I am over England now, betting is easing the pain. I have won all my bets on games since the England match now.

Even though they lost their first match, Bosnia look a very decent side.

France were brilliant last night. Such great team spirit, cohesion and lethal firepower.
Even Benzema wanted to play for his country - sometimes in the past he appeared totally disinterested.

Loving the football that France are producing and absolutely love their national anthem (Does that make me a traitor? )

As for England, I'm actually not all that disappointed or surprised that they are out so soon as I did not have any expectations of them for this tournament. As usual they seemed to pin all their hopes on a certain striker - who is allegedly world class - who yet again failed to produce on the big stage. Yes, I know he provided the assist for the equaliser against Italy, but that was only one moment and his goal against Uruguay was handed to him on a plate. Apart from those two instances he did nothing positive that I could see. But hey, as there were five players from Liverpool F.C. in the starting line-ups for both games, let's blame them

Something fascinating to me is that despite the periods of turmoil and revolution in Iran, they've kept playing.

I think USA might nick it, the Portugal squad is not all that good outside of CR7 - 2-1, not a pretty game I will go with.

Agreed! Great country, fun team - love it. I think this might be the first world cup were talent is more evenly spread amongst all nations, after the Iran game it has shown there are no no-hopers anymore really. One huge benefit of the game going completely global and money going everywhere in the search of talent.

Is anyone else starting to think Mourinho was right about Lukaku? He does not look like he can handle the pressure.

Algeria absolutely butchering Korea at the mo; 4-1 and not looking likely to stop scoring.

Tonight... difficult to say, I think Portugal might just come right. They haven't looked great squeaking into the tournament in teh first place, and of course were mauled by the Germans last time out, but I reckon tonight might be their night. 2-1 to Portugal, I think.

Is anyone else starting to think Mourinho was right about Lukaku? He does not look like he can handle the pressure.
Difficult to say. The class in that Belgian squad... they should be putting almost everyone away, yet they haven't looked the part just yet. I'm not sure Lukaku is the next Ronaldinho, but I think Mourinho would be foolish to let him walk.

Oh for sure it would be stupid to let him walk - but Mourinho was willing to let him go out on loan last year because he felt he could not take the pressure at all (see the Super Cup Final), and I think if he could have his way he would loan him out again to get him ready. I think he needs to step up now at this tournament if he wants to prove him wrong. If Benteke was fit no way would he be playing.

The Portugal goal against the US was a joke, terrible defending and Tim Howard prating about! Still Brad Friedel in the studio on the BBC is surprisingly good, would be nice to see a bit more of him.

I would be interested in how the Suarez thing is being dealt with overseas. Uruguay are already playing the card that it's the British media out to get him (we will probably hear we are racist for it soon enough), and that the problem was all Italy's fault!

The guy clearly has a psychological problem, he really needs help to learn to control himself.

I was astounded when they made this claim.

So we've learnt that the phrase 'British media' is apparently the touchstone in international football circles for uniting them in one voice and sending collective shudders of hatred and despisement towards us.

You just KNOW it's because we're the most prominent country with the balls and gumption to send investigative reporters uncovering FIFA's dirty corrupt little deals, and sleazy secrets, and money-laundering cliques.

Perhaps the Uruguayans, knowing full well that FIFA today/tomorrow will have to judge and give a verdict on what Suarez did, are saying this as a very clever and devious and machiavellian cunning plan! By intrinsically linking the two, then, if FIFA give Suarez the maximum ban, it paints them as tacitly supporting the British media.

I await with interest what sanction they will give him.

^ Yeah, I think this one will bubble on for a quite a bit - don't expect the Uruguayans to take this lying down!

It is a very unusual thing with FIFA, normally I would think the UK are the dodgy ones fucking over the world. But with FIFA, Blatter is using the periphery and semi-periphery for their own means, not allowing any amount of reform to happen. Every time people speak out Blatter leads the world in cries of racism, despite the fact that its FIFA and their exec stealing money from everywhere.

It is just as well that the Brazilian public has energized the world in anti-FIFA stuff! Not that I see reform forthcoming.

I entertained the thought that the U of USA got dropped, but that would still make it wrong.

You will be in for a lot of fun, France are doing great! They should get through the next round and then they either get Germany or Algeria - both of which would be fun games!

I agree Russia were terrible, didn't deserve to go through.
Won't know what to do with myself tomorrow with it being a rest day. What am I supposed to plan my day around now!

Russia were awful at this WC, glad they have gone out - Capello just plays horrible horrible football.

Glad one African side made it through!

    Next round matches

    Brazil v Chile
    Uruguay v Colombia
    France v Nigeria
    Germany v Algeria
    Netherlands v Mexico
    Costa Rica v Greece
    Argentina v Switzerland
    Belgium v USA

    Predictions?
    Bolded.

We'll see how many I've got right. If I had to choose a likely upset I'd say Mexico beating Netherlands.

Oh and much as I think it's impossible I WISH Chile would beat Brazil. I don't like Brazil, never have.

Obviously I should be supporting the French team (I do check the score when they are playing), but wouldn't it be nice if the USA won.

Mine in bold. If Chile take Brazil, I reckon the bookies are going to start getting nervous.

I certainly hope Mexico don't upset my beloved Oranje... winner gets (probably) Costa Rica in the quarters, and either way that should be a cracker.

This has been a brilliant tournament so far.
