A-ha, getting a snake doesn't work. You buy a snake born in captivity and they're fed frozen-thawed because it's easier to make sure said rodents don't have fleas, transport mites, et cetera. Ergo, the snakes tend to be afraid of live prey - tends to freak 'em out when food moves. You should've seen ours dance - I'd swear the bugger gave us looks of panic after he fled in the other direction the one and only time we tried live prey. Now we just kill 'em when we get home and shove 'em in the freezer.

Well, tried live mice. Pinkies that couldn't move were fine - anything else, not a chance. And pinkies aren't particularly nutritious to grown snakes. Tried to switch his diet up with crickets and he didn't understand what they were for.

....although he knows damn well who feeds him. Tapped on the glass twice yesterday and opened his lid (which is his routine when I feed him, I thought he was asleep and didn't want to scare his ass by dropping a mouse on his head) and the little shit zoomed straight up his tank and popped his head out and periscoped. Apparently he didn't appreciate my ass being three days late. (K had to pick up more mice, we were out) He didn't bite, he just knew I had the damn mice. I had to shoo his ass back in and drop dinner in after him.

On the other hand, there's a field mouse living in our kitchen that I can't seem to catch, been totally ignoring the mouse trap.

I owned several snakes years ago. We had A Burmese Python, Red tail boas, Common Boas, and a Emerald Tree Boa.........I started them all on fresh kill mice (I drowned them) and moved up to live rats, Home raised. None were ever skittish about hunting and devouring their prey.

If you catch a wild snake, like a garter snake, you can keep it in a covered fish tank in your home for a week or so, it's presence will more than likely rid the place of mice. It doesn't have to go after the mice, just being there will encourage the mice to go elsewhere.

There are places you can get snakes that were raised on live prey along with dead -- obviously not the typical pet store, though.

    Try beer for bait.

what's attracting them? Do you know where their entering from? I get a mouse once in a while, usually fall, but I just put out some poison, they eat it and go die.........but I'd be pissed if more kept coming.
