That means I am not wearing turtlenecks anymore, and not because of Hark!'s comments but because I am fed up with not finding, by default, anywhere, the designs I want to pay for, and not even being allowed the opportunity to either have them made or make them myself

As for carey's pics, why the hell are they still designing the same crap I would see on magazines thirty years ago?

So many of these look like how 80's movies depicted people in the future would dress. Or, like someone cosplaying BBC Sherlock.

No, it's worse: as I said, that is exactly the conception of fashion in the 1980s for the 1980s... at least as I knew it in Catalonia from what I saw on magazines, movies and TV shows back then... pre-Olympic Barcelona.

^ ^^What I hate about that sort of designs is that they look like poor man's versions of themselves: a good, sophisticated idea developed mid-way, to rush to an evident, coarse design for the undiscerning masses... the wealthier ones.

If those overcoats you post were not part of a general outfit, you'd probably consider them as dull in themselves as they actually are

Only few designers know how to style correctly imo that you want to wear the look from head to toe. Like Dolce & Gabbana, their tragedy is that they make the most beautiful coats and shirts but always pair them with the most boring dress pants and shoes and also other added accessories cluttering the look.

A piece of clothing is an ensemble itself: if you treat it as such, and do not judge it only by its nice colour, its sleeves or whatever, or you find it rather dull piece by piece, but acceptable overall, you are not appreciating the craft and design but a trick of the designer to make it pass for what it's not: it is different if crappy pieces taken isolated depend on each other to build up something fine, but what I just referred to in response to your post was not a material design, but an effect, an impression, which is a different thing because it does not refer to the item itself, but to a general concept you have in mind.

I am talking about accuracy: crappy is acceptable, again, as long as it is a means to building up something finer, like Callas' voice being fugly but being used in a way to produce something finer, or Velázquez's blurry strokes which make sense by looking totally different from afar: I am talking about giving a new sense and use to whatever, fugly or fine in itself, and that is art, and not just adding one thing after the other, and putting things together rather slovenly, like putting too much salt in a chowder, and then disguising it up and make up for it by adjusting the taste.

As with the case of the pullower, this is always in the context of the "dull" fashion available, not of what is ideal per se, at most what gives an idea of into what that design should have been developed: only the coat and, again, not as can be seen there, but as a draft to develop into the right design... the outfit is awful... jeans are not eternal, they are getting dated and will not be a staple item for the next decades; I hate, hate, hate, truly hate black gloves; the books are wrong, so the hairdo, and the glasses are too big and rounded... even for a girl.

Belamo what do you think about this?

This is the closest thing I've found to what I want to see at least once on the red carpet (or the entire society/world). Why can't they ever hold a fancy ball (because this would have to be a fantasy because the status quo isn't going to change) where all the women are in suits and all the men in the most outrageous/sexy dresses.

I would like to see a movie sort of like Beyoncé's 'If I were a boy' video where a woman dreams about the gender roles being reversed and this one about fashion. In the picture below the girl (which is actually a boy - Andrej Pejić) is still not conservatively dressed for me and the boy is too thin. I want a macho drop dead sexy tall tanned muscular man and in a dress that accentuates the male form.

It has too look more real, not a travesti of something established: fashion is only an extension of the social situation of men, women and of classes in a given period, which in its turn is but a consequence of economical and political foundations of that given era... bloomers were not for the mid-XIXth century, no matter how hard tried Amelia, and the reform dress movement did not really make sense until WWI and all the political consequences brought with themselves the flapper fashion that is at the very foundation of today's female fashion.
Since that was not done for male fashion, which had undergone some minimal changes BEFORE that period, and the reform basically consisted in dispensing with minor accessories like the stiff collar, or reducing the mandatory different sort of suits for a single day (that is why today the formal dress for weddings is called morning suit), what we are dealing with after a whole century is basically, literally, a fossile.

    Re: An outfit a day.

Female fashion has not merely adapted what was traditionally male clothing, it has appropriated it: now virtually anything is supposed to suit females, not because it actually fits female bodies, but because there is a social conviction that it is appropriate and "feminine", while mere good coats and white shirts are not for males anymore, and we are supposed to make do with stupid sports jacket for racing and the like, and with checkered plaid shirts...

So this could be perfectly female, and they are supposed to look "effeminate", not for the hair or attitude, or even the way they wear it, but for merely wearing it, because the manly way of wearing that is looking as if they were not wearing those clothes, but merely covering the bodies Attachment 1050076

if a man wears what is accepted as male fashion, but does not use it merely for HIDING his body for the neck down, he is considered feminine, and those wanting to go against that established rule, like the above posted, do it in a silly "revolutionary" way that passes for "feminine": that is why I said in my previous post that what must be done is to rethink and redefine male shape and fashion as was done with female over ninety years ago.
