    Heat wave in summer

IS LIVING HELL. I'm about to pass out here, it's too hot I'm sweating like crazy.. I probably smell really bad, but it's just SO FUCKING HOT. I can't deal with it. There's no breeze either, and the humidity is high too. JUST KMN

How are you dealing with the heatwave? How much is it where you are now? it's close to 90 degrees here.

I live in Georgia. You know nothing about heat and humidity. Every day. From late May til October. With 90 degree weather being the norm rather than the exception from July til September.

How do I deal? I take advantage of all this compressed heat and I exercise. I need to get back to doing cardio.

Well.. I bet you guys have A/C. We don't here in Norway. That's why it's harder to deal with. I try to stay hydrated, and I try not to go outside when the weather is at its hottest. But still.. this current heatwave is hell on earth. I wouldn't survive living in Georgia, lol.

No, we don't. We use fans.. like standing on the floor or a table. That's about it. Nobody has A/C in Norway.. well, maybe like 1 %, but it sure as hell isn't normal. Most people just open their windows in summer. It's all we can do. It's not supposed to be this hot here. It's normal to have temps in the 20-25 range, not 30+. That's just crazy. The most mind boggling thing is that they have the same heat wave in NORTHERN NORWAY. It's close to 30 degrees even ABOVE the polar circle. Fucking hell.. and people say global warming is made up? Yeah.. don't think so.

When it gets really warm here in the UK, I just try not to do much of anything besides breathe. I can just about cope with it.

I feel for you------ without central air---couldn't deal with it either--hate humidity. Maybe you should start an air conditioning business over there.

I don't know HOW it's possible but the temp just went UP one degree, and it's evening here. I just.. It's now 29 degrees C. That's almost 30 degrees. It's too hot, like I can't deal.

Almost 90? Sounds like a cool fall day for me.

It's always hot as Hell here, all year round. Not much I can do besides suffer.

We have not had any terrible heat yet this year. No days have been over 100 F. The jetstream dip is giving us a nice reprieve from the regular summer temperature right now. It is about 80 F outside.

The true measure of discomfort is dew point, especially when it is over 70 F and your body starts to lose the ability to cool off.

It's 85 F here right now, so it's actually hotter than where you are in America. Besides.. the humidity is high, so it feels WAY worse.

Wow that is insane for such a high latitude. It is typical to get 85 F here in July, but I fear the averages will continue to climb in my lifetime :\

our bedroom AC is broken... the boyfriend and I are riding it out by sleeping on our own sides of the bed and not touching/cuddling at all. lol

we're blasting the air in the living room which is making the bedroom at least tolerable, but I like making the bedroom super cold in the summer so we can still snuggle up under the blankets.

It is funny hearing Americans laugh at 30 degrees! How often does it dip below 0 in those places? How often does it get above 15 degrees!

It was way to hot for me last week. On Friday we got to 33 degrees and I was in London. God the underground almost killed me, the heat and humidity down there was crazy, I thought I was in hell! Still we have had our rain and the heat has died down. I hope Norway gets a break in the heat soon, cos I was thinking of going there in a few weeks time!

we get the worst of all worlds in Jersey... summers are 30-33 and sickeningly humid, while winters dip down to 0 around December and stay there (+/- a few degrees) until March/April.

    Re: Heat wave in summer

My clothes were wet from the rain and it was only 20 degrees in my house so I turned on the radiator for a while.
I never wear summer clothes, unless it's extremely hot (30 degrees or more).

A lot of people where I live don't bother with air conditioning. Most summer days are 20-23, overnight lows are 14-ish. You'll get a hot snap where you'll get highs of 30 for a few days but the evenings usually cool off. What sucks is when it's 30 in the day and 25 at night. But would you buy AC if that happened only a few days a year and it was easier just to go sleep in the basement?

Depends where you go though, down east it's always high 20's and 30's, and fucking humid. Everybody wants a pool and AC.

The worst thing is that for the last couple of nights it stayed hot ALL NIGHT LONG. That's certainly NOT normal here in Norway. I mean.. it happens from time to time, but it's not normal, certainly not for several days. It's almost 11 pm now, and it's 25 degrees. I have trouble sleeping if it's too hot.

Makes me think of the experience two months ago in the Buenos Aires subways ["Subte"]. It was the middle of autumn, so the temperature was comfortable, and it was uncomfortably hot in the subways. I understand the summer temperatures there can VERY easily get past 40C. I don't even want to think about the subway in those conditions.

This Norwegian agrees with you. If you can't escape the heat, at least at night, you are set up for misery all day long.

It's 31 degrees today, that's 88 degrees for you Americans. I'm not used to weather like this, so I think it's too hot. But I guess I shouldn't complain, because I know it's hotter other places, so yeah..

    I feel you hun

I used to be happy when I knew my apartment will facing toward west. I thought I didn't have to worry for the mean sunshine greeting by my window every morning andd...that giving me extra sleep every day too. ^^ But alas, I didn't count for sunset, I thought sunset is pretty harmless but that's not my experience when Im having a sunset during the peak of summer like right now. Having windows and balcony facing west are sure things to experience the nastiest heat wave of summer because the sun set the longest nearby me, especially around 7 to 9 pm...nasty-nasty cumulated heat wave vapor inside my room

and my plants too...not doing pretty well. I think Im gonna give up gardening, for now they all must hide behind shades such as garden furniture, my shoes and so on. If I forgot to shade them like when I remove the patio chair (when I using it on 4th of July last time) then the sun heat would harm them, they all look like porridge now which are pretty sad, only my succulents and cacti are doing well...- they all are getting 'fat' and green this summer but I need to take cautious measure in the winter..since some of them can't stand freezing temperature so well, in the winter it's their turn to look like porridge

I keep my central air set to 72* f, I don't deal with heat well.....I turn into a crab over 78*f. I definitely prefer winter, I don't care if it gets to -20 or less, my furnace works fine and the fireplaces are cleaned every fall.

I live in the tropics. It is hot and humid all the time. I suppose we just gets used to it over here.

But often, it is not so much the heat as the humidity that makes it uncomfortable.

I am fortunate to have air conditioning in my rooms, but I do not usually sleep with the air conditioning on. I find that when I sleep with the air conditioner on all night, I wake up to a very dry nose.

    Re: Heat wave in summer

Be grateful you have some heat in the summer (it is summer, after all). We've had essentially no hot weather at all in Milwaukee. It's 69 degrees now and that will be our high today. Some nights are in the low 50s, especially close to the lake, so you need a light jacket if you're outside when the sun goes down. And July is our warmest month. June was unusually cold and August is predicted to be below normal, so basically we'll have no summer this year. We didn't have much of one last year either.

Not surprisingly, I don't own an air conditioner, and never have needed one.

frankfrank: I wish that were true for me, but I'm a fibromyalgiac. We're usually cold, and I'm severely cold intolerant, so this kind of summer is very unpleasant for me. I would move to a warmer climate (e.g., AZ, NM) in a minute if I weren't chained to my job.

Oh...sorry to hear that, man - any condition that makes one feel some sort of unpleasantness daily (just because of health issues themselves)...sucks. That's actually a condition that, to this day, I know little about...I didn't realize, 'til your post, that it changes (worsens) one's tolerance to cold. So yeah, Milwaukee isn't the best place for that, I guess - not just the chill/cold that's so common, but so many days that are cloudy and clammy. (Well, you COULD have been on the other side of the Lake...it's worse over there...)

You're definitely in the "wrong" climate, in those circumstances.

It was like that for the last few days here - thank fuck for the storms and general cooling down. Also it was pretty cool to have a predicted 5000 strikes of lightening in 2 hours the other night in my area.

Unbelievably mild for July. I would go out to the parks but it is Bedlam on the weekends.

We've had some hot days - upper 80's pushing 90's, plus humidity.
Winters - when you're talking -0-, with highs in the 30's, you're talking Celcius - we are below 0 Celcius most of the Winter from December through March, into April.

We dip sub -0-F a little, too, but living nearish to Lake Ontario helps protect us a bit in that regard.

And I know, if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest . . .

Sokker, I'm curious about the lack of air conditioning in your country. I realize that you all are not accustomed to the heat, but will you be getting an air conditioner now that you know how hot it really can get. A co-worker who is from the Ukraine told me that in her country, air conditioning is unheard of, but I just can't imagine that.

Here in NY, I keep my house like a refrigerator in the summer because heat makes me feel miserable. Where would a person in Norway go if they had to buy an AC... To the hardware store; or is it more difficult than that??

It is nearly the end of July and I still have my duvet on the bed. Usually by now I am sleeping with just a wisp of sheet across my genitals.

I hate the heat, especially when it's really humid, which it usually is.
Luckily, I have air conditioning at home.
