Obama's Executive Order to end Discrimination

President Barack Obama will take executive action to prohibit federal contractors from LGBT workplace discrimination.

According to a White House official, Obama has directed his staff to prepare an executive order for his signature prohibiting federal contractors from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity — a move long sought by LGBT-rights advocates that builds upon Obama’s legacy as the strongest LGBT ally to ever occupy the White House.
I have to say that I am more than a little surprised that this story seems to have gotten so little notice....particularly on JUB. This is a landmark move.

The Executive Order hasn’t been signed. People are more likely to “notice” when that actually happens.

There is speculation that the White House is waiting until the Supreme Court hands down its ruling in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, because a finding in favor of the defendant could invite corporate discrimination on a variety of issues, such as anti-gay bigotry – based on the religious objections of the corporation’s owners.

I've been debating with myself whether it's a good idea or not. Should a Republican manage to get elected, it will just get reversed.

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

But by then the companies already contracting with the federal government will have protections in place.

More progress for the LGTB community thanks to Obama.
