No offense but fuck Jamaica---all this smoking pot and talking about loving mankind and peace---but gay people's lives in that country are worth shit. This is showing the trans people--but I've known regular gay dudes who lived in fear down there.

Yes, because no country is allowed to live in a state of hypocrisy before transition! Oh America the land of acceptance!

As a Jamaican, living in the states, I find this comment so ignorant.

Well you were lucky to get out---Jamaica is known for it's hate of gays---and I know plenty of Jamaicans in this country who have verified that this is true. Maybe you should be trying to do something about it instead of acting like it is no problem. I mean gays are warned to not travel there. And BTW there is plenty of hypocrisy in this country too---but I don't live in a section of this country where I have to deal with it. In 2014 acceptance is a human right---at least where I would choose to live or visit. Life is too short to live in a hate filled environment.

Everyone, especially in jamaica, doesn't have the luxury to just pack up and move to san francisco or boystown. I'm sure their woes are too complex to be solved by trite pseudophilosophical quotes about life being short.

We could do without most of those islands. Well, keep the islands. Just resettle the inhabitants.

We JUBbers can do what JUBbers normally do; ignore issues outside the USA.

There'll be a few from the PC Brigade who wring their hands and act all holier-than-thou. But that isn't much of a solution.

    A couple things:

    1) I'm not acting like there isn't a problem; dont put words in my mouth

    2) As Karen eloquently mentioned not everyone has the luxury of running from the problem as your words seems to imply "but I don't live in a section of this country where I have to deal with it. In 2014 acceptance is a human right---at least where I would choose to live or visit". So I wont say anymore for that would need I assume a bunch of things about that trite post.[/QUOTE]

    3) Yes I am lucky as my brother is too. I don't need you to tell me that; just don't try to dish judgement lacking context.

My pray for them. It's a living hell to live in a country that want to brainwash you.

It's hard to see people.............any people, treated this way for who they are, not what they've done, and they've done nothing wrong,..... but exist. The general mindset of Jamaica is fucked up.

It is. Growing up, I saw it ingrained in our culture. But it's worst than that because there is the notion of "love" and "acceptance" that's preached. I'm surprise the cognitive dissonance has caused collective apoplexy! A sad state of fucking affair

And it's ironic because I am sure the most homophobic of Jamaicans would be suddenly on the correct side of history if it was related to racism. But they seem incapable of standing up to types of intolerance that don't directly affect them, such as homophobia.

My town has many Jamaicans and I always have my guard up around them.. I am not going to be outwardly disrespectful or discriminatory, but I will be a little more cautious around them just as I am around people from other cultures that are known for their homophobia.

How enlightened our world is, makes me feel so comfortable, all warm and fuzzy, full of love and acceptance.
No, there is no reason for gay men to stay in the closet and marry a woman...

Something interesting I noticed. Where are the lesbians?
No doubt, I'm sure a double standard exists there in Jamaica as well when it comes to women...It's most likely ok for women to have sex with each other, they are less of a threat and can still be considered straight....

    Yep, such an enlightened society.
