Faces Joining Patrick, Agustin & Dom In Quest For Love, Show Becoming More Diverse With Multi-Racial & Trans Characters

Things continue looking up for HBO's dramedy series Looking, as season 2 will feature some new faces alongside its core characters when it premieres in 2015.

In addition to Patrick (Jonathon Groff), Agustin (Frankie J. Alvarez) and Dom (Murray Bartlett) searching for love in modern-day San Francisco, newer, more diverse characters will also join in, as they too search for romance.

According to New Now Next, three new male characters will join them, and could potentially add more complications to their personal and romantic lives.

The new characters will include Malik, an African-American staffer at the mayor's office, Sammie, a trans man who lives at the shelter where Agustin gets a job and Brady, Richie's (Raul Castillo) new redheaded boyfriend. There have been no casting announcements as of yet.

The decision of showrunners David Marshall Grant, Sarah Condon and Andrew Haigh to include such racially diverse characters appears to be in response to early criticisms that the show wasn't showcasing all the members of the San Francisco gay community, and chose to focus solely on white men.

Will it get a longer runtime or maybe more episodes per season? with it's current length and short season, the amount they are attempting to explore more characters is going to fail from pacing, or have little to no characterisation or a huge lack of fleshing out the stories that are being told.

I am not sure if I am missing something but I started on Season 1 and found it really dull. I am assuming if it's getting a second season then there must be some appeal...

It seems they read people´s reactions on the internet. Where is the trans one? Here. Where is the black one? Here you go.

I´m looking forward to this season, I really enjoyed the 1st one. It was actually the only gay series I could watch for more than 2 episodes.

Those were my thoughts exactly. Nice to see they listen.. but it reads as pandering.

I found the show exceedingly dull and the main character absolutely unlikable, right up to the 6th episode. So, I really doubt i'll follow it, what with shows like Please Like Me on Pivot being worlds more interesting.

yes the main character is dull, i found that his lovers were more exciting than him and one of his friends were more unbearable.

we wil see this season, maybe it might change

I loved the 1st season of Please Like Me. Very well written. The 2nd season starts on August 10th, or around that date and they just signed up for a 3rd season

The show started out dull, but as the characters developed the show got better as it progressed. Then as it was starting to get better the first season was over. I am looking forward to season 2. I hope this show stays on for awhile so the characters can develop further.

I did a marathon session with some friends. Cautiously optimistic about Season 2.

The first season was a little uneven, some good, emotional episodes and some dull episodes that lacked drama and character development. Overall, I am encouraged by Looking. I like most of the characters except maybe Franke. By the eighth and last episode of Season One, I actually wanted more.

Interestingly enough, on IMDB, Looking gets an 8.1, which is way above average.

Thanks for all the scoop on season two! I can't wait for Sunday!

I am not surprised at all it gets an 8.1. Millenials were starving to see some sort of mainstream representation and I think this fills that void pretty accurately. I can't wait either!

My only annoyance is that it doesn't look like Richie will be on the opener

Looking’s Dan Franzese On His HIV-Positive Bear Character, Being Completely Naked On Screen And Why He Came Out Publicly

It’s been a decade since actor Daniel Franzese made a huge splash as Damian, the straight-talking, possibly gay teen character in the widely-adored comedy Mean Girls. In the years since he appeared on numerous TV series including The Comeback and in smaller films, such as the horror remake I Spit On Your Grave, but avoided any repeats of Damian and especially refused any roles he deemed “gay stereotypes.”

Last summer, as many media outlets acknowledged the impact Mean Girls had on a generation of fans, Franzese decided to come out publicly by writing an open letter to Damian, in which he acknowledged having played the Hollywood game, had lied about his sexual orientation and wished he’d had someone like his character to inspire him to live more honestly.

Jonathan Groff on the ‘Looking’ Backlash, the State of Gay TV, and Anal Bleaching

The Looking star knows you had big expectations for HBO’s Big Gay TV Show. And he’s glad the show doesn’t have to live up to them anymore.
It wasn’t the gay Sex and the City. It wasn’t a gay version of Girls. It wasn’t so many things that people wanted it to be. Looking, as it turned out, was just a hyper-specific, almost diarist look at a group of gay men in San Francisco dealing with their friendships, love lives, and sex lives.

    Looking was just Looking.

Now that we’re all done looking for our own hopes and dreams of what HBO’s first “gay show” would or should be, Looking is allowed to return for its second season as itself—with its own warm, surprisingly intimate identity and without the impossible-to-please expectations of what we all wanted it to be.

This show is extremely boring, I love watching anything and everything gay on TV even if it's not diverse which most aren't and filled with nothing but white people but this show right here just seems so stagnant like from the first episode this season into the woods, it began just like the first episode from last season which they were also into the woods.

I just want progression and drama. I'm guessing this show isn't a comedy since I never laugh so I really want this to be a good drama. I want the best for Looking but right now Days of our Lives is giving me more drama then Looking and that's pretty sad for a premium cable show. I didn't learn anything new by watching the season premiere from any of the characters, I don't really feel like I know any of the characters. I understood and knew all the queer as folk characters first episode but it's season two of Looking and I still don't know any of the characters any better then I did the first episode. Last nights season premiere seriously need to be discussed because they went into the woods, danced, had sex then it ended. What was the climactic scene from last night that was the highlight moment of the show??? There was none and that's the problem with almost every episode of Looking as a drama, is that me as the viewer sit and watches every episode waiting for the climax and you watch for half an hour and see oh the credits it's must be over, that was it. They went in the woods, danced and now it's off.

Datjacob--Days of Our lives does have the good gay story line with Sonny/Paul/Will. I watched Looking today and 15 minutes into, I just thought, is this over yet, I've got so many things to watch in my DVR, including GIRLS, which has far more interesting characters. I will keep watching.

Is it the writing or the acting, or both? (that made episode 1 of season two so average...)

So no one died, and there were no dramatic exits or revelations in this 30 minute opener, but to say nothing happened and that there is no character development is just false.

    Let's review:

Patrick revealed his guilt about ending things with Richie in the way that he did and that he is still seeing his boss, who is in a relationship simultaneously. He ran from commitment and because Richie wasn't his "ideal" partner. He would rather be a sidepiece to his boss than in a committed relationship with someone who is poorer and less white than he his. Then he questions himself after the act. Still confused and insecure about who he is and ultimately questioning why he cannot find love (or why he ran from it).

Dom revealed his relationship, and feeling of distance, with an older (although not by much) man who has had a whole lifetime of experience Dom has no idea about, but for some reason has not brought up much of it. Dom gets jealous, Dom exercises the "open relationship policy" to cope with the fact that he isnt as close to Lynn's heart as he would imagine.

Augustin is still a dick, and he is showing interest in someone living with HIV. The episode hints at the fact that he may have a substance abuse problem, which could explode given the right stressful situation.

It was a little slow, but you can't say nothing happened. The major downfall of this episode is that there was no Richie

I agree. Average it was, but some of the characters in GIRLS are so far left, its hard to believe some of them would exist, so it is hard to compare characters I could see as believable with ones that are not.

    Namely:
    Adam
    Shoshana
    Hannah
    Adam's Sister

GIF-cap: 'Looking for the Promised Land'

The boys go into the woods.

Looking, HBO’s series about three gay guys (and a straight girl), was deemed not boring enough to live another season and so we welcome you back — and for those who are new here, hello — to another ten weeks of Dom’s mustache, GIFs of Kevin’s butt, snappy Doris remarks, and what we can only believe to be is a long-running performance art project about the depths of self-hate by Agustin.

So before we get started, let’s recap where we left off: Patrick is alone, Dom is growing up, and Agustin is a (possibly drug-addicted) asshole.

After all the sudden drama at the end of last season, the boys have found their friendships strained and in much need of some bonding. So where do they go? Into the woods!

Why do people who didn´t like the first episodes finished the season and also why do people who didn´t like the whole first season are watching the second now? Of course it will be similar. Maybe the need to hate on something? Or maybe deep down you can´t wait to see the new episode but don´t want to admit to yourself that you´re hooked on it? Pathetic.

I didten watch all of season 1 but wanted to watch the first episode of the second season to see if they had come up with something more intresting new some shows do become better after some time but no it continued in the same dull direction as the first season but guess i should have known that since its the guy who did "weekend" which i didten like either that produces the show

I just think that the storylines are really flat, no carectar development and the acting is not that great

Agreed...The fact that there is a season 2 means that a significant number of people watched it and wanted more...

Not sure why this thread seems to attract those who do not...

I just think that the storylines are really flat, no carectar development and the acting is not that great
I didn´t mean it directly at you, but some posts from both threads. Still, if you didn´t watch the whole first season, how do you expect to understand the new episode?

    Re: Looking - Season 2

Didn't know there was a season 2 thread, so I'm dropping in here to join (and follow) the fun.

I was one of those people who weren't initially *sold* on the show, but I like it enough now to follow. And I've reached the point where I know I truly enjoy a show...I actually care about what happens to the people involved. Dom reminds me a lot of myself in some ways. Augustin is a complete DICK...but I actually do find myself wishing the best for him.

Patrick...adorable, but he's a hot ass mess. I almost feel like he needs someone in his life to give him some real hardcore advice and guidance, because his friends are too lax at his stupidity. Sometimes laughing about everything doesn't foster maturity.

    ***possible spoilers***

I haven't seen the second episode of season 2 yet, but will catch it later tonight. What confuses me the most about Patrick (and people like him who start affairs with people who are in relationships), is that do they honestly think that is the best way to begin a relationship with another person? I know the "if they do it to someone else...they will do it to you" mentality is old and played out, but sometimes one must use common sense.

I'm wondering if Patrick seriously has the delusion that Kevin views him as anything BUT a sideline ho that he can get ass from on the regular? I don't think that brings about respect. And I seriously hope Patrick is not hoping this will turn into a relationship at some point in the future? Even if it does, I think it spells disaster. a trainwreck waiting to happen. Relationships that start out as affairs, cheating and such usually don't end well...

I would also have a hard time respecting someone enough to want to enter a relationship with them, when I know they were fucking around and betraying their better half while trying to get with me. This is not about cheating, but more about someone's character, imo.

Oh well, I'm bringing too many of my personal feelings about things to the table. Those are my thoughts for now.

I am really excited to see how Dom's journey with starting his own business turns out. I empathize so much with him because I'm trying to find myself professionally, and it's neat to see the sparkle in his eye when talking about his goal(s).

Augustin...i hope he cleans his act up and becomes less of an asshole this season.

    We'll see what develops.

Pretty great episode. This one really bumped up the comedy compared to most episodes, particularly with Patrick. Not only is his dorkiness revealing itself more and more, but Groff is so much better this season, that his comic timing and delivery really hits the mark. I can't tell if his performance really is that much better this season, or if his character is increasingly comfortable with himself revealing himself.
I still don't see any sort of romantic chemistry or sexual tension between Kevin and Patrick. This sexual relationship is born out of convenience and opportunity. They get along well and have fun and let loose. I can see why they would connect being the only gay men in the office, again opportune. But that's it. They're good friends having sex with each other and one is the other's boss. Neither seems emotionally invested. What makes it worth cheating for?

Augustin on the street... it's hard to feel bad for him.

Agreed, except for the lack of sexual tension. I think its convenience for Patrick, but for Kevin it is his want/need to please his parents that he is gravitated towards Patrick, which his friends alluded to a couple of times during the episode. I think by the end of the episode, he is starting to realize he might be attracted more to the idea of Patrick than the reality of Patrick.

I just hope Richie does not get sucked back into being with Kevin. He is way too cool and attractive for that. Give the dude his own story line already !

I'm glad I found a place to talk about Looking that isn't completely filled with people saying how much they hate the show and the characters.

So far Season 2 has been a bit dull. I am hoping it picks up. Season 1 was a bit dull but it picked up gradually. I am hoping that Season 2 does as well. I enjoy watching Jonathan Groff and his boss, who is a hottie!

Tonight's episode was my favourite episode of the series so far. I really enjoyed the sex scene and the shower scene.
